Aloha!!! Well, it seems that there was enough interest to make an official Lifegard Aquatics Crystal (All-in-one) Aquarium thread! The purpose of this thread is for all of us to come together, discuss, modify and just collaborate in general about our awesome, yet underrated Aquariums. LIFEGARD Aquatics has been around for quite some time, and while their main focus is on Commercial Aquaculture, they were cool enough to make nano-tanks for the hobby! I will also create links directly to everyone's personal tank journals as well! Even though I just ordered the 24.09 AIO, I'm going to begin to link people's tanks and get this party started! I know some of you have expressed your frustrations with lack of options for modifications, custom caddies, etc. I will be personally reaching out to INTANK about making many of the mods and gadgets they make for all the other brands, for us as well! Hello everyone! This will be my first reef tank ever, hopefully it helps that I've only had nano and pico tanks anyways. ~~FOR THE CURRENT BUILD SKIP TO PAGE 3~~ *Clears Throat* Hello. Never thought that I would be here with another build, but alas, here we are. Over the past few months I have all but gotten out of the hobby. Between renovating our living room, and then overhauling the yard I have had no time to take care of a tank, let alone think about them. I guess like a lot of things in life this hobby ebbs and flows for me and balancing reef tanks with a few other interests has proven difficult if not impossible recently. To add insult to injury I have had to sell off most of my hobby things to help fund the ever hungry academic adventure that I am apart of. With the end of summer on the horizon, though, things have started to slow down a little and it was my wife who mentioned that a particular bookshelf would look nice with a reef tank to fill the space. Haha I think she missed having a reef tank more than I did. Well, I have to admit I didn't sell ALL of my reefing stuff (come on now 😉), and I soon found myself pulling out a gently used Lifegard Aquatics 6 gallon bookshelf aquarium out of storage. It took some work with a razor to scrape off all of the old crusties from once upon a time when it was a planted aquarium, but it cleaned up pretty nice. In a perfect world I wouldn't mind hanging some high end lighting and really going to town on this little tank, wouldn't we all, but in the process of paying for school I had to sell my wallet as well, so I guess we're going for broke with this one. I did however have a few pieces here and there and a hardscape took shape. I usually use Aquamaxx's (RIP MarineDepot) reef welder to glue rocks together, but given the delicate nature of the scape I was trying to achieve it really looked tacky so I switched to just plain old superglue which worked well still. I decided to only add a minimal* layer of "standard grade" Caribsea sand (*all I had). I want to go pretty minimalistic on equipment as well as looks with this tank so between a light, a heater and small wavemaker that will be the only tech powering this tank. I placed an order for an inexpensive Nicrew LED. Since this tank is so shallow, I figured I can get away with a less powerful lighting setup (and save some coin too). Filtration will be taken care of by the rock and sand as well as water changes. I do expect some hiccups in trying to find a groove with this tank, given how low tech it will be, but it shouldn't be too hard to upkeep (<famous last words ha!). I have a few housekeeping things to do; wire management and hanging the light when it arrives. And as per tradition, a mixed reef seems proper here. We also had a friend open a new shop just a few blocks away so some perusing might occur soon. Backstory I originally started this tank in a Fluval Spec III in 2020 and was moderately successful until the tank had an unexpected and still unexplained decline in Dec 2021. I think it was chemical warfare with a dying BTA but all that to say I never figured it out and then rebooted the tank in the Spec III on October 3, 2021 with the existing rock and clownfish. I then added the Toadstool and Zoas and things were very stable for a 6+ months less some coral frags that didn't make it, like some SPS birdnest. Then the Spec III developed a leak in the rear, bottom part of the tank and I moved everything into the Lifegard 4.1 as I liked the AIO design, the profile of the tank, and it was available at my local fish store for a very reasonable price. The tank has been in its current form since then and I am slowly adding corals again. Setup Tank is sitting on a small piece of furniture that originally had 4 drawers that I modified to be 1 drawer with a generous area underneath for electrical and ATO storage. The drawer holds the day to day maintenance supplies like the refractometer, tweezers, etc. Underneath storage has enough room for a gallon bucket of RODI top-off water and the electrical components: Power cords, power strip, light timer, Inkbird controller, and a Reef-Pi. Hello everyone, I recently made a lifestyle change after having a few small reef tanks in my house. Long story short, I made the switch and chose to go full time RV about a year