    Jack's 2g Pico Reboot

After 8 years sitting in the attic, I broke out my old 2g pico to use as a QT for my 50g and enjoyed it sitting on my desk to much, I decided to set it back up as a reef! Since I'm using rock that's been sitting in my sump for the last two years, it's already fully cycled and ready to go. Equipment: Tank: 2g Aqueon Evolve (9x9x10) Lighting: ReefBreeders Pico LED v2023 Flow: 98gpm return Temperature: Tetra 25w Fixed Temperature Initial FTS 3/20/2023:
  3. Intro: Thanks for taking a look at my tank journal. I've been reefing since 2009; not a novice but far from knowing everything. I've always loved the simplicity of all in one tanks and my very first tank was a 29 gallon Biocube. I've had a few tanks between this Innovative Marine SR60 and my first Biocube but the contents of this tank came from my last 29 gallon Biocube I had set up for about 3 years. I added some cured liverock and moved the contents of that tank to this one in November of 2018. My goal is to incorporate all types of coral into a diverse, mixed reef and place a large emphasis on fish that are both beautiful but also serve a purpose in a peaceful community tank. My three daughters have some input as to what goes in the tank and while I don't always agree with their selections, I have been pleasantly surprised on more than one occasion (Valentini Puffer...Yasha Goby, just to name a couple). This is a family tank and something that we enjoy discussing, admiring and feeding every night before bed time. Update October 2021: In early 2020, I had a horrible Dinoflagellates outbreak. My pursuit of pristine water conditions created the perfect envornment for the Dinos to take over. A lot of my corals were suffocated and fish died during the ourbreak. After finally beating the Dinos back, I almost shut the tank down but ultimately just sort of walked away and let it recover. I did minimal maintenance and didn't add a thing for 20+ months. I had completely lost my passion for Reefkeeping. My youngest daughter who is 3 now loves fish and her interest in this tank brought me back. 4. Has anyone tried the ReefBreeders Pico light models? I'm interested in the full spectrum, mostly. Secondly, the "saltwater" model. The saltwater model with one violet and four blue LEDs is probably too blue spectrum for my tastes. But I'm not sure about the full spectrum light having enough blue spectrum for corals. I'm looking for a quality, but affordable, small light for a pico. I'm hoping to grow Leptastrea only, since real estate is limited in a pico and I like encrusting corals. Maybe plus an easy softy but I'd like to make this a tiny species tank. What information is available for Leptastrea puts it as happiest in low-med lighting. This LED might fit the bill? I have found little in terms of reviews from people who have actually used these lights to grow things. For reference, my tank is tiny: it's ~1.6 gallons (closer to 1.3-1.4 with sand and rock I think), 9x6x6" cube. So I shouldn't need a big light to be sufficient for the water volume.
  5. The Aqamai I've had for about 4 or 5 months so far doesn't seem to be the best fit for my tank, I love the customizability but the flow is too intense and too-narrow for my tank, it also has an excessive min and max GPH for my setup, I'm really interested in trying out the re-branded coralbox RN-1 (Reefbreeder RP-M) as the less-intense, wider-flow pattern sounds perfect.
  6. So, I acquired this light through a trade. Prior to this light, I've never had something so adjustable, user customizable or powerful. Quiet frankly, it scares me a bit. It has a setting for lps and sps. My concern is, I've never ran a tank that simulates real sunlight or a sunlight schedule. Ive always ran my reefs with 6-8 hours of light. Now with nearly 13 hours of light. I'm concerned about nusance algae issues. Also, I've cut all the settings by 60-70% for acclimation.
