I just noticed these on the Blastomussa I've had for a few weeks, are they new polyps? If so, if there anyway to encourage their growth, I'm already feeding the big head Mysis shrimp a few times a week. Sorry the picture is kind of grainy, it was the best I could get on my cellphone.

I got a small purple montipora frag two weeks ago, I really want to get it to grow over my top rock, it seems to be healthy, the polyps are out, and the edges seem whiteish which I have read is a sign of growth. What conditions are best to promote healthy montipora growth? right now its getting a fair amount of light, and moderate flow, nitrates are around 2, and Ph. is 8.3. I'm not dosing anything, but right now this is my only piece of hard coral. Is there anything I should change/do differently to create the optima conditions?

Have you ever struggled with low PH? Has your coral growth slowed? Have you tried a CO2 scrubber yet? They work very well I assure you! I myself have been a victim of low PH especially in the summer and winter. You see at those times of year I have to keep my home closed up from the elements. I’d love to be able to open up all my windows all the time , but that’s just not realistic or possible with brutal Midwest heat and humidity. Let’s not even discuss bone chilling winters. Not everyone has all of the seasons I do but most of us have at least one time of the year that we can’t have our humble abodes open to the fresh air. This is exactly the time that CO2 scrubber comes in handy! So let me tell you my results with my first CO2 Scrubber. I was having a hard time maintaining 7.8-8.0 Ph on a daily diurnal swing. My coral growth had slowed, my alkalinity and calcium consumption had dropped dramatically and my tank just didn’t look right. Sound familiar?? The search was on for a solution, 😂 My mind begin to work! After some online searching I found some information about CO2 scrubbers . What’s this scrubber thing you speak of? What does it do? What’s the benefits? Well a Ph scrubber is basically a chamber or reactor that holds CO2media ( calcium hydroxide) and (sodium hydroxide). When you pass air laden with Carbon Dioxide through the reactor/scrubber media, the CO2 is absorbed by the media and fresh air continues on to your aquarium. This is generally done by connecting the air intake line of your skimmer to the reactor/scrubber. As CO2 is scrubbed out before fresh air is delivered to the aquarium your PH increases because your skimmer is no longer pumping CO2 laden air into the tank. Genius!! Let me show you a few pictures of what this looks like.😊 So we’ve gone over the basics of what a scrubber is , what it does , and what it helps with. Now we need to chat about one more important thing, the media. How do you know if the media is good? How do you know when it’s bad? How long does it last?.Glad you asked !! 😂 The media is white when it is fresh and in it’s sealed container. It won’t stay that way as it absorbs CO2. The IceCap media will turn Pink in color as it absorbs CO2. Once the media has sufficiently turned Pink it should be removed and discarded. If you leave the media in the scrubber after this point it could turn back to white, but it isn’t actually working any longer.Lets take a quick look at the media when it needs to be changed. At this point you can see the media has been sufficiently used and should be discarded.The time it takes for your to turn from white to pink will vary . Every aquarium and environment is different. Now what’s the point of all this? Well the end result of adding a CO2 Scrubber can substantially help with low PH. My PH now is sustained at 8.0-8.3 during my tanks diurnal swing. That’s a nice increase and my corals are much happier and are again growing wonderfully!

Thinking of buying a decent sized colony of Acan Echinata on sale at my LFS. Does anyone know how fast this coral grows? With/without feeding? Is it hard to care for? Basically any advice? Is it ok for someone with beginner to moderate experience with corals? (I’ve been keeping Monty Cap trumpets and frogspawn successfully for a few months)

I got this Acan frag a few days ago. Everything was fine, it was eating and looked good. Suddenly this morning, I noticed a fleshy, bubble looking growth on it. It was tiny so I didn't worry much and figured I would look into it once I got home from work. Once I got home, it was now much bigger. I can see what looks like the coral skeleton in it, but O am not sure if that is new, or if it was part of an existing head, but I feel it was the latter as there was a head there before the bubble showed up. Anyone know what this is? Should I be concerned about possibly losing my Acan? Should I worry about this also affecting my other corals (Hollywood Stunner Chalice, Copper Pavona, Green Birdsnest, Neon Green Ricordea, GSP, Blastomussa Merlitti)?

i got a one and a half inch frag of Xenia (a pulsing pom pom xenia) . I want it to grow so it covers the entire island rock which is not that large. Well grow big enough that it starts encrusting on the rock as i will be moving it to a larger tank in 2-3 months. how fast do they grow. is 2 months long enough for it to encrust on the rock? any ways to speed it.

Hi Nano-Reef world! I have had my tank since September 2017. My first coral was a pulsing Xenia I bought from my LFS. It was the size of my palm and had a little growth on it. Put it in my tank, and it just has gentrified and doubled in size. I am noticing that it has grown off of the rock that i bought it on and it is moving onto my live rock. I do know that it’s an aggressive grower and will take over, but should I start to pick off some of the pieces that grew by itself? Any ideas? I’ll attach pictures of when i bought them vs. today. Thanks all!

I found this thing growing on my rocks today. I think it came as a hitchhiker on my trochus snail shell. I had one growing on my snails shell and it looked like a clam or snail of some sort? It has a hard shell.

My snail has hair algae growing on him which I am working on getting off but he/she also has a reddish purple growth on the shell with what looks to be a hair strand coming out of it. .......... any ideas what this could be????

Hello all! I was wondering if I had to do anything in terms of maintenance for mushroom corals? I bought a mushroom rock about a month ago and the mushrooms on it have really grown and are covering most of the space on the rock (even overlapping one another), I was wondering if I should do anything, or can I just leave it as is?
