So I have decided to setup an aquarium at my workplace.

This tank's purpose is to be flashy and fun. Many fellow employees do not have experience in the saltwater 'game' so I want to show them how amazing the hobby can be.

I will be filling the tank with soft corals and critters that are fun to watch.

I am looking into getting a stronger light source for this tank. The tank is 13 x 13 x 14 inches.

I was interested in getting a PAR38 but im not sure which to buy based on how strong the light would be over this 8 gallon.

If anyone could give me advice on what I should get it would be most appreciated.

I like these little tanks. I have the two gallon tank myself and I agree, you really need more light for some corals. I was thinking about a par 38 bulb for my new Mr. Aqua build, but I couldn't see hanging it from the ceiling so I got the Hydra Aquatics Retina 1 LED instead.

Enjoy.

If you still plan on adding sexy shrimp at some point, be sure to spot feed them to keep them full or they might nibble on your future Xenia (some may consider this a good thing though :rolleyes: )

Cool tank, but I don't know that you will be happy with that color for the DIY LED build. Seems kinda like your are trying to force the full spectrum thing and I doubt it will end up like planned. I could be wrong, but the best LED displays I have seen don't have a mix anywhere near that.

Yea, I have been told that this will be too many LEDs and that I should slim down to the following:

3 NW

6 RB

2 TV

1 OCW

With that combo though I am not sure how to place them on my heatsink.

I revised my setup. What do you think?

TV = True Violet

NW = Neutral White

OCW = Ocean Coral White

RB = Royal Blue

ML = Moonlights
