  1. I started my 14 gallon Coralife BioCUBE on 26 Feb 18. I have two types of Frogspawn, a Kenya Tree with several frags, a Devil's Hand, and a colony of Zoanthids. I am thinking about adding one SPS. Has anyone removed their hood and replaced their lighting?
  2. I removed my Biocube’s hood, replacing stock lighting with the Kessil A160WE Tuna Blue, setting the acclimation: 14 days; starting intensity 20% (cf. above for schedule). My Biocube contains Kenya Trees, Zoanthids, Hammer, Favia, Blastomussa, Acan, and Candy Cane.

New NanoBox LED Color : Mint

NanoBox is excited to introduce a new color to the NanoBox lineup, Mint. The color was discovered after switching to the Luxeon C LED on the V3.1 array. We have been using Lime for three years and have had incredible success. The mint spectrum nearly mimics lime however has a peak under the 450nm ( wavelength ). As you can see in the graph below marked with light pink. What does this mean for reefers? A better overall color, better blending and a more ideal spectrum. We have tested this spectrum for over a year with amazing results. Our original Lagoon 25, IM Drop Off , Fusion 10 and now our Red Sea 170 have used the mint spectrum. Along with many of our loyal NanoBox customers. The mint color has a "greenish" tone however once you blend with royal blue, blue, cyan and violet you will see how it shines. Mint Only : Mix : When will this be implemented in the NanoBox lineup? We made the switch back in November! We started to hear more and more people talk about the color looking better and glad we made the switch. Mint costs a few cents more but is well worth it. Will we be able to run the mint channel independently? Yes, if you would like. When ordering I would need to know. If you currently have a Plus M model we can change the wiring to separate the mint. Experiments? We have been running all of our tanks without any white supplementation for sometime. The results have blown us away. While there still needs to be true testing done ( spectrograph ) we believe this is a step forward. Creating a "reef" spectrum without white. If you look at 90% of the LED lights out there the white channel is marginally used. NanoBox will be sending a unit out to be tested utilizing only mint, royal blue, blue, cyan and violet. Rainbow Chalice Under Above : Have questions? Ask away! Happy reefing! -Dave
  4. Hi, I have a question, do I need to turn on the light in the fuge exactly when the tank's light is OFF, or 1h before? Thanks
  5. So I have had my evo since they first came out back in the middle of 2016 and recently I noticed some of my lights went out. Contacted fluval and they sent me a new light under warranty. It appears to be slightly different and the led’s seem to be better protected...... problem was that the freaking new light wouldn’t even turn on ?. Fluval is sending me another one that should arrive today so hopefully that one actually works. But wanted to share some pics of the new light. The old one is on the right, new one on the left. Also the connectors are better and have a tighter fit
  6. I'm selling a Current USA Orbit Marine Aquarium LED Light, bought in June of this year, because I am breaking down the tank that it was used on. Its in great shape, only in use since June, I can post pictures once I get home but besides a little dust its pretty much new. Heres the amazon listing for the fixture, its the 24''-36'' adjustable one. Im looking for $100 or OBO, willing to ship or Local Orlando Fl meet up.
  7. Bought a Radeon XR15W G4 Pro yesterday and im super happy with it, I was looking through the ecotech website and saw I could import custom made settings. Can anyone recommend where I can find some? Or if anyone knows any good ones. My tank is about 10 days old or so.
  8. I am going to setup a fowlr tank in my 20 gallon hexagon. But I would like to find something decent for a lighting unit. I dont want to go crazy expensive because it is only a fowlr (~100 or less.) Or I could just get a bulb for the current hood I have; but I really dont know the type of bulb to look for. I want something that will be nice and bring out the colors in my fish and crow coralline if possible. ALSO Could I get a glass lid for it from somewhere??? I would like to do this, but dont know if anyone sells them anywhere at all.

