  1. One of my turbo snails has a strange hitch hiker on its back. It looks like another shell. At first I thought it was one of the baby snails on it's back just chilling. But then I saw what was in the snail and got concerned. The flesh did not look like the other snails, it was black. And it would occasionally stick out and poke around. I have no idea what this could be and researching hasn't helped me either. Would really appreciate some help. Here is a video of the hitchhiker:
  2. Yesterday night my clownfish started flashing. There was nothing visible on his skin. I gave him a freshwater dip. I just got home from work today and he’s got a big white something hanging off his face. It almost looks like some sand stuck by his mouth, but it’s definitely stuck on. Quick background on my tank, it’s new (like 2ish months) and all the fish are newish too. I added a cardinalfish a LFS. Then I added the clown who I got from divers den live aquaria. Then I added a second cardinal from a second LFS. I’ve added coral from local stores and that I’ve ordered online. I didn’t quarantine anyone (I know I know I should have). Both cardinalfish are looking and acting totally normal. I gave the clownfish a freshwater bath for 5 minutes last night. I know it was probably too little too late, but I wanted to do something. Nothing visible came off him. It’s my first tank and I didn’t quarantine because I don’t really have the space or money to set up a quarantine tank. WHERE DO I GO FROM HERE?? What’s the cheapest/easiest but still ethical way for me to fix my clown? Aldo let me know if you need any additional info from me.

Does Shrimp Cleaning = Sick Fish?

Hi all, I have a cleaner shrimp in my 30 gallon tank that seems to have a voracious appetite. I’m very happy with the small skunk cleaner and how much he tries to clean my fish. But counterintuitively, this makes me worried about my fish. I know my tank has ich since I had an outbreak in the past, but all my fish currently look and act healthy. No spots or scratching on rocks or any other unusual behavior. My largest fish, a foxface rabbitfish has been getting a lot of attention from the shrimp. The rabbitfish was also hit hardest by the ich in the past. It’s a small tank and I guess it’s not easy to avoid the manic little shrimp (the rabbitfish is moving to a bigger home soon), but the rabbitfish often swims slowly past. The shrimp jumps on and starts to clean and the rabbitfish shakes him off shortly after. Not sure if the fish is asking for it or not. Either way, my real question boils down to this: If my cleaner shrimp is cleaning my fish a lot does it mean my fish is getting sick? Even if the fish shows no signs of infection? thanks in advance to any thoughts and advice!

How often can I dip a fish?

Hi all. I know there’s lots of literature on how to dip your fish to get rid of parasites. But I want to know how often you can dip a fish and I haven’t been able to find any answers when scanning the forums and web at large. I have a fish that’s gotten to be covered in ich. Very visibly so with large dots. I know dipping won’t eliminate the problem with the parasite still living in my tank. But I dipped my fish this morning in fresh water for 5 mins and watched the majority of the ich fall off or seem to disappear after returning the fish to the tank. I don have a quarantine tank or I would be using it. And I don’t want to treat the whole tank with chemicals if I can avoid it. Currently the fish is behaving as if it were healthy with somewhat elevated breathing but still eating well and swimming normally. In any case. The dip didn’t knock all the white spots off the fish but I was encouraged by the results. Assuming this infection is going to continue to persist to some degree after dipping the fish I am hoping that repeated dips might slowly allow the infection to lessen and the fish to have a chance to fight it off. (Yes it will live on in my tank but it could starve off in time if all the fish are healthy enough to avoid infection no?) bottom line. I do plan to dip this fish again as needed to prevent it from ever reaching a point of no return but I’d like to be as aggressive as I’m able. How often can I dip my fish? Twice a day? Every couple days? Every couple weeks? Etc.

Need help identifying this (with pictures)

Does anyone know what this is. It just showed up and it’s right after I was an idiot and didn’t dip a new coral. Should I be concerned?

