    10 gallon coral equipment

Hello, I have a new cycle cycled aquarium. I added two clown fish, 5 snails, live sand, live rock, a fluval filter. Also, I have 2 corals added in, and I will like to know if I will need protein skimmers or special lighting. Or just in general what kind of equipment to keep the corals happy.
  2. Hey guys, a friend of mine just gave me this skimmer and I'm wondering if any of you have experience with it. This is my first protein skimmer and I have no idea how to set it up. I watched the IM YouTube video for it and read the manual. The water level comes up to quickly and quite frankly I just don't know what I'm doing. The tank I'm using it on is my nuvo 20. Any input is appreciated.
  3. Is "Going Slow" the most controversial reefing topic? I could be wrong, but I presume everyone has heard the old reefer's motto: "Nothing good happens fast in a reef tank." I don't know who said it first*, but they were dead on. So how is it that, regardless of experience or circumstance, we all still seem to have tanks that are already full of fish (and usually corals too) within six months or a year when we are newbs? And why is it that when the "go slow" thing is brought up that we all seem to think we're going as slow as possible "because I see everyone else doing it this way"? Lastly, why is it that we don't connect our poor results (sick fish, etc) up with our disregard of this rule? I don't get it. Do you? I know there are folks who do go slow...you are exceptions that prove the rule. It would be great if some of you would share your experiences. * The saying predates me, BTW, and I "got in" around 1990.

  5. What is the latest in best set ups for a nano protein skimmer for a RSM 130D Max? I hope to keep it as close to plug and play as possible so it will fit in back of tank with no or minimal modifications to skimmer or tank. All the Google searches I do turn up threads with recommendations from 6-10 years ago. So, what are the latest recommendations? Is it still the Tunze 9004 (does even this fit in RSM 130D skimmer compartment?) or Tunze 9002 (now discontinued), the Aqua Medic Turbofloater 500, the CAD-Lights PLS 50 Elite II. Any others to consider? I'm not worried about price differences. My main search criteria is 1) fits in RSM 130D skimmer compartment, 2) Quiet (stock is so loud), and 3) works as good or better than most nano in-tank skimmers. Thanks for your help!

  8. Need some help/advice, guys. Have been running my tank for about 2.5 months now (20L), no fish but a few corals that seem to be doing well. My nitrates have been super high around 50ppm. Just did a huge water change, hoping that will help. I had a nuvo dc skimmer from IM that seems to have burned out. So I have an empty chamber currently and am considering setting up a little fuge. I also was thinking about maybe squeezing a slim skimmer and/or media reactor. I don't know if that is even an option, just a thought. Any advice on what I should do? My current setup is Chamber 1: filter sock. Chamber 2: skimmer. Chamber 3: Heater, return pump, ATO return. Thanks in advance!
  9. Hello, So im looking into getting a protein slimmer for the new reef tank I’m wanting to set up. The tank is 20 gallons and will one day have a clown fish anenome and hopefully a tuxedo urchin. I’m hoping to get suggestions on good brands at an affordable price, and models that are good for a 20 gallon tank.
  10. To those of you who have a MAME design skimmer, could you post a picture of how you have it set up? Specifically, how deep into the water do you place it and how high up do you have the bubbles go? I know it is working for me since I have green water that comes out, but sometimes it works awesomely (like very dark green water) and other times it doesn’t work as well. Im under the impression that I need an ATO to get the best use out of it, but until I get one, could you guys share with me the ideal placement for it? Additionally, do you find it to be super wobbly? I’m not sure if there’s a better way to set it up, since the instructions were all in Japanese.

    MAME design skimmer Air pump

Hey guys. Does anyone have a MAME design skimmer, and if so, what air pump do you use with it? I ordered mine online without realizing that I was going to need to buy additional parts. I have a fluval evo 13.5, im hoping that the air pump and the skimmer can all fit in the back chamber. Please let me know what you guys have used! I’m not sure what to order. Thank you!
  14. Hi, I have been trying to dial in my Fluval ps2 protein skimmer in my Fluval Evo 13.5 gallon tank and am not having any luck. Any guidance or tips to make sure this starts skimming properly would be great! Some thoughts I have; - does water level in tank effect the skimmer? - should you plug that hole in the second chamber so the “sump” is a closed system? Thanks in advance!

    IceCap K2-50 Yea or Nay?

