    Hi

Hi Everyone I’ve been searching and I understood that LED lights are not enough for a reef tank but I’m a bit tight budget so what do your Recommend for a high-quality lightning but with a reasonable price thank you for helping.
  3. Light schedule for Biocube 32

Hi all, I have some questions about lighting. I started my 32 G Biocube in October and everything has gone decently well so far. I've never had any aquarium before. I feel that I've grasped most concepts regarding reef keeping, however lighting is an area I can't seem to wrap my head around. Recently our brain coral has been pretty closed (ever since my husband decreased the # of hours the lights are on). It got me thinking the light schedule must be wrong. I've read to keep all 3 lights on for about 10 hours/day with a ramp up/down of the LC2 (sunrise/sunset) channel and ending with the LC3 (blue) for a few more hours before total darkness. This is not what I've been doing. I had my 2 white lights on for about 8-10hr/day then blue on for another 5 or so at night. If anyone has personal experience with their 32 gallon Biocube, which has the 3 different light stages (blue/moonlight, bright white, and color enhancing) LEDs, please share your light schedule if you feel you've had success with coral growth and survival. It would be nice to have a few opinions. I've been scanning the web for hours and can't seem to find any useful information. Thanks! Ashley

    Is my coral happy?

I just got my first coral, it’s spotted mushroom from live aquaria. I’ve read their instructions on placement and water flow, but I’m wondering, how do I know if these corals are happy/doing well? How do I know if I should move them to a different place in the tank?
  7. So I have had my evo since they first came out back in the middle of 2016 and recently I noticed some of my lights went out. Contacted fluval and they sent me a new light under warranty. It appears to be slightly different and the led’s seem to be better protected...... problem was that the freaking new light wouldn’t even turn on 😒. Fluval is sending me another one that should arrive today so hopefully that one actually works. But wanted to share some pics of the new light. The old one is on the right, new one on the left. Also the connectors are better and have a tighter fit

    Lighting questions and acrylic lid

Hi all, First, a huge thank you to everyone on this forum that has been so helpful to me with all the posts I’ve made. Your advice has been crucial as I have been learning more about this hobby. I want ant to ask about lighting. A month ago I picked up someone’s used 32 gallon biocube that they had modified. They removed the canopy and replaced it with a mounted vivaspectra led light and a mesh cover. Recently ive been looking to change that setup since evaporation has been requiring me to add fresh water to the tank twice daily to maintain salinity. It’s impractical to have to use the RODI machine that often and so I built myself an acrylic cover to replace the mesh lid. I want ant to know if this will affect the light that reaches the tank. Does anyone have experience/ is it a good idea to run light through an acrylic panel and still grow healthy corals? aditionally the light is adjustable and can dim the 10k whites and actinic lights independently and im trying to decide what ratio of the two will be best for growing my corals. A few montipora, some acans, a couple chalices, and Zoas are the corals I’m currently growing. Assuming I have the right placement for each what spectrum of light is ideal to help them grow? More blue or more white? Will the acrylic lid affect how this ratio reaches the corals? any advice is deeply appreciated!

Acan Echinata: How fast does it grow?

Thinking of buying a decent sized colony of Acan Echinata on sale at my LFS. Does anyone know how fast this coral grows? With/without feeding? Is it hard to care for? Basically any advice? Is it ok for someone with beginner to moderate experience with corals? (I’ve been keeping Monty Cap trumpets and frogspawn successfully for a few months)
  10. I started my 14 gallon Coralife BioCUBE on 26 Feb 18. I have two types of Frogspawn, a Kenya Tree with several frags, a Devil's Hand, and a colony of Zoanthids. I am thinking about adding one SPS. Has anyone removed their hood and replaced their lighting?
  11. I decided I’m going to replace the stock lights on my evo. Considering the AI prime HD but I just saw Aqamai has a new model called the LRS coming out. Anyone have any experiences with the LRM?
  12. Hey all, got a quick question, would this light work for a pico to nano tank ranging from 3 gallons to 10 gallons? ABI Aquarium light
  13. I removed my Biocube’s hood, replacing stock lighting with the Kessil A160WE Tuna Blue, setting the acclimation: 14 days; starting intensity 20% (cf. above for schedule). My Biocube contains Kenya Trees, Zoanthids, Hammer, Favia, Blastomussa, Acan, and Candy Cane.

