I'm setting up my first tank, a 16G nano cube. I plan to have 3 fish in it, pretty heavy bioload (not gonna add them all at once). Should I get a clean-up crew? Does the clean-up crew add to the bioload or relieve it? I'm not very fond of snails -- instead I'm thinking shrimps, sexy shrimps specifically, emerald crabs as well maybe, but I'm not mad about crabs either. I like the idea of a clean-up crew composed entirely of sexy shrimps, but how many of them? And is it feasible to have one or more sexy shrimps in a 16G tank with 3 fish? Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks a lot!
So, I want to add the Reef Octopus HOB Skimmer to my 28G Nano-Cube but I cannot figure out how I can install this/where since I don't have a traditional sump and the lid fully encloses the top of the tank. Has anyone installed one of these on the "sump" in the back or have any suggestions, plus will the tubes fit into the 2" space available in the back. It makes since to me to put it where the water overflows from the tank, but that is where my filters are located. Does it matter if the skimmer intake is placed after the filters? Picture of the "sump" I'm working with ~2" from tank to back wall, and only 3 spots that maintain a constant water height, one being the overflow/filter area. For Sale: JBJ Nano-Cube with custom LED lighting, stand, heater, pump, and other misc. stuff. Lighting consists of 12 Cree XM-L U3 LEDs run at 1000mA each for a total output of about 5,500 lumens. While setup as a planted tank, this was more than enough for very light demanding plants and produced LOTS of pearling (I have a video showing streams of oxygen coming off plants). I have had this setup as both a planted tank and a reef tank and it worked perfect for both. Only issue with this is that the part of the hood that holds the little door on has chipped and so you can't flip it up and have it stay in place. It holds it fine while closed. Not noticeable if you aren't looking for it, but a minor inconvenience. Feel free to PM with questions. Local pickup in the Indianapolis IN area. $100