Hello all! First post here on NR 🙂 Was just hoping for any input/advice/experience regarding the IceCap K2 50 skimmer. I'm starting up an ADA 60f (around 8 gal) along with a custom sump (another 10 gal) and want to get a decent skimmer. Will be moving most of the equipment from an old tank I have to the 60f. Everything about this tank: Stocking: 1 x Frostbite clown, 1 x Nearly Naked clown (idek if this is right) - These guys have been in a 7gal cube now for more than a year, so just changing tanks because I love the shallow ADA Pump: Sicce Syncra 1.5 Overflow: Glass Holes Super Nano Con Dientes Return: Glass Holes 0.5" Return Plumbing: in the process of getting some colored PVC 🙂 🙂 🙂 Wavemaker: Sicce Voyager 270GPH Light: AI Prime HD I also attached a picture of the current tank the nemos are in. Light is from amazon and am just using an eheim canister filter. I've read up on some other threads and it seems to me that people generally like the icecap. With that said, I'm super open to considering other skimmers. What I've also considered are: BM NAC 3.5 Reef Octopus BH-50 However, I'm afraid that if the skimmer is TOO overkill for a tank my size, then the collection might be poor? THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR ALL YOUR INPUT!!! 🙂 And thank you so much to all of you as I've learned so much from reading dozens of threads. I hope to make another thread documenting the process too.
  16. Have been reading everywhere and can’t seem to have found a solution so I have joined the nano reef community. first of all thank you for all the answers to questions that have been relevant to me in my first reef tank, this website has helped me a lot already. I am currently running a 90L nano reef tank that was an all-in-one-by aqua one. I am approximately 4 weeks into my fishless cycle with nitrites + nitrates still fairly high but what can you do. Regardless, I have the aquaone g226.. (I think) protein skimmer running in my sump, it has already collected skimmate - however there are millions upon millions of microbubbles in my tank. It seems too far along to have not broken in so I was wondering if anyone has had a problem with the same skimmer, and if there are any possible solutions? i believe the bubbles or coming from the output or the skimmer pump however I can’t narrow it down as the sump is too small to get my head in there Lol I don’t like the idea of just turning the skimmer off at night but it looks like it will have to come to that, I have also heard that a filter sock is a possible option too. I have tried to block the microbubbles as seen below thanks in advance !

Best HOB Skimmer for 36 gallon

Hey everyone, I haven’t been on here in a while as things have been pretty stable luckily. No issues, no tears. I would like to put some more coral in my tank but first id like to make sure I have my head on straight and I want to get a protein skimmer to help with the nitrates. I don’t have a sump so I need a HOB one. I know I previously posted something very similar to this but I wanted something cheap. My budgets a little higher now. I still don’t want to spend so much, but more around $100-$200 . Any help is appreciated. Thanks. edit: it’s a 36 gallon.

    Nyos 120 protein skimmer

Hello all, First time poster, long time reader!! So I've recently taken the plunge and decided to get into the world of marine aquariums and got myself an Aqua one mini reef 90. I thought this is a good starting point given this is my first attempt and like to dabble my feet in the water (pardon the pun ) I've thought about upgrading the standard Aqua One G220 as it's not only quite loud but it takes a fair amount of room in the sump. I've read a few reviews on the Nyos Quantum Protein Skimmer 120 and thought this may be a good upgrade for me to add to my setup - just wondering what peoples thoughts are on this skimmer and if it would be overkill on the mini reef 90 or if it would a worthwhile investment? Thanks in advance

  24. Hi Everyone, Looking to update the back of my nano 12 gal- 48 lite tank. I have a river reef all in one system. Been up for 2 1/2 years. Currently housing 2 montiporas, 1hammer head, xiena, zoanthids, Green star polys. Hope to eventually get a clam and a Trachyphyllia geoffroyi ,Challice coral I have recently removed the lid and got myself an AI prime light. I have a small eheim 350 skimmer which fails every now and then... Have coarse sponge, phosphate remover bag, carbon bag, ceramic cubes to hold bacteroa. - CAN I REMOVE ALL OF THIS IS IT NECESSARY ??? Dont like having to keep buying thing to replace like this.. Been thinking about changing to the following: I have 4 square sections at the back (Have phosphate at 0.50 ) Refugium- To grow Green hair algae - If i do can anyone recommend a little flat led strip to put over so it doesn't stick up out of my tank ?What bulb? How do i maintain when it grows? Do i just trim it when it grows etc for maintenance Kalwasser reactor - I have a 48 litre tank, i have looked at other conversations saying for a small tank this could be dangerous as such small doses are needed etc Automatic top off ??- Do i need one really? Since removing the lid i now add fresh ro water once a week. Protein skimmer ? Previously using a eheim 350 as had a hood on the tank but now removed lid so can upgrade to hang on the back if anyone know of a small skimmer which could fit this tank Thank you Any advice would be great