Lights on for to long with coral

Hello I left my light (ai prime) on by accident it’s was on all in mode from 11:30 till 10:30 and all of my spectrum was on max because instead of schedule I pressed all on. Oops. I have one zoa frag a rose bubble tip nem and a carpet nem on the other side (I am selling it tomorrow to the store tomorrow) i have a carpet nem that was very deflated but I fed about 24 hours before. but the rose bubble tip was not deflated. Is there a thing to worry about that is not alge I also have 2 clowns a pigme angle and a dotty back. And all my parameters are good I just checked. Ps previously my lights were on 10 and a half hours a day running a low light spectrum
  11. Hi everyone, I recently upgraded to a larger tank from my Nuvo 10 and am no longer using this light. The light is in perfect shape other than one corner of the acrylic cover over the leds. I have that shown in a picture below. The piece still tightens down and was done during cleaning. I bought the light in late August of 2016. The power supply was replaced by Dave in May of 2017 due to a buzzing sound. It has been running at 70-75% and grew anything I wanted. Fan and heat sink were just cleaned when I took it down a couple of weeks ago. Price is $170 plus shipping.
  12. Just curious as to what you experts think of my schedule. It's basically a mix of the EcoTech SPS and LPS schedules, but setup in a way to replicate the intensity of the sun over a 12 hour period. Right now, I have a 12 hour total cycle, with blues and purples on a 4 hour ramp each side. The middle 4 hours kinda has it's own intensity peaking, to replicate noon. My red, green, and white are only on for 8 hours, and they peak as well at the same 'noon' time as the blues and purples. The first and last 2 hours before the white, red, and green come on is the best time to view since it's only uv, purple, and blues. Lunar is from midnight to 5am, then there is a 6 hour total dark period for coral respiration and to keep algae in check. Peak is 113 uv, 113 violet, 90 royal blue, 90 blue, 10 green, 10 red, 30 white. Would it be beneficial to run the entire spectrum for the 12 hours? Does the theory make sense? Should I run lunar the entire time, or is it good to have the 6 hours of darkness? Just let me know your thoughts, and if I'm on the right track, thanks.
  13. Hi all, I have some questions about lighting. I started my 32 G Biocube in October and everything has gone decently well so far. I've never had any aquarium before. I feel that I've grasped most concepts regarding reef keeping, however lighting is an area I can't seem to wrap my head around. Recently our brain coral has been pretty closed (ever since my husband decreased the # of hours the lights are on). It got me thinking the light schedule must be wrong. I've read to keep all 3 lights on for about 10 hours/day with a ramp up/down of the LC2 (sunrise/sunset) channel and ending with the LC3 (blue) for a few more hours before total darkness. This is not what I've been doing. I had my 2 white lights on for about 8-10hr/day then blue on for another 5 or so at night. If anyone has personal experience with their 32 gallon Biocube, which has the 3 different light stages (blue/moonlight, bright white, and color enhancing) LEDs, please share your light schedule if you feel you've had success with coral growth and survival. It would be nice to have a few opinions. I've been scanning the web for hours and can't seem to find any useful information. Thanks! Ashley
  14. Hi all. After a long break, I'm finally getting back into the hobby. I'm a bit overwhelmed with all the new lighting options and need some help. I have a Mr. Aqua 22 gallon long (36in x 12in x 12in) and I just can't figure out if I should go with 2 Kessils or 1, the 160 or the 360. Or perhaps AI? And if I do, do I go with 2 HD's or 1 Hydra? Or a Radion...or a nanobox? I want a versatile setup that will let me grow almost anything successfully. I also don't want to go over $700. Any help is appreciated!

Best light for Nuvo 10 Gallon

Hi there! Im looking for best lighting options for a 10 gallon nuvo fusion aquarium. Planning on having some corals in it, a leather, a few zoos, and potentially an anemone. We previously had a 100 gallon reef tank that was great and when we moved and bough our first house pretty much everything was decimated after the move. We ended up tearing the whole tank down because we were so upset about losing everything. My husband is who introduced me to saltwater aquariums and I bought him a full setup for a nano tank as he has shown a lot of interest in them. We have a hydra light that was used for our 100 gallon which I know is likely far too much for this tank. Please leave any suggestions for a good light for a first time nano tank! Thank you

