Ok so I'm setting up my first reef tank, it's going to be mostly corals and crustaceans. Though I do want to put some fish in there. The tank I've chosen is the waterbox cube peninsula 25. My question is how many fish can I put in there, or at least how many creatures can I put in there. I have a list of fish and other critters that I have chosen. To potentially put around the main two critters being a pistol shrimp and yellow watchman goby pair. I've always found symbiotic relationships like this fascinating especially in the ocean. So the list of potential tank mates are; Purple firefish goby Hi fin red banded goby Electric blue hermits Zombie snails Peppermint shrimp Spotted cleaner shrimp Percula clowns Royal gramma Tridacna crocea clam I'm really set on adding the clam to the tank as I think it be really cool as well as the purple firefish goby and spotted cleaner shrimp. Though depending on how many critters I can feasibly put in there without causing over stocking and subsequently stress. Will really affect what I decide to put in there.

Here is accidental video of my 6years old matured reef tank I use to love my tank mates especially my sps but unfortunately most of the thing died ,my nutrient level went way down even after dosing sodium nitrate 200ml nitrate use to be undetected changed many test kit thought it might be faulty but always same reading and one day my reef tank crashed thank to creator I was able to save my fishes and some of my corals....😥😥😥 -
Well, finally after I had to take my last tank down to move, I'm getting back into the reef game and I am beyond excited! My goal this time around is to make careful, researched decisions rather than just trusting the word of one LFS owner. I had a lot more mistakes that could have been avoided with abit more research. But you live and learn! I got an Evo 13.5 second hand off a local reefer, it's a shame that I pulled the trigger too late for the 365 contest but oh well, I don't need a contest to keep me going with this. Here's the run down: Tank: Evo 13.5 with stock lid while cycling (keep evap down) Lights: Stock while cycling - might see if my old Maxspect Razor 120 W light fixture is still in good shape, it's been in storage for a while though and the lighting tech has advanced alot in 5 years so I might want to look at something new, we'll see though. Return: Stock for now, I want to see how it does/sounds - I'm planning on getting a pair of the VCA random flow generators to replace the stock return nozzles. Filtration: chamber 1 - InTank media basket with just floss on top for now but them chemiclean blue and purigen for the other sections; chamber 2 - TBD, we'll see what I need; chamber 3 - return, heater, ATO ATO: Probably won't need while running the stock lid as I've read evap stays very low but when I ditch the stock lid, I think I'll go with either AutoAqua Smart ATO Micro or the Tunze Nano Osmolator. Tell me, which is your fave? Heater: Hydor 50W Additional flow: I've got an old Hydor Koralia nano 240 from my old build that I can use if I need it Rock: Starting dry this time. I want to see how it goes as I did live rock the first time around and it was COVERED in nuisance algae Sand: CaribSea Ocean Direct Live Salt: Red Sea Coral Pro salt Mix Stocking: a pair of clowns, maybe a lil something else like a green banded goby or a pink streaked wrasse. We'll have to see what is available I think that's all the core things... I'm probably forgetting something! I've leak tested the tank, all good there! Got rid of the black honey comb around the top of the tank, I wanted it clean. Pain to do but worth it in the long run. Now I'm playing with rock scapes while I'm trying to get the right fitting to hook my RoDi unit to my shower (got the wrong one and with isolation, shipping says what I think will be the right fitting won't arrive until mid May at the earliest.... MUST FIND WATER! lol Anyways, here are some pictures of the scape I'm thinking of. Send me your feedback, the good and the bad. This is V2. V1 was scrapped when a local reefer looked at the pics and thought there weren't enough hidey holes.