ago. I sold all of my furniture, including all of my reefing supplies and tanks, thinking a small reef was impractical in a RV. As many of you know, the “reefing itch” never leaves you once it hooks you lol. After some irrational mixed with rational thoughts and planning, I am happy to say that I have set up a pico reef…in the Airstream! One of the best parts about this reef is that if I do decide to travel somewhere in the RV for a weekend, the pico can be completely taken down and transferred to a stable environment with one 5 gallon bucket. For some that may remember, I used to have the same tank setup as a pico reef before I moved, but I will be using different equipment this time. Here is a breakdown of my tank and equipment… -Lifegard Aquatics 4.1 AIO -Kessil A80 tuna blue -25 watt heater -ReefBreeders Prism ATO -Sicce nano return pump (100gph) -5 lbs Caribsea life rock -Hawaiian live black sand -Red Sea coral pro salt -InTank media basket -Kraken Reef custom lid -BRS 4 stage RODI As far as the media basket filtration, I have one Chemipure nano packet, additional minor amount of Red Sea carbon, one bio ball, and some poly filter balls that are from a desktop IM purity pack. I only use the filter balls from the pack. Fits perfect in the media basket and is easy enough to rinse out 2x/week. I set this tank up at the beginning of August with a fishless cycle, added a raw shrimp from the local grocery store. The guys face was priceless when I asked him for only one shrimp at the seafood deli. Yea, just one man! I’m on a strict diet! I added Dr. Tim’s one and only to get things going. My ammonia spiked up to about 8ppm using an API test kit, so I took the shrimp out after three days. The whole initial cycle took about 26 days to complete. The maintenance plan for this tank will be minimal, including a 75% water change every week, siphoning sand and back chambers as needed. When I was planning this tank, I had thought about making it a zoa dominated softie tank. I have since decided to make it a mixed reef complete with goniopora varieties, high end zoas, and maybe some easier SPS. As of right now, I have a few zoa varieties, a neon green goni, baby fungia, and probably my favorite so far, a Koji Wada pink nepthea. I added a few small trochus snails to start doing their thing. As far as fish, I picked up a baby neon dottyback who absolutely loves being the only fish in the tank. I can tell that he has a lot of attitude for as small as he is. Currently at about an inch long, he is the king of the reef. Current parameters- Salinity 1.025 (Hanna), temp 78.9 (Hanna), ALK 12.5 (Hanna) phosphates 0.11 (Hanna), nitrates 2 (Salifert). I plan to use the Red Sea kit for calcium and Aquaforest for magnesium. Just haven’t picked up those two yet. Last time around, I used the Red Sea blue bucket salt, but decided to switch it up and try the Red Sea coral pro with higher ALK this time. It will be neat to compare growth and color vs using the blue bucket. I plan on attending Reefapalooza-Texas here in a few weeks and am really excited about it. I am hoping to pick up some fire and suck up some deals going on! Well, I think that sums things up for now. Thanks for checking out my setup. With social distancing having no foreseeable end in sight, my significant other gave me the green light on a pico/Nano bookshelf build. I have a confession; another pico reef is on it's way. 😅 Life has been absolutely nuts for me right now, some would call it "chaotic"😉. Even still, ever since I tore down my 365 dropoff tank I've been on the hunt for a small replacement. To scratch that itch 😅. I've been eyeing Lifegard Aquatics' new "Elevated" series aquariums since they were announced earlier this year, and the smallest of the bunch really peaked my interest. (What can I say? I'm a sucker for small AIOs). With Marine Depot having their Black Friday sale and spending weeks trying to ignore a painfully empty corner on my desk in my office at home, I finally said to myself, "it's time." Probably some Aptasia somewhere FTS 08/16/2021 I've had a bit of time to think about how I'm going to go about piecing all of this together during a small trip my wife and I took up to Oregon recently (beautiful drive) to pick up our new furry friend, but I'm still on the fence about some things. I have several ideas in mind, but I think either way I'll be leaving the bottom bare to take advantage of the lifted glass bottom of this tank. I'm also scheming a new return nozzle layout given the peculiar design of this system. I was thinking about just getting an RFG nozzle, but heck I have a 3D printer; I've been wanting to try some return nozzle designs of my own so this will probably become a testbed for that. I've also ordered a dc650 return pump from Reefbreeders as I want more flow and more control; SPS coral is a curiosity for this tank. Although we'll have to see if the overflow can take it (hopefully a design flaw from the other crystal series aquariums that was corrected). The goal is to keep things simple and minimalist with low maintenance. Ideally, I would like to avoid dosing, but I do have a IceCap dosing pump that has been handy in the past. We'll be using Hawaiian black sand