Sustainable Reef Stocking for 23 Gallon

Hey reefers! After many successful years in the freshwater hobby, I've decided to jump ship into reefing. My current system is a 23~ gallon display (I can't remember exact numbers since I use the metric system) with a sump (8 gallons?) with a skimmer, wavemaker ect. I purchased the tank already cycled and with coral from a local reefer 2 weeks ago, and have since added a happy pair of captive bred ocelaris clowns. I was wondering what other options I have in terms of livestock, but with a twist. I want my reef to have as little impact on the real ones as possible, so I'm looking for fish suggestions who are regularly available captive bred. I know this limits my options quite a lot, but I'm hoping you guys have my back. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

  3. Hey everyone, I'm setting up a new system and I need to know if anyone can te If the Plaskolite louver (white) egg crate is reef safe, The MSDS sheet says It has a low reactivity and Is not likely to harm aquatic or terrestrial organisms. I have no idea what kind of plastic it is however and am curious if anyone knows or has used it. I got it at OSH hardware. Thanks!
  4. I've got a bit of aged coconut shell I use for projects, and the outermost shell, after the rough husk has been sanded down it is really quite hard and tough without being treated at all. I'm wondering if it can be used to mount some kind of soft coral or if I can polish it with a cloth and create a very interesting aquascape. Its been in water for about 3 years and the outer shell didn't degrade visibly. If anyone had tried with something like this I'd love to hear about it.

    Storing bulk salt mix!

I like buying the 200 gallon bulk packs of salt but it seems like my salt gets humid or lumpy faster than it should. My typical process is to open the 50g bag and then transfer to a huge zip lock. I realized that salt crystals are getting stuck in the zip strip and preventing a good seal. I'm sort of embarrassed that I waited until now to find a better solution. I have used 5g buckets before but the salt somehow got humid in there too. Anyways, I had a leftover commercial food storage container from the creative pico contest so I decided to see what would fit in there. Turns out a 50g bag of Instant Ocean or Reef Crystals fits perfectly into the 6 quart container! Here's a link to one on Amazon, but I just bought mine locally for much cheaper. Also Sam's Club has a 2 pack of these with lids for $14. 2018-02-04_03-38-41 by aaron M, on Flickr - Note I mixed up a bit of salt before dumping it into this container so a new bag would be slightly higher - though who opens a new bag without using some of it? Anyways this may or may not help anyone but having damp or lumpy salt sucks and never seems to dissolve right so I figured that I would share a cheap solution. Another benefit is that these containers are all food safe so you can trust them.
  6. Is "Color Change Krazy Glue" (purple color when wet, clear when dry) reef safe? Anybody tried it?
