  1. Hello, NR! It has been quite sometime since my last build. I've spent quite the time out of the hobby and have been itching to get back into everything. Over the last month I've spent some significant time on Craigslist looking for deals on AIO tanks. With my past experience, I knew that when one person wants back in the hobby, another one wants out😂. I knew I wanted something small since time and space is more limited on my end - and with AIO tank options coming a long way since my last biocube 14g, I knew my options were vast. Also, with this build - I wanted to make sure I stayed within a reasonable budget. On my second week of searching I came across a Fluval Spec III 2.6g (2018 version) being sold for $45 locally. I knew this was the one I've been looking for. It was an AIO, perfect size, local to me and on top of that - BRAND NEW. From the old tanks in my past, I managed to save old rock and sand. I am going about the bleach bath method to get them all crisp clean and white again. I ordered all the essential items and got them ready for the tank set up. Last night I had some free time to fill up the tank with some RO water to test fill. Everything went well and all parts seem to be in functioning order. I mixed my salt and poured it back in to get the pump and heater up and running. The stock pump seems to be pretty weak for the whole tank so I ordered another mini pump from amazon. As far as it goes, I am only running the heater, pump and occasional light while I am working on the tank. I plan on adding a small piece of Live rock I got from the LFS a few days ago in the tank tonight to kick start some cycling. Over the past few days I've kept the rock in a small container with an air pump to preserve any life still living. I turned that pump off this morning and plan to come home to some stagnant water. I am hoping that this will be enough die off for an ammonia spike to kick off my cycle. Almost 10 years and a lot has changed in the hobby and the husbandry, any recommendations or suggestions are highly encouraged. I need all the help I can get with this new tank!
  2. Hello! Long time, no post.  I've downsized my Nuvo10, which I probably never posted about, to a 2.5 gallon pico tank. It's well established and hasn't had anything real exciting in it due to a move, just a nice little condo for my inverts for the past year, plus two ugly shrooms that survive with the beta light, and a giant aptasia that I just eradicated this week (RIP) to prepare to add some corals and nems I actually like.  I think the tank is about 8x8x8. It is a cheap Top Fin Retreat from PetSmart. I kept the sand from my old Nuvo10 setup and also a tiny bit of liverock from that as well. I should have my Kessil A80 here this Friday, and hope it fits. I have a fluval heater in the back sump area and occasionally use the carbon filter inserts made for the tank. I am going to "upgrade" the pump to the tiny Tunze, but not today because I haven't measured to see if it will fit. The stock pump doesn't move quite enough water and it's a little loud. It also connects to a branched cord so the light and pump are all on one AC plug, which is a nice feature for the little tank, but won't meet my needs when I put the new light on. I have no algae or other issues in the little tank. I've had 7 and 10 gallon setups, but never anything this small. I love how easy the water changes are and the simplicity, or non-existence, of my equipment. I am looking for recommendations of inhabitants, such as nems and corals. I don't want to do any dosing, but do like sps corals, though I've never had any. Are they even possible in this type of setup? I love shrooms also and don't know if the lighting will work to support both, due to the small size of the tank. I will only be stocking super BA specimens, and obviously am in no hurry, but will keep this thread updated as I make changes.  11 January 2018: Upgraded to Kessil A80 light  19 May 2018: Upgraded tank to Fluval Spec III  28 May 2018: Added Kessil Spectral Controller  30 May 2018: Added Inkbird Temperature Controller  09 June 2018: Added IM Hydrofill ATO system  Setup: TopFin 2.5 Gallon Retreat Fluval Spec III Aqueon 25w submersible heater Kessil A80 Tuna Blue light Kessil Spectral Controller Inkbird Temperature Controller IM Nuvo 10 Pump (92gph) to replace stock pump InTank Media Basket InTank Clip On Surface Skimmer on intake IM Hydrofill ATO setup Homemade Surface Skimmer Intake Mod Upgrading to a tiny Tunze pump as soon as I shave off part of the housing of it to fit in the back of the tank.  Current critters: 2x 3x Sexy Shrimp 1x Pom Pom Crab 2x Nassarius Snails 2x 1x 0x 3x Blue Leg Hermit Crabs (one regular, one little blue leg) Blue leg is missing/assumed deceased. 3. So I picked up an Evo 5 while I was out picking up a spec III for my girlfriend this weekend. This is my first attempt at saltwater and a reef so bare with me. I am already in the progress of putting together a 40g breeder as well but I haven't gotten around to cutting the bean animal overflow yet. But back to the Evo, I created this thread to track my progress and share my experiences. Any ideas, suggestions or comments are extremely welcome. I am currently going to run the evo stock until I see that upgrades are necessary for what I am wanting. TripleTrouble New Spec V

Hi all - new to the forum. Have experience with fresh and brackish, but this is my first salt/reef tank. This is my first post since setting up my tank. Welcome any feedback. Tank set up on 3/10/17: Fluval Spec V Stock Filter, Light and Pump Coral 25 watt heater CaribSea live sand 4.5 lbs of live rock Salinity: 1.023 [No other testing done. Plan to bring water to my local shop on Friday to test levels and pick up my test kit so I can do more at home] Added Dr Tims: One and Only when first put in H20 Likely upgrades: Aq600 and/or Hydor 180 Light (eventually) maybe T5. Haven't explored much yet. Haven't committed but thinking of adding GSP + Zoa to start and a few inverts. Then one or two swimmers. Think rock formation may be a bit much for size tank. I like the layout but may remove some once things stabilize and I add livestock. (Got one one feather duster that hitchhiked.) Let me know what you think! Thanks!