New NanoBox LED Color : Mint

NanoBox is excited to introduce a new color to the NanoBox lineup, Mint. The color was discovered after switching to the Luxeon C LED on the V3.1 array. We have been using Lime for three years and have had incredible success. The mint spectrum nearly mimics lime however has a peak under the 450nm ( wavelength ). As you can see in the graph below marked with light pink. What does this mean for reefers? A better overall color, better blending and a more ideal spectrum. We have tested this spectrum for over a year with amazing results. Our original Lagoon 25, IM Drop Off , Fusion 10 and now our Red Sea 170 have used the mint spectrum. Along with many of our loyal NanoBox customers. The mint color has a "greenish" tone however once you blend with royal blue, blue, cyan and violet you will see how it shines. Mint Only : Mix : When will this be implemented in the NanoBox lineup? We made the switch back in November! We started to hear more and more people talk about the color looking better and glad we made the switch. Mint costs a few cents more but is well worth it. Will we be able to run the mint channel independently? Yes, if you would like. When ordering I would need to know. If you currently have a Plus M model we can change the wiring to separate the mint. Experiments? We have been running all of our tanks without any white supplementation for sometime. The results have blown us away. While there still needs to be true testing done ( spectrograph ) we believe this is a step forward. Creating a "reef" spectrum without white. If you look at 90% of the LED lights out there the white channel is marginally used. NanoBox will be sending a unit out to be tested utilizing only mint, royal blue, blue, cyan and violet. Rainbow Chalice Under Above : Have questions? Ask away! Happy reefing! -Dave
  15. Hi, I have a question, do I need to turn on the light in the fuge exactly when the tank's light is OFF, or 1h before? Thanks
  16. I'm selling a Current USA Orbit Marine Aquarium LED Light, bought in June of this year, because I am breaking down the tank that it was used on. Its in great shape, only in use since June, I can post pictures once I get home but besides a little dust its pretty much new. Heres the amazon listing for the fixture, its the 24''-36'' adjustable one. Im looking for $100 or OBO, willing to ship or Local Orlando Fl meet up.
  17. Bought a Radeon XR15W G4 Pro yesterday and im super happy with it, I was looking through the ecotech website and saw I could import custom made settings. Can anyone recommend where I can find some? Or if anyone knows any good ones. My tank is about 10 days old or so.
  18. I am going to setup a fowlr tank in my 20 gallon hexagon. But I would like to find something decent for a lighting unit. I dont want to go crazy expensive because it is only a fowlr (~100 or less.) Or I could just get a bulb for the current hood I have; but I really dont know the type of bulb to look for. I want something that will be nice and bring out the colors in my fish and crow coralline if possible. ALSO Could I get a glass lid for it from somewhere??? I would like to do this, but dont know if anyone sells them anywhere at all.

    Nanobox Tide Plus M FS

Hi everyone, I recently upgraded to a larger tank from my Nuvo 10 and am no longer using this light. The light is in perfect shape other than one corner of the acrylic cover over the leds. I have that shown in a picture below. The piece still tightens down and was done during cleaning. I bought the light in late August of 2016. The power supply was replaced by Dave in May of 2017 due to a buzzing sound. It has been running at 70-75% and grew anything I wanted. Fan and heat sink were just cleaned when I took it down a couple of weeks ago. Price is $170 plus shipping.Â
  22. Just curious as to what you experts think of my schedule. It's basically a mix of the EcoTech SPS and LPS schedules, but setup in a way to replicate the intensity of the sun over a 12 hour period.  Right now, I have a 12 hour total cycle, with blues and purples on a 4 hour ramp each side. The middle 4 hours kinda has it's own intensity peaking, to replicate noon. My red, green, and white are only on for 8 hours, and they peak as well at the same 'noon' time as the blues and purples. The first and last 2 hours before the white, red, and green come on is the best time to view since it's only uv, purple, and blues.  Lunar is from midnight to 5am, then there is a 6 hour total dark period for coral respiration and to keep algae in check.   Peak is 113 uv, 113 violet, 90 royal blue, 90 blue, 10 green, 10 red, 30 white.  Would it be beneficial to run the entire spectrum for the 12 hours?  Does the theory make sense?  Should I run lunar the entire time, or is it good to have the 6 hours of darkness?  Just let me know your thoughts, and if I'm on the right track, thanks. Â
  23. Hi all. After a long break, I'm finally getting back into the hobby. I'm a bit overwhelmed with all the new lighting options and need some help. I have a Mr. Aqua 22 gallon long (36in x 12in x 12in) and I just can't figure out if I should go with 2 Kessils or 1, the 160 or the 360. Or perhaps AI? And if I do, do I go with 2 HD's or 1 Hydra? Or a Radion...or a nanobox? I want a versatile setup that will let me grow almost anything successfully. I also don't want to go over $700. Any help is appreciated!

Best light for Nuvo 10 Gallon

Hi there! Im looking for best lighting options for a 10 gallon nuvo fusion aquarium. Planning on having some corals in it, a leather, a few zoos, and potentially an anemone. We previously had a 100 gallon reef tank that was great and when we moved and bough our first house pretty much everything was decimated after the move. We ended up tearing the whole tank down because we were so upset about losing everything. My husband is who introduced me to saltwater aquariums and I bought him a full setup for a nano tank as he has shown a lot of interest in them. We have a hydra light that was used for our 100 gallon which I know is likely far too much for this tank. Please leave any suggestions for a good light for a first time nano tank! Thank you
