I recently got a coco worm (Protula bispiralis) from my LFS. They convinced me that it’s easy to care for them and so I bought it. After doing more research I realized I really shouldn’t have bought it, as my tank is new and I’m relatively inexperienced. I’m wondering if any of you have experience caring for coco worms, specifically protula bispiralis, and if so, could you let me know? If you know anyone else who has cared for them, could you tag them in this post? I’d love to have a few people that I could contact and ask if (and when) I run into problems with my worm. My care regiment for it it has been feeding two or three times a week with either reef roids or two little fishies marine snow. I do weekly water changes, sometimes bi weekly. It seemed pretty happy for the first few days I had it, but now I find that it’s retracted about ~50% of the time that I see it (it’s possible that it’s out much more often than that, I’m just basing that number on when I walk by/look at the tank).

I don’t have a QT tank and I want to add my first fish... Am I safer getting a fish from my LFS or from an online source? Are there any particularly trustworthy online sources? I was thinking live Aquaria. Thoughts?

I started my new reef tank earlier this week (a fluval evo 13.5) and I added live rock, live sand (about 1.5 inches), and premium reef saltwater that my LFS mixed up for me. I’ve also been adding fluval cycle concentrated biological booster at the rate they suggest for a new tank. I have some questions regarding cycling. A lot of the videos I have watched online suggest first adding live rock, sand, and water, the next week adding a clean up crew, and then once the cycle is completed to add fish. However I’ve spoken on the phone with three of my LFSs and all three have told me to start my cycle by adding a fish. There is a lot of conflicting information out there, I was hoping that you guys could weigh in and give me some pros and cons with each option. If I decide to cycle with a fish, can I add a banggai cardinal fish? Additionally, when can I add coral?? This tank is primarily for coral, i'm just adding a fish or two for fun. A lot of articles that I have read say that I can add my coral now if I want, and that they won't be impacted by my tank cycling. Is this true? Lastly, if anyone has some suggestions on easy to care for corals, i'm always happy for more suggestions. Thanks so much!

Background : I had a salt aquarium 12 years ago, i enjoy it, spend too much but boy i learn some lesson ! The reason i stop back then it was because of the heat and i couldn't control the heat correctly (Metal Halide) without spending huge amount of money for a chiller, i felt so guilty to lose fish/coral and i decide to stop. So life goes on, and recently i started back with aquarium, fresh water, i love it, plants, green, is my stuff, i felt like i didn't have anymore challenge and it was time go back with salt water. I read a lot before starting and i finaly decide my plans. I will use this first message with current update of the aquarium. I just bought my first coral couple hour ago, but i didn't do the aquascape wich for me is a very big deal, i think i need some help to figure out the best visual scape possible visible through 3 side. Also my real light will come tommorow (AI Prime HD), for now i use time to time my Kessil 360 WE Tuna sun from my freshwater. my lfs is selling a Nuvo Nano 24 for quite cheap but i have heard story's about the tank having leaks. He said it was the redesigned model with 6mm glass also the item number is IM0602T if that helps. so does anyone know if its worth getting?

Visited a smaller a pet store chain today... their coral prices were ridiculously high. I mean $60-100+ for corals that looked in really poor condition and unhealthy. Their frags were also very expensive and some looked melted already. Kinda makes my LFS prices seem reasonable considering how better kept their corals are. I wanted to take pictures but one of the cashiers kept looking over at me; my look of horror probably gave me away

We all know bringing corals home from a pristine system and putting them in a poorly maintained system will cause all sorts of problems... and then we have a string of posts that go something like: OP - "My coral looks like it's dying" Reply - "what are your parameters?" OP - "I think it's dying please help" Multiple replies "what are your parameters!" OP - "I just dosed a bunch of part A and B formula and now everything else looks like it's dying" Reply "what are your parameters?" A WEEK LATER OP - "I keep moving my coral around and now I think it's dead and after continued dosing of random chemicals I have an algae outbreak and everything else is dying!!" Reply - "what are your parameters" ???? You get the picture!! The topic here is, bringing corals home from a poorly maintained system and putting into a pristine system that has plenty of thriving life. The reason I ask is, we a LFS that does not have climate control and EVeRYThING gets bleached out on the 90F-100F days but they still sell and then replace with more corals, then their UV sterilizer is out and they have "ordered one but it's $5000 so the owner might not order one for a few months because he can't make money since everything looks like crap, and then their chiller goes out and they have a bunch of "albino" corals. So you take a visit and they have something that catches your eye and clearly it's not in the best shape but they may have it priced where you can't turn it down..... then you take it home... I've had really good luck on even corals that have fallen behind rocks and died but I find them and glue them down and they flourish. Has a majority had good luck? Say taking a coral that's in a system with a 7PH and a 5dkh and putting them in a system with an 8Ph and a 9dkh? Taking a coral from a system that's low on any nutrient and placing it into your perfectly measured and maintained system? Thoughts welcome ?