Hey guys how’s it going! I just recently bought a fluval 13.5 nano tank and decided I should start a forum on it to track the progress. My tank is already cycled I’ve had it going for about 5 weeks now. Everything in the tank is stock still no upgrades I wanted to ask people what are some of the best upgrades to start with. I am running the fluval ps2 mini skimmer and I’ve had pretty good results. I did use the biochem QuickStart and that is why my tank has gone through it’s cycleing process in a short time. I also have live reef rock and arganite. I did wait some time before adding new inhabitants to avoid spikes in my tank parameters. Inhabitants: 2 green/blue reef chromis 1 lawnmower Blenny 3 snails (forgot what type they are) 2 nassarius snails 1 designer clownfish (bought him today) 1 cleaner shrimp Corals: 1 Xenia frag 1 eagle eye zoanthid frag

Watchman goby/pistol shrimp pair and clown fish in a 10g

Hello all, im planning on getting a 10 gallon reef tank and I’m wondering if it’s safe to keep a clownfish with a watchman goby/pistol shrimp in there. Would it be better to keep just the clownfish on its own? Or to just keep a watchman goby and pistol shrimp on their own? Thanks! -
I recently found a red flat clawed hermit crab and then a cloak anemone attached to an empty shell at the beach. Acclimated them to my tank and they soon became friends. My tank is very new, just finished the cycling process and these are my first creatures in it. It’s been about 2 weeks since I introduced them to the tank and the anemone seems to be vibrant and lively but I have read so many posts about how anemones need to be in older tanks with optimal lighting and water quality. Is it too risky to keep? I am conflicted because I know anemones need specific care but this kind lives on the back of a bottom feeder with ever-changing lighting, water quality etc. in its natural habitat. I’m a first time reefer any advice is appreciated

Hey there fellow reefers! Don't judge me if I'm not doing this right as this is my first post ever on these forums cuz I don't know what else to do, or where to go to ask with the whole COVID everywhere is closed and a giant hassle. Anyways... My 90G tank has been running for 8 months now it's been cycled I've seeded it with copepods. I currently have 4 snails just cruising around cleaning the walls. There is 80lbs of CaribiSea agraalive sand and one lone rock. In the display I have a sump with filter sock and right after my bubble catcher in my return pump section (I know it's quite small cuz I have an external pump running not my doing came with the set up and was to anxious to wait till I had a new sumo to run it) so I just fires it up. It's done cycling. I'm not to new at reefing I have a 1.5 yr 60 gallon up stairs doing great fish and all but it's running a canister filter so the whole sumo thing is new to me. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

So I set up a new tank. After 3 years in the hobby I think I've made all the possible mistakes and I'm finally trying to do things right by automating as much of the upkeep as possible and getting my hands out of the tank. Life gets hectic, jobs get demanding, kids need raising, I guess everybody knows the spiel. My last tank, which I loved, was a Fluval Flex 8 Gallon AIO. The tank almost got killed by some scented sticks that triggered a huge bacterial bloom. I lost in a night 5 sexy shrimp, the friendlies cleaner shrimp I ever saw and a few coral. Almost got my 2 clowns as well, they've been with me from the start survived my noob mistakes: a tank crash, a 1000 mile move, heater malfunction and a cooler malfunction. No worse feeling then seeing them gasping on the bottom of the tank. Fortunately I moved them fast in to a temporary tank pumped a lot of O2 in an got them slowly back into shape. Anyway, enough back-story, let's get to the new set-up! Tank was set up on the 08 Nov 2020 assembled and aquascaped in a day, took longer to make the RODI then to set up the tank, it helped having everything already bought and waiting and I got real lucky with the rock, the aquascape almost built itself, rock fit like Legos, I used barely any cement. Tank: 30 Gallon/120 Liter Jewel Lido Filtration: Stock in-tank filter converted to refugium with Tunze eco chic refugium light 500grams of Seachem Matrix and a bit of Chaetomorpha Stock Return pump 160 g / h 600 l / h Heating/Cooling: Inkbird Controler with Stock 100w Juwel Heater & 2 usb fans Flow: Jebao sw 4 Lights: Aquamedic cube 50 & 2 Juwel Led Blue 438 8 hours lighting schedule for the juwel 6 for the aquamedic. ATO: Tunze Nano Osmolator oldest piece of kit that pump is damn near indestructible Skimmer: Tunze Nano 9004 UV: No name uv light rated to up to 30 gallons fits perfectly under the pump in the stock filter Dosing: Grotech NG1 single line dosser, will be dosing All for Reef after the tank stabilizes and I can calculate the consumption Automation: Techkin smart plugs, I can control lights and pumps from my phone Feeder: Juwel Autofeeder feeding pelets once a day on the lowest setting Monitoring: My old Mate 20 Pro the got it's screen shattered, turned into a makeshift streaming device: The Live Stream Stocking: The toughest two clown fish this side of the great barrier reef. Pic & Poc Coral: Zoanthids, GSP, Duncan, Goni, Various Mushrooms (that I though were dead but now are coming back), Green toadstool, Finger leather (that might not make it) Green Kenya Tree, Red montipora digitata (very sad at the moment) Chalice Coral, CandyCane, Elegance Coral, Gorgonians and Pulsing Xenia which got hit among the worse but still hanging in there. Clean up crew: A Hermit Crab that I had no idea was still alive, I actually dropped his shell on when I was moving the coral, he sat on the floor next to the aquarium for about 2 hours I'm not sure how he's still alive. A bunch of Brittle Starfish babies and a Trochus snails I guess that's it, I'm sure I'm forgetting something but I'll try to update this post as often as life allows it. If anybody wants any extra details I'm happy to answer.