Parasite on my acans?? Help? (Pictures)

I dont know what this is but it seems to be growing or living on the side of my acans. Will it hurt them?? Ignore my serpent star. It seems to have two tentacles/antennae?
  7. I am about to get a take and it has a lot of aphasia in it. Should I drain it and re do or try to fix. It has a LOT in it. Below is a picture, please give any advice on what I should do.
  8. I got home today to find my Wyoming White fish with a white speck near its mouth. I sat there and examined the rest of its body to trey to detect any other speck since its mostly white itÂ’s a little hard to tell but it seems that the one near his mouth is the only one. I have another clownfish that shows no signs of ich as well as a yellow watchman goby. I do have a 10 gallon tank but have no equipment for it. Not even a light. At the moment I canÂ’t afford to buy the equipment so my question is, is there a good way to test him without a quarantine tank. What IÂ’m thinking is soaking the fish pallets with garlic and seeing if itÂ’ll ride out on its own with the fish gaining a stronger immune system. I also heard vitamin C would help too but donÂ’t know how people soak the pallets with that, if you can give me some tips on that too I would grately appreciate it. I just tested the water and have been testing frequently and my levels are all fine, I do regular water changes. The clownish is eating very well, as a matter of fact heÂ’s the first to go For the food. He doesnÂ’t seem to be rubbing himself or anything other than the white speck heÂ’s demonstrating normal healthy behavior.  If the garlic doesnÂ’t work I will try to gather the funds for a quarantine tank as soon as I can to treat with copper but donÂ’t know how long that will be. IÂ’ve also been reading about freshwater dips but IÂ’m not sure if theyÂ’re too risky. Does anyone have any experience with that??  Please help with any advice you can give!!!  Â
  9. i got a motipora at a lfs, dipped it into iodine solution, put it into the tank, and shortly thereafter discovered these stripy things (legs?) sticking out from a crevice. should i be worried? they remind me of a long legged starfish that hitchhiked with another coral...
  10. Hello, I'm really worried about my clowns. I have 2 clownfish in a 10g FOWLR; tested the water last weekend, and the ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates are at zero, pH at 8. Everything was fine until my male clownfish had some stringy poop a few days ago and stopped eating today, so I put a dose of Prazi-pro in the tank. A few minutes later, my female clownfish starting doing backflips, completely flipping from head to tail. This is NOT twitching/dominance, etc. When I try to Google this all I find is responses about clownfish shaking and this is completely different. I uploaded a video at the link below, hopefully it will finish processing soon. She had been totally fine before and seems to have calmed down since. Both are acting lethargic near the sand right now. I'm new to the hobby and leaving on Wednesday for Thanksgiving so would really appreciate any advice to help heal both my clownfish! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wghCRVniQZA
  11. Hello, I’m wondering if someone can help identify this thing I noticed in my tank today. I did see this originally on one of my small purple snails and though it was part of the shell but now this thing is on the back wall of the tank. Kind of looks like a pill bug. My other snail has one on it to unless it has also moved.....

    New clown problems

Hey Guys. I am new on this forum, so I will introduce myself first. My name is Jan and I am from holland (so excuse me for my English I hope it will suffice). After reading a lot for months I finally dived in the saltwater world. I have over 30 years of freshwater experience and always wanted my own reef tank. Now time permits so... you guys will understand. As always I prepared very well (at least in my opinion), but I still encountered a problem. My tank is a 30 gallon which is up and running for two months now and was cycled using Red Sea Reef Mature. My parameters were steady for several weeks and about one week ago I bought my first clownfish. Two beautiful clownfish (first generation tank bred). After introducing them in my tank the small one ate directly but the larger one was a bit afraid. The day after I fed them again and since then the larger one is eating like a pig and the smaller one is not reacting to whatever I introduce. (Pellet food, brine shrimp, mysis and a marine mix freezer food) the first day I noticed some white feces by both clowns however I never saw this again. (Stress?) After gathering a lot of information over the last week I bought prazipro (which takes 10 days to arrive at my doorstep). Do you guys have any suggestions what I should do. At first I hoped he was just to nervous to eat but now I think something is wrong. Especially since the larger one is behaving perfectly! My parameters are: zero amonia zero nitrite 2 nitrate salinity is 35 Temp 26 degrees Celsius kh around 10 ca 450 mg 1400 i know I made a big mistake by not quaranteening the fish. Believe me... this will NEVER happen again. So the second question I have is: what meds should I use when quaranteening a new fish. Thank you guys in advance!
