  1. TJ's Bust'em Up [and go] Custom Reef! Welcome to my build thread! Well, rebuild thread I suppose... or maybe upgrade thread? The Details: This thread is going to follow me taking my very new reef, and completely redo the guts of the aquarium. This will include the sump, plumbing, skimmer, fuge/frag lighting, etc. and I am going to go custom with all of it! Or nearly all of it. The sump is being built by Pro Clear Aquatics, the light by Dave @ Nano Box Reef, and I am going to use colored plumbing to match it all up and take the vanity side of this build to the next level. The Livestock: As with all of my builds, I am planning to go primarily with colorful sticks and clams. I really can't help myself... I just can't reef any other way and feel satisfied. The tank was originally set up with LPS and Softies to keep things simple and look full as fast as possible for a video shoot. With that concluded, I am moving over to sticks ASAP! As you read on through this thread you'll see I've already begun to move out softies and bring in SPS. Nothing too fancy just yet, but as things settle in I will get my hands on some more impressive pieces. I am not necessarily going to be chasing down "designer corals" because they tend to be heinously over priced, but rather just focus on getting some nice colors from the LFS or trade with other hobbyists for nice frags. For fish, the tank is currently home to a pair of Percula Clowns, Starry Blenny, and a [likely cyanide caught] Convict Tang. Details on the system can be seen in the original post below. ------------------------------ Original Post Below ------------------------------ Alright folks, I'm just going to leave this thread here... Lots to do before I start really posting about what is happening, but lets just say I have a new reef, its already set up, but I think I am going all out custom for the sump / plumbing etc. and will kick off the thread once everything arrives! And yes, I will probably go crazy with sticks like I did last time. This time I will hopefully avoid any mass die offs caused by acro specific viruses that can not be controlled... Sad times. THE FUN BEGINS IN 10, 9, 8... About the tank: European tank, low iron glass, holes drilled at the top of the rear panel, utilizes XAQUA INOUT overflow system, grey stand with removable front panel for a ton of access. Dimensions are 70 x 50 x 50 cm (roughly 27" x 20" x 20") About the scape: I used CaribSea Life Rock to give the corals something to grow on. Mix of the standard boulders and the branches paired with a bit of smashing, stacking, and putty eventually lead me to this scape. How far along is the build? So this reef was hastily assembled for a video shoot (not for a build series, but rather for a commercial of sorts to introduce a new product/line from a well known company) and was never intended to hang around. Once I got it up and running with corals and a few fish, my daughter became quite drawn to it, and my wife doesn't hate it, so I figured it should stay. Of course, I should have known that the second I set up a reef I'd be bitten by the bug... What are the plans? I am planning to change up most of the corals and go heavy on the SPS, but more importantly, I want to completely redo the guts of the system. I slapped this together with great equipment, sure, but I want to go custom and really make the system my own. I have already gotten in touch with Pro-Clear aquatics who have ordered my custom acrylic and will be building a sump for me based on a modified design I sent them yesterday (23/02/2017) and I will be getting some pretty plumbing to really turn this system into a hot rod (no flames though...) So, if you stick around, this thing should get pretty interesting relatively quickly! I assume the sump will be at my place in a few weeks, and that is when we can really kick things off!!!

    MJ's 75 Gallon Fallout Shelter

This is the upgrade of the prior 29g acrylic. The tank was upgraded in May 2018 after a move. Unfortunately, there were some losses in the move and again when the house's AC was offline for a week due to renovation. However, the tank has made a solid comeback. SHOW ME YOUR T5 REEF

If you have a reef lit with T5's, post up a picture please! Also, please include the brand fixture you are using and favorite bulb combo! Also, if you are supplementing with LED's or MH's post that too! Thanks!
  5. I have an Aquaticlife 30" light fixture for sale. ( 29 1/2" long x 9 1/2 deep) It is actually two separate, 2 bulb fixtures attached as one large fixture for a total of 4 bulbs. Each fixture has its own on/off switch. I have the legs for rim mount and the hanging wires. Bulbs are 24" standard size which are actually 22.5" long. The fixtures can be separated with minimal work but I am selling them as one unit. Make me an offer......you pay shipping.
  6. Getting out of hobby sale, 20 years worth of equipment to go!!! Primary need is a good home for my 29 gallon FOWLR setup that is up and running but has been fishless for 9 months. Complete tank with Coralife Super Skimmer 65, Ehiem heaters, overflow, Aqua Medic Oceanruner 2500 primary return pump and two sumps. One of the sumps is custom built to fit the stand and includes a protein skimmer section and refugium section for growing macro. It is currently not setup and could be sold separately. The other sump is connected to the tank and is a bio-ball compatible sump for a 120 gallon tank. The tank currently has a dual bulb T5HO setup over it with ATI bulbs, roughly 15 months old but the unit is functional. I'd estimate 40 lbs of live rock between the display tank and the sump. This is pest free rock and sand that was hand picked from my 75 gallon tank when I down sized. I also have a 150 Watt MH setup I may list separately, along with a digital PH meter. At this point, make an offer and its yours!!!
  7. LOCAL PICKUP ONLY PLEASE, in SWFL, NOT SHIPPING! Used DIY hybrid reef light, made of a 6 bulb Tek T5ho fixture, and replaced two bulbs with a current orbit marine LED light (~36w). The bulbs are 39w, 2 x ATI blue plus, an aquablue special, and giesemann super actinic. This is a really great blend of color with the LEDs and has produced awesome coral growth and colors. The LED is controlled with the current ramp pro timer, can mimic sunrise and sunset. The T5 can be put on timers to come on in pairs of two in between. Really great feature for only $225! The bulbs still have 6 months of life left in them, I just moved and downsized tanks. The light was mounted about 14" above my fish tank, no splash guard, has a little surface rust, but it is a sound fixture. Please email above or call/text 850-570-1423. Images are of MY coral grown under this light, including SPS, crocea clam, anemone. All flourished! Two used 36" LED light strips. One unknown brand actinic only, quality reflector, so might be ecoexotic or reef tech. The other is a dimmable BML (Build my LED) full spectrum light with splash guard/diffuser. Both come with power supplies. I bought them used a year ago but never got around to using them, now i moved and downsized my aquarium. These would be great supplementation to a T5 fish tank light, or can grow coral in a shallow enough tank (<20"). Selling BOTH INCLUDED with the hybrid fixture. Please PM or call/text 850-570-1423. Thank you.
  8. ATI SunPower: PAR Values, Color Combos, and LED Comparison Watch and win an ATI SunPower T5HO Light + Bulbs—a $672.89 value!
  9. Hi, I know the technical specs and differences from one and the other and LEDs are the future for sure, but I've been told that T5HOs are better to grow and propagate corals than a comparable LED fixture. Can someone tell me the why?