My clownfish is hosting a purple tube as seen in the picture and is 2 inches max from the anemone but won’t get in. Any ways to help them find it? He is currently touching the anemone with his tail as well but refuses to jump in it.

Hello all reef keepers, I have just made the transfer from freshwater to saltwater by purchasing the Fluval EVO 12 gal. aquarium tank and I can not tell you all how excited how I am to add some livestock. I am looking for a pair of clowns, a watchmen goby and pistol shrimp, also would really love a royal gramma but do not know if the tank is big enough for one. And of course a cleaner crew, but unsure if I should wait until after I get fish. I am honestly more intrigued about the coral life and would love to hear your opinions on how I should establish/stock my aquarium. The whole setup is stock, and I will not be using that clear tube as my output flow do not worry I have ordered the dual output flow nozzle because for some odd reason that piece was missing from the kit. Anyway, I needed an opinion on my aquascape. Is there too much live rock? Also, if any of can share any beginner coral recommendations and placement ideas for the aquascape it will be greatly appreciated. I have a few ideas in mind, but I am open to others and would much appreciate any tips, feedback, or advice that any of you can share. Thanks!

So this is my first reef tank or anything fish related and I don’t have much money so I got what I could afford. Is this a ok amount of rock for a tank or should I add more or remove some. Will post updates as I go along. Just started to cycle the tank today. (I think that’s what it’s called at least lol) started with dry rock and dry sand. Mixed reef salt and purified water till 1.025 and added a cap full of starter. Dude said one a day till it’s empty. Will need to wait about 3-4 weeks till I add a fish or what ever is recommended. Plan is to have a micro reef tank and take it slow.

So after a 3 years without a tank, I decided to jump back in with a IM 10g. I had a 37g LPS tank for 6 years and a 180g mixed reef for 5 years - went all out, fairly successful but had issues come up that made the hobby unsustainable at the time. Looking to try and keep this one uncomplicated. ! It is amazing to me the advancements in the hobby just in the last couple years. Any helpful comments or suggestions greatly appreciated. Getting live rock and water tonight and will just cycle for a while before adding anything.

I’m hoping to get suggestions on good brands at an affordable price, and models that are good for a 20 gallon tank.

