Day 111:

I'll do 4 month FTS's tomorrow because I'm being super lazy / tired tonight...

I came home to find my shrimp & Goby had re-landscaped the entire sand bed... it looks kinda cool what they've done though, mostly from the top down. You can't see it as well from the front or side...

Turned off the 240gps this evening, I'll see how that impacts my reef tomorrow. I also removed the plug from the green ricordia and glued it down :) Going to begin gluing them all down so eventually I can pull rocks out without any trouble and just have everything attached!

4 Months - Day 112

Can't believe I've made it this far. It's been a fairly costly hobby, that's all I can say hahaha... Couldn't have done it without the help & suggestions from everyone on here so thank you all!

As you can see above, I no longer have a purple frogspawn in here :( RIP.

I've had my 240gph off for over 24 hours. When I came home I noted absolutely NO improvement to the hammer, but everything else looked the same. The Clownfish were a bit more adventurous I do have to say, they came closer to the right side of the tank more often. I've turned the power-head back on however re-positioned closer to the front of the display, with it aimed towards the back upper glass. Hopefully this makes a little bit less flow which I think the hammer may want.

These guys causing trouble, they've re-landscaped my sand-bed. They haven't done this in over a month haha..

As you can see above, they pushed my hammer over. I've since corrected it.

Lastly, one of my favorite shots from this evening.. my first photo which captures both of my pairs at once:

I think it just adjusted to change but I'd remove the we by stuff and the feather duster for irritation reasons

hate to hear about the frogspawn, your doing amazingly well for just getting a tank going tho, most death tolls are much more extensive

You really aught to permanently attach the hammer down to something, it getting knocked around and moved cant be good

He moves it like once a month :( I really like it in the sand there though, I don't have any other spots, not on rocks or anything .. No room. Time to upgrade hahah just kidding I'm too broke hahaha

Thanks for your comment my friend!

Keep an eye on this thread, buying a cheap multimeter is a must have piece of equipment in my opinion. http://www.reef2reef.com/forums/general-lps-discussion/166154-torch-hammers-loosing-heads-anybody.html

I've read some stuff regarding stray voltage getting into the water. I have a digital thermometer, powerhead, pump, and the fully subrmergable heater currenly running all at once. I don't feel any "shock" when I put my hand in the water, but it might be minute. Was thinking of picking up a grounding prong, they're only like $10 and it couldn't hurt to have one in my stock.

Might do that and see. Perhaps the hammer will open up more again with that. It hasn't changed much lately.

Our outside temp went from 30*C down to 15*C yesterday :( Tank temp went from 78*F to 73*F throughout the day... it's back to normal now thankfull. This is my second heater and it seems like a piece of crap too.. can't keep up with heating even 5 gallons when the temps go down quickly outside.. It's a 50watt too... Maybe I need a 75 watt haha

I'd look into getting a RKL, with a controller you can better trust that your temp is going to stay stable, I think swings like that could be a big source of stress

I'd love to get a controller eventually, but I'm still on a tight spending budget haha.. $120 is too much :( BUT - Definitely something for the future. I plan to enjoy this hobby for a long time! Eventually when I own my own home I'd like to setup a bigger - custom tank! (Someday, haha)

Anyways ~ I was draining my water today planning to do a 20-30% WC. Ended up going downstairs and family began talking to me and I completely forgot. Come back upstairs and find I've drained about 40% of the water and the pitcher over-flowed, water everywhere. Now I've got a fan heater running on the carpet to help dry it up but looks like I'm doing a really good WC today hahaha...

Very very upset today, and don't know what to do. I hope someone can help / provide some suggestions..

When the light came on my tank today I went to take a look as usual and noticed this on both of my clownfish....

:( What is this? Looks almost like ich from what I've read BUT it seems VERY "fluffy" and moves around with their bodies. These spots look almost IDENTICAL to that "growth/ mass" of tissue that was on my one clowns fish a few weeks ago. They're swimming fine, eating normally, however are breathing a bit heavier than normal it seems.

I haven't introduced or added anything new to my tank in about 3 weeks. I've been feeding like regular pellets and they've also been eating the Goby's mysis recently. I did just start a new cube of mysis this past week, but I've never had troubles with mysis. This is the only thing I can think of..

Goby / Shrimp / Crab all appear completely fine without any signs of this.

Anybody have any ideas? :(

I'd get a quarantine tank ready and take them out, you won't want the goby to get whatever that is. Hopefully someone tells you what it is so you can get something to fix it.

Don't have a qt tank :( would cost me another $500 to get a spec III setup with everything :(

A QT tank wouldn't be exapensive. Just get a 10 gallon, mix some salt, and get a cheap filter throw them in after a few days. Or use some water change water when making water. You don't want your goby to get it either.

:(

All LFS is closed now - and I work all day tomorrow and rest of the week it's nearly impossible to setup a QT.. I'm not sure :(

If all the Ich is currently on the 2 clowns - if I pulled the clowns out in lets say 2 days for me to get a QT setup, would this be a good chance to help take all of the parasite out of my reef? Should I follow up with a good WC after they are pulled out from the tank? I don't want my Goby/ Shrimp to catch it.

I'm thinking I could setup a 2 Gallon Spec V - (Use water from the tank now)

25Watt heater - stock pump - no sand and nothing else.

Would cost me under $100 probably.

That happened to me just two weeks after I got the pair of clowns from Petco. Just grab a $15 10g at petsmart or wal-mart, a heater, and a cheap AC30/AC50 filter and you're good to go, use media/rock from your tank to help with the cycling, just take them over right away but prepare to do WC if ammonia go up. Then I did a hypo salinity treatment to cure my two clowns of ich for 8 weeks and now they're healthy and my tank is ich free forever because I left it fishless for 8 weeks, from then on I QT everything from corals to invert before I put them in my tank. If this ich, it will effect all the fishes in your tank so you would need to QT all of them in order to get rid of it completely, if you don't, once you put the two clowns back, they'll get it again.
