    RODI System

Hello all! I will just be straight up and honest here, my saltwater tank uses tap water. now now, no need to yell at me, I know this isnt great, and now relize all the benifits of an RODI system, but I also realize the parts that arent so appealing. I am deffinitly investing in one, but what I really hate is the waste water, I know it has to have some way to get rid of the bad parts, but I am just concerned about how much water I would be wasting with one of these systems. assuming you guys are able to talk me into it, I a still not gonna buy like a 1k system, or even anything close, so here are a couple I was thinking of, what are the pros/cons of these systems in your mind? my first choice: https://www.bulkreefsupply.com/4-stage-value-ro-di-system-bulk-reef-supply.html My second choice, it is a little buit cheaper but I dont know what I would be sacrificing in quality: https://www.amazon.com/LiquaGen-5-Stage-Reverse-Osmosis-Deionization/dp/B01FNAPGPA/ref=sr_1_6?dchild=1&keywords=rodi+system&qid=1597765745&sr=8-6

    High nitrates after water change?

Hey guys, I tested my water today after doing a water change and I see my nitrate levels are at 180??? im so nervous because that’s obviously really deadly and I don’t want anything to happen to my fish or inverts! some notable things I’ve done recently : I’ve been adding microbacteria in a bottle daily to establish my biological filtration, and my cycle is finally done. I did a water change with genuine seawater that I purchased from my lfs and some rodi water. And I added some new crabs the other day. can anyone tell me if I’m doing something wrong? I do weekly water changes of 4-6 gallons in a 36 gallon tank.

    Noob RO/DI questions

I'm thinking of getting a RO/DI unit, probably this one: http://spectrapure.com/Refurbished-90-GPD-RODI-System I just have a couple silly questions: I live in an apartment and don't really want to mount it permanently anywhere. In my research it seems many people hook them up to the laundry line but I don't have that option. It says that this unit includes an adapter, does that mean I can just hook it up to the bathroom faucet and run the waste line into the tub or something? Also does it need to constantly be hooked up or can I hook it up to the sink, make water, then take it down and store it until the next week as long as the membrane stays wet? Thank you for any feedback, I'm completely lost with RO/DI units!

Transitioning from tap to rodi water

hi, Im transitioning over from tap water to rodi water because I've heard that it's much better. but I need help because I've also read that I have to buy minerals to add to it. is that only in special occasions like for specific fish, or do I need to buy it ? let me know if I need to list my tank details or something. it's a fowlr soon to be reef. additional although unimportant question: how do you guys say rodi? is it (r o d i) like letter per letter, or is it okay to say (rowdee) like row, row, row your boat.?

    Bought a RO/DI & ATO

https://www.amazon.com/Tunze-USA-3152-000-Automatic-Osmolator/dp/B00AR1A7ZU/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1523568226&sr=8-3-fkmr0&keywords=auto+top+off+saltwal https://www.amazon.com/LiquaGen-5-Stage-Reverse-Osmosis-Deionization/dp/B01FNAPGPA/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1523568372&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=liquagen&psc=1 Recently bought these 2 items off amazon for my 40G Nuvo, wondering if they were a good buy. The ATO seemed like a solid buy but im kinda iffy on the RO/DI filter.

Smart ATO Micro worth the cash!?

Is the Smart ATO micro worth 175$ CAD? I'm running a nuvo 10 and i'm finding it very hard to fit another ato.. so i found this one, i read great reviews, but i wanted to know if anyone here can share their experience with me. this will be my first Ato, is it hard to use? Does it make a lot of noise? (My tank is right next to my bed) and is it worth getting for the long run? thanks again

  12. I have been getting RODI and mix from my LFS for the past 7 or so years. It's always been great water, but I took the hood off of my JBJ 28g nano and put in an AI LED over the edge light, and now the evaporation is through the roof. I can't be going to the LFS every week, so I decided to start making my own RODI water, but I might as well make my own mix too. I also will be installing an ATO system, with the bucket under the stand to keep the levels from swinging so dramatically. Before I ask any questions on RO/DI, I have been searching the threads and trying to educate myself. I want to see if I have understood what I have read. I purchased the 5 stage double DI 90gpd spectrapure system. It has one TDS meter and it seems to be in front of the Particulate filters (straight tap) and after the RO, (before DI stage) I am getting about 195 in and 4 out. The RO is expected to reject 98% of TDS and the DI filters the rest. So in order to get the final TDS reading, I need another one the "Product" side, but it seems that most people suggest a hand held unit for product water. I'm not that particular but what are your thoughts on product TDS meters? I am getting 60PSI out of the tap, so when that starts to drop, that is the indication that particulate filters need to be changed. When the calculated RO number drops, it is an indication of RO membrane replacement. When TDS at the product rises, then the DI filters need to be changed. There is a flush kit that can be added to the system that will flush the RO membrane and extend it's life, but I don't understand why that wouldn't be standard. I am considering that, what is your thought on the flush kit? RO is good for drinking water, but not RO/DI, so you can put in a splitter at the post RO stage to collect drinking water. I am trying to decide if I want to mount the system under the kitchen sink and add a tank for drinking water, or in the garage dedicated to Nano Reefing. There is a faucet in the garage that I can hook up directly to the system, just need to run the waste out the wall into the garden. I'm just dragging it out in the back yard, hooking it up for a few hours to fill a jug, and then putting it in the shed when I am done. Do many of you setup in the kitchen? I didn't ask a lot of questions, but if you see anything that I didn't understand, I would be happy to get input. Thanks! Shurley