I have a biocube 14 with upgraded LEDs and a wave maker which does 144 gph flow. I have 4 coral colonies which are thriving The corals are Red Cap Monti (doubled its size in 4) Recently got an uknown stylophora which was in a low flow tank in Petco and got it for FREE (started growth on a new branch) Duncan coral (is growing 3 more heads) a yellow birds nest coral (also doubled its size) my cuc is 4 hermit crabs and an astrea snail. And centerpiece is a domino damsel I'm looking for 1 more easy to keep coral as I don't want to push the bioload. Any Ideas

Hi all! Let me begin by saying that I am relatively new to this hobby, but I have found this forum incredibly informative over the 100’s of hours I have spent researching! I started my journey several months ago with a nano reef tank (quite an undertaking for a beginner, I know). Thus far, I have had a fair amount of success, but I am concerned for the long-term well-being of my tank; thus, I am reaching out to you, fellow and experienced reefers, for some advice. I currently have a STOCK Biocube 16-gallon tank. I cycled completely before adding any CUC, fish, or corals. Over the past few months, I have slowly added a variety of species and everything has gone surprisingly well (I have only lost one Trochus Snail and a single Blue Legged Hermit). I have been running just the basic Biocube filter (replaced every few weeks) and my clean-up crew (1 Tuxedo Urchin, 2 Turbo Snails, 1 Margarita Snail, 1 Conch Snail, 4-5 hermits, 1 Emerald Crab, and 2-3 hitchhiker brittle starfish) to support a pair of clowns. . have also been doing 10-15% water changes every week. I have also noticed some unexpected copepods, worms, etc. that have made their appearance over the past few months. I have slowly added several species of “corals” including a hairy mushroom, RBTA, Pulsing Xenia, Plating Montipora, Zoas, and Acans. All of my parameters have been stable and within normal limits over the past few months (post-cycling). My question is: what preventative measures should I be taking at this point? I am in this for the long-haul and would like a fairly self-sustaining reef tank a few years down the road. Should I be dosing nutrients? Should I have some sort of media filter in my empty second chamber? Do I need to upgrade my lighting? What is my next step in working towards my long-term goal? I know this is a broad and novice question, but I appreciate all insights! Thank you!!!

Alright! after careful planning and research it now time to build my own 10 gallons AIO. This tank will be my testing ground to grow corals as I have been so hesitant to have corals previously within the 5 tanks that I have own which are now have been taken down. this tank will mainly house mostly Soft Corals and LPS and a few easy SPS. Custom Tank 16 x 12 x 12 Here is the rockscape that I made for the tank. I bought the rocks from The Aqua Culture, the most decent Reefing Store here in the Philippines!. I used Aquaforest StoneFix to bond the rocks together. It's like a cement though it dries quickly so you have to work on it fast, one more good thing about this product is that it doesn't contain harmful chemicals and doesn't leech out which means no need to cure!. One of the downsides I have seen on AIO tanks is that you can't see the sides of the back sump, So I asked the tank maker to make cut outs of the black sticker that will wrap the back sump so that the medias will be visible and to make it more easier to clean. One thing I have learn from my previous tanks is that 1. Plan everything ahead even future upgrades and 2. Make everything easier for you as Mike Paletta said "the easier it is for you to do, the more you will do it". Rio 600 for the return pump. I prefer a slightly powerful pump so that I won't be needing a wave maker which is an eyesore for a small thank like this. More to come! any recommendation for stocking list?

I noticed these little bugs I guess u can say or organisms on my glass.. I’ve never seen them before but they’re all over my glass. On of my fishes died the day before so idk if these are good or not

So long story short I adopted a crashing nano cube and all was lost. Time for a fresh start. I kept the stock hood and lights but got new bulbs, one of the fans was out so I upgraded both fans with overcool 60mm I also turned them to pull air in rather than to push it out (airflow observation made that a no brainer). I customised the return system a bit, I added a sicce multi 1300 to replace stock pump I then drilled a return line for the stock pump to come out of chamber 2 and flow is nice and slow to hit the back corners, it sits In chamber one so water goes through the whole aio sump. I went with reef cleaners dry rock and ended up with about 30lb of beautiful light rocks. I went with 30lb of aragonite oolite and a 3lb fully cured live rock from lfs. I tossed it in last night and immediately had a few tufts of red algea/coraline? This morning the tufts dissipated a bit and gave way to a little dark pebble making a ring around it (see photo) anyways that is all the excitement I have had so far. I hope that as I post my experiences and photos other reefers could chime in and help me understand what is happening, and give recommendations, advice, and knowledge.
