    Instant Taco's Fluval Evo V

Hello fellow reefers guess its about time i started a little journal of my little pico tank. quick history, been reefing for about 5 years with a 45 gallon then took a 3 year break from the hobby. some coworkers got into the hobby and found out i used to own a reef tank. they were able to convince me to get back in. so with limited space in my apartment and wanting something simple yet challenging i always wanted to take a crack at a nano/pico tank. after some research i found the fluval evo line. i wanted the 13.5 but didnt have a place that could support the weight so i settled with the evo 5. so here we go Equitment Tank: Fluval evo 5 gallon 20.5 x 11.6 x 7.5" Return pump: NEWA MN606 - 159gph Lighting: stock 11k LED with 12inch ebay blue led strip Filtration: intank media basket with Top. floss Middle. carbon. 2. What’s up everybody! This is my first shot at a reef tank. When I set up this I originally wasn’t planning on posting it online or anything so I don’t have two many shots of the build and progress along the way. Started the tank a little under a year ago, but just last week I drained it, salvaged what livestock I could, put in new sand bed and aquascaping, and reconfigured my AIO filtration method. Been through a lot of trials and tribulations so far Equipment list: Tank: JBJ rimless 10-gallon AIO aquarium and stand Light: Nicrew 30W reef LED aquarium light 1st 1st filtration chamber: filter floss, chemipure blue, GFO 2nd chamber: (originally started out as a refugium) marine pure ceramic bioballs seeded with Micobacter7 3rd chamber: cheap heater I bought off Amazon, and the return pump that came with the JBJ tank (return pump intake set to ~50%) Live stock: hammers zoas mushrooms acans duncan blasto lobo favia clown pair Modifications: Added a random flow generator nozzle - best $20 I’ve spent on the tank! Let me know if you guys have any questions/advice! Much appreciated!

    Mushrooms melting

A while ago I noticed that my Mushrooms were splitting, I wasn't worried at first, but now they definitely are not doing well. At first I just thought something had maybe irritated them, but its gotten worse. The only thing I have introduced recently, have been a Lobophyllia Brain coral, and a Rock Flower Anemone, but neither of those are very close to the mushrooms. Most of my other coral seems to be doing well, in fact I've noticed new heads on my Blastomussa, and decent growth on my purple Montipora. I had these mushrooms for over a year, and it seems like over night something must have started going wrong. Salinity is 1.025, Ammonia and Nitrite 0, Nitrate 2, Ph 8.3. Does anyone have any idea what could be happening?

    Mushroom splitting?

Recently I noticed some of green mushrooms were kind of folded up and shrunken, but just last night I saw that there seems to be a tear in the middle of two of them. One this one at least I thought I saw two mouths, is it splitting?
  6. So... This wasn't exactly planned, but now I have saltwater again! After about 3 years of being out of the hobby, I'm back. When a friend offered me his Evo 13.5 for 100 bucks fully set up I couldn't say no! It arrived tonight, with a minor gha infestation and looking kinda bad. The stock pump apparently kicked it unless I'm doing something wrong, and I also might have dropped the SG to 1.022 after it was at 1.029. Oops. So tomorrow it looks like I'll be running to the LFS to pick up a new pump and saltwater. Tank currently has an emerald crab, a hermit of some sort, a damsel of some sort and a rainsford goby which was looking bad when it got to my house. Also, a partially dead gorg and some snails. I put a maxijet 1200 on it for now (good grief, it's horribly noisy!).
  7. Hey, So now that I have saturated myself with many hours of countless reading, I am ready build and manage a tank. I decided to go with this route because of equipment I already had. 10 gallon all in one setup. A very good starter read is here by steelhealr http://www.nano-reef.com/forums/index.php?...;hl=submersible the inspiration for this build and help came from lil'wrasse cool http://www.nano-reef.com/forums/index.php?...126726&st=0 I went into greater detail than most of you will need but these are questions I had when I was starting so... bear with it. Now for the pics, This is for a standard 10 gallon fish tank. The silocone will fill in the gaps so hair pin precision is not needed here. the bulkhead how it looks That is where I am for now. I will post more with fuge and siliconed. bzphotog
  8. Need to outfit my new shallow with easy sps and maybe some bright mushrooms. Any one have a few of these too ship to me or pick up around LA? Thx!
  9. Sorry for the newbie question, got a fancy mushroom colony on a rock from a friend of mine , discovered that there is one head on the bottom of the rock which is different a still very unique, would like to take it off the rock but i am too afraid to break the rock around it cz i can't do it without crushing the mother colony, is it possible to use a razor and peel it off? will this kill it? thanks
  10. Hello everyone I have a bitter sweet problem, I was given three green mushrooms about a year ago from my lps. Initially I thought of propagation due to wanting more. However I watched videos on YouTube stating to wait and when the time is right they will multiply on there own. Well they did and now they won’t stop, in a month I went from three to 15, now there’s about 30-40. They are even getting to the point where they are falling off the rock and floating to locations I didn’t intend them to be. Has anyone experienced this problem?, if so what did you do?
