  2. I have a clarification question regarding my alkalinity test. I have a Red Sea testing kit. I included a picture of the instructions and the reference page. The instructions say to add one drop of the KH indicator to obtain the “start” color. What’s confusing me is that my “start” color is a much lighter blue than the color they show. Should I add multiple drops to obtain the same color they show, and then start counting my drops? Or should I start counting drops right after my first drop, even though my start color is so light? Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated! I imagine this will be an easy question to answer for someone with experience 🙂
  3. After Marinepure was confirmed to release Aluminum by Ryan at BRS I decided to put Seachem's Matrix to the test. There's tons of great reviews out there that claim Nitrates dropped in less than a week at times. While I don't think this will be the case I decided to run my own experiment. The tank will run with no additives, just top off water. No filtration, only a heater to keep the tank at 80 degree. (The warmer temp helps breed bacteria) I originally planned on adding two small clowns to keep a constant flow of ammonia (and I might later) but I feel the nitrite is too high. This isnt a real enough experiment to risk any little guys. ___________ Tank background The tank ran as a temporary holding tank while I was moving my fish around. In that time the Ammonia skyrocketed and the fish were pulled out. Since then it has just been cycling for almost two months. The tank has two MP40's to ensure flow and proper gas exchange. Seachem recommends two liters per 200 gallons. I will be running 20 liters inside media bags. the tank has roughly 100 gallons of water in it. http://www.seachem.com/pond-matrix.php Ammonia 0 Nitrite >1 Nitrate >50 (Red Sea) If anyone has any input or ideas I would love to hear it! It's temping to add a carbon source to feed the bacteria.
  4. Hello, Just recently set up my first attempt at a reef tank. I'm currently on day 3 after adding my water, running Chemi Pure Elite, Purigen and Filter Floss on one side and a stock Filter Sock on the other. I'm trying to understand my tests results from my Red Sea test kit. Help appreciated. I'm not wanting to rush my cycle, only to get educated as to where I'm at and as to why my levels are how they are. Here are quite a few images, all photos were taken on an iPhone 7 so excuse the quality. The reason I've added multiple photos of my nitrate test is because it has stumped me, I didn't expect it to show as it does, and I'm worried if it's too high(?) Like I said. Just wanting advice and to be educated as to where I could be in the cycle. Thanks for reading. A few photos of my tank. No lighting yet. Nanobox Duo Plus M to be coming in a few weeks.