AI PRIMES LIGHT SCHEDULE ON IM10

Hey everyone! Been 2 weeks since I set up my tank, cycle is finished (nitrates are still around 20~) and everything is coming along nicely. I've added my clean up crew (10-13 small hermit crabs, and 2 nassarius snails) Before I add my first clown and some small zoa frags, I'd really like to know if anyone has some input or feedback for the ai prime light schedules they use. Here is the one I just created (taking into account that I'm working all day so I'd like to view my tank at night time more than during the day...) If anyone can tell me if I'm off to a good start, I'd really appreciate it, obviously I'll need to adjust as I see fit for the coral I decide to add eventually, but I do not want to bleach my corals either from the get go. Max output gets to 20 watts and I have my blues and purple as my drivers, white is on the lower end. (Lights go on at 1:30pm, ramp up until 9pm, and then ramp down and close at 12:30am (midnight, yes I sleep late) Thanks again guys, happy reefing!
  18. LOCAL PICKUP ONLY PLEASE, in SWFL, NOT SHIPPING! Used DIY hybrid reef light, made of a 6 bulb Tek T5ho fixture, and replaced two bulbs with a current orbit marine LED light (~36w). The bulbs are 39w, 2 x ATI blue plus, an aquablue special, and giesemann super actinic. This is a really great blend of color with the LEDs and has produced awesome coral growth and colors. The LED is controlled with the current ramp pro timer, can mimic sunrise and sunset. The T5 can be put on timers to come on in pairs of two in between. Really great feature for only $225! The bulbs still have 6 months of life left in them, I just moved and downsized tanks. The light was mounted about 14" above my fish tank, no splash guard, has a little surface rust, but it is a sound fixture. Please email above or call/text 850-570-1423. Images are of MY coral grown under this light, including SPS, crocea clam, anemone. All flourished! Two used 36" LED light strips. One unknown brand actinic only, quality reflector, so might be ecoexotic or reef tech. The other is a dimmable BML (Build my LED) full spectrum light with splash guard/diffuser. Both come with power supplies. I bought them used a year ago but never got around to using them, now i moved and downsized my aquarium. These would be great supplementation to a T5 fish tank light, or can grow coral in a shallow enough tank (<20"). Selling BOTH INCLUDED with the hybrid fixture. Please PM or call/text 850-570-1423. Thank you.
  19. Looking for a kessil A160WE for my 14g cube. Send me your best offer.
  20. Reposting as I got it cleaned up and tested it fully to verify there is no damage to pucks or controls. I may have overreacted... Maxspect R420R 120w 16kDimensions - 20.5” x 10” x 0.9”Weight - 4.4 lbIncludes 120 and 90 optics , Tank Mount legs - No tightening screws, never need them. No Original Box or Instructions. I think I have a PDF of them, but it is readily available on Marine Depot product page here. The same link has info on the LED array. I have been running this light on my JBJ 45 RL for a little over a year now. Has been replaced by a Nanobox Quad so I am selling it to recoup some of the cost. I picked this up from a fellow reefer here on nano-reef.com and thought it was only fitting to pass onto another forum member. Light is programmable for a day/night cycle - ramps up/down to simulate sunrise and sunset. My peak mid day is 40% whites and 75% blues on a very slow and gradual 10 hour cycle. Light has been great but when the wife okays a Nanobox you don't argue, you just ask Dave to send the invoice and pay ASAP! Looking for $175 OBO Shipped from Kansas City, and shipping included in price unless you want to upgrade shipping to something other then standard ground.
  21. Selling my 24'' Current Marine Orbit PRO VERSION. Used for 2 months, with blues @60%, whites @ 30% on my 20 long. I decided I missed the t5 & went back. This light does very well, all frags grew in size & colored up nicely. Im just old school I guess & missed my t5's. My next tank will be bigger so I have no use for this light. Comes w/ everything, ramp timer, remote, instructions, original box. $150 including shipping.
  22. Breaking down main tank. Newer model in excellent condition. Comes with 120 degree optics. Used for about a year on relatively low intensity for LPS tank. Comes with hanging kit, legs, and original box. Figured I would post here before I throw it up on eBay. $300 shipped in continental US. Contact me with phone # for pics.

    Lighting time for reef

I saw this video by a well known reefer on YouTube (my question is below): He basically talks about the position of the sun throughout the day in relation to light intensity. Now my question is, for those of us that cannot control the intensity of the light in our tanks, should we be cutting down the time our lights are on during the day. My are on a timer for about 8-10 hours a day. I've read that corals need about 8 hours per day. any thoughts on this?