and minimal island-style rock work using the main pieces from the current display. Looking to house most zoanthids/palys (my fiance's favorite), photosynthetic gorgonians, mushrooms, and maybe a few basic encrusters (monti, cyphaestra, psammocora, etc). Will eventually get a tiny tank-bred goby of some kind once I have finished making a mesh lid for the display. I love my VorTech, but the display on this tank is super small, so I'll be attempting to make do with just the return for flow. The stock return pump is weak as hell, but still manages to sound like a blender. I remember when Quiet One pumps were actually quiet. Anyway, I've ordered a Sicce Syncra Nano (110gph) and a loc-line diffuser, so we'll see how that goes. I ordered the Chamber One and Two Media Baskets along with the Filter Floss Holder for the Waterbox 7 off of inTank as they seemed to have the closest measurements the back chambers on this. Hopefully, with some tweaking I can find a solid combination of those for the back chamber set-up. Hello everyone! I briefly introduced my new pico reef the other day, but wasn’t sure where to post a journal at. A big thanks to The Rainy Day Aquarium for some solid advice on how to get this journal going! I have always wanted a miniature reef tank, or pico in my life. I think it’s the challenge of keeping parameters stable with such a small volume. Who doesn’t love a mini reef tank? Equipment -Lifegard Aquatics Crystal AIO 4.1 gallon with stock pump (surprisingly quiet) -Lifegard Aquatics 25watt heater -Kessil A360X with rigid mount -Ecotech MP10 on reef crest between 20-30% -filter floss -small amount of carbon in rear chamber I initially wanted to use the strainer vs. the drain plug on the tank, but couldn’t find a way for the strainer to fit properly. I had to lower the MP10 flow to between 20-30% to keep things flowing nicely without taking a beating, or overflowing the tank. The Kessil is a bit over powered for this tank, but I managed to keep my same settings from the 40, just increased the height of the light to about 12 inches vs. 7 on the 40. So far, everything seems to be responding well. I recently shut down my Nuvo 40 with anticipation of setting up my pico tank with the remaining corals leftover from a massive coral sale I had with my local reefing community. I managed to save some really nice pieces for this little project though. I am really happy with my livestock so far. Livestock -variety of zoas, including nirvanas, laser lemons, bowsers, sonic flares, playboy bunnies, and more -fire shrimp -trochus snail -blue legged hermit white morph RFA I plan to keep things as simple as can be, while testing major parameters at least once per week. Well, this is awkward. Long story short, my other DIY journal started to get a little cluttered with the beginnings of this build and I realized that it was quickly turning into just a regular build journal, so I figured as a last ditch effort to save a sinking ship I'd make THIS journal about the happenings of my other journal to keep that journal from becoming this journal that I now made. You follow? Hey everyone! I currently have a 2.5 gallon pico reef running, and just recently purchased a Lifegard Aquatics 8.3 gallon AIO aquarium (pictured here on the far left). Based on the size of the back compartment, I'd say the main portion of the aquarium is about 6-7 gallons. Before I add anything, I will be purchasing a glass cover and an LED light. With this in mind, I was wondering what would be some good invertebrates to showcase in this aquarium. I would be willing to do a species only setup, a biotope, or anything else that would be more interesting/unusual than the usual clownfish and cleaner shrimp. I have experience growing macroalgae, soft corals, and LPS, so I would most likely try to incorporate those into the setup as well. Any ideas would be great!

Hello everyone, For some time now I have been considering starting a pico reef tank with the sole focus on rock flower anemones. After recently stumbling upon this contest, it seems to me like there is no better time but now to get the ball rolling. I am super excited as this is my first contest and only my second tank after starting my first nano tank in May 2019. Since discovering this hobby, I have been fascinated by anemones but more specifically, rock flower anemones because of their appearance, endless variation of color, and the one of the only anemone species that can be kept in a pico or nano reef tank. My primary goal for this tank is to create a vibrant and colorful environment where rock flower anemones can spawn and reproduce. I do not know how difficult this is or if this is even possible in a pico tank but I hope to succeed at breeding them. System: Display: Lifegard Aquatics 3.8 Gallon Peninsula (14.17" x 7.87" x 7.87") Lighting: AI Prime HD Filteration: inTank Filter Floss Holder for Waterbox Cube 7 Heater: Archae 25W Circulation: Cobalt MJ606 Auto Top Off: XP Aqua Duetto Aquascape: I will be using live rock from GulfLiveRock.com and I will opt for a sand bed as I feel it is completely necessary for an environment catered to RFA's. I decided to go with a very simple aquascape with no overhangs or caves.
