  2. Hey everyone! I am new to the forum and thought what better way to introduce myself than to start a journal for my nano! A little bit about me, I am a graduate student at the University of Michigan and will be graduating in 2019. I am originally from Chicago - hence the username! I have been in the hobby for about 10 years and have had tanks from FOWLRS to full blown reefs. I have always wanted to start a journal for one of my tanks but never really got around to it. As a graduate student this has made things a little more difficult. But I recently came across a deal I could not pass up that is perfect for my situation! The goal is to document everything in this thread. Let me introduce to you my new nano! It is an IM 10 gallon fusion with the following equipment: inTank Media basket (just made the switch from a custom IM media basket) MP10wes vortech Ghost Desktop skimmer Tunze nano ATO AI prime Cobalt heater with a finnex temp controller IM spin stream The tank currently has 2 clowns, a starry blenny and a mix of SPS and LPS. Here are a couple photos! Pardon my cell phone photos, I am working on getting a better camera.. Looking forward to meeting all of you! October 2019 - IM 25 gallon fusion: September 2018: May 2017:
  3. Hello N-R.com family, Welcome! If you are just joining us, please know this build thread is 2 tanks in 1 thread. Double the pleasure, double the fun. Over the course of the last 10 years, I've had a number of tanks with varied success, and I hope to put all the lessons learned from those tanks together in this build. Rules of the road: Simplicity is king. 15,000 pieces of equipment just create more opportunities for failure. I am going to do the basics, and I'm going to do them well. I will use automation and monitoring for safety and to make me aware of problems in the tank, but not depend on them for the survival of the tank. Some SPS. I like some SPS Corals, and I might try a frag or two that amuse me, but this tank will go back to my love of LPS, softies, and (hopefully) a clam. Fun, active, and healthy. I want my reef to thrive, the inhabitants to be healthy, and to have a tank that I can get lost staring at for hours. Red Sea Reefer 250 ZeoVit Fueled Mixed Reef Tank After 10 months, my mixed reef in the IM20 tank outgrew the space, so I decided to upgrade into a Red Sea Reefer 250, where I'll continue building upon the ZeoVit success I've had in the nano tank on a little larger scale. 👉Jump to page 5, where the Red Sea Reefer build starts 👉Or, keep reading and see where it came from Equipment Red Sea Reefer 250 (55 gallons) Kessil AP9X Light EchoTech Marine MP10 powerbeads (x2) Neptune COR return pump Clarisea roller mat for mechanical filtration Royal Exclusive 160 protein skimmer Neptune Apex EL Neptune DOS dosing pumps Neptune DOS reservoir Neptune Trident Neptune ATK (auto top off) Customized sump with redesigned plumbing Sapphire Aquatics 10g ATO Custom acrylic lid Modified stand iPad mini display ZeoVit dosing Livestock: Pair of Yasha Gobies Pistol Shrimp Cleaner Shrimp Peppermint Shrimp Blue Maxima Clam Aussie Golden Eye Chalice Branching Cyphastera Green Acans Purple Favia Rainbow Acans Watermelon Acans Weeping Willow Toadstool Orange Ricordia Mushrooms Misc. My EcoTech Radion Pro XR-30

I'm at the end of my rope. I have two perfectly working Gen 3 Radion Pro XR-30s. I've dropped 12 hours of my life trying to get this to work. The basics: - The lights (2) and reeflink are formerly owned. They have worked as of two days ago. - The reeflink has been reset and linked to my account - I have called tech support three times. The third gentleman told me that it's likely the devices or my cords (I have tried four different USB cords) are faulty. Which I know to be not true. - I have left a message to hopefully get somebody knowledgeable - I have tried the USB direct to my laptop using connection manager - I have uninstalled connection manager and attempted to use reeflink - Lights are detected on my computer as active devices - Ecosmartlive.com does not detect my lights but does detect my reeflink - I've attempted to reset my lights but have no idea if reeflink successfully did this - My lights work when I plug them in. I'm lost friends. If you have ideas, please let me know. I can't imagine calling back a helpdesk that thinks the reason is my USB cables (all four of them) are faulty. Or that there is a hardware problem. Questions I have: - are these lights still linked the previous owners account and therefore cannot be recognized? - what is the problem with connection manager on your laptop vs. using the online reeflink solution? - why the bleep isn't either light being discovered by either reeflink or directly from my computer? - Isn't shouldn't be this hard, should it? Seeking your great council oh universe.

    25 cube

Hello again nano reef! New FTS: It’s been about a year since I’ve been active with reefing, everything kind of fell apart after my 80g shallow build was put on hold due to a bit of oversight on my part.. (electrical issues 😅). After that my temporary/quarantine tank became my only tank and it wasn’t set up with that intention so I lost interest. I finally realized I had all this equipment lying around and here we are. I picked up an aquamaxx 25g cube and overflow and pulled some of the unused equipment out of the basement. Not the massive dream tank or the 80g but until I have a more stable situation this will work nicely! I’m just hoping I can get some real results this time around. I’ll be getting turbo start today, once cycled I’ll be transferring my fish, inverts, and surviving coral slowly to this tank along with my mp10 and nanobox mini. Still can’t decide if I want to seed the sump with my live rock.. there’s some bubble algae and aptasia for sure not sure what else. Please excuse the mess of cords, going to try and build a little cabinet to go to the left of the sump to hide those and various tools/fish food. Thanks for reading!
  8. Hello fine folks of the internet. Here I am yet again with ANOTHER build. I rashly decided to sell my 78g and 65g and upgrade to something 120g and up. I ended up buying a 150g blah blah blah long story short, I messed up. Rushed things, ended up tankless. After my fish sat in rubbermaid totes for about 3 months, something happened. I did a large water change and overnight ALL my fish died. This was a nightmare, I was distraught. I did realize the next day that my large Clarkii clownfish Big Mama survived. After debating on selling her for a while I decided to get her a home. That brings us to where we are now. A 40 gallon breeder. As some of you may now my last 40B won TOTM last October. I loved that tank and everything about it. That's how I landed back into a 40B. Things will be a bit different this time. I am taking my sweet sweet time setting it up and buying equipment that will last. Equipment List: Lighting: 2x Ecotech Radion XR30W Pro Flow: Sicce Syncra 3.0 Return and Ecotech MP10 Heater: 200w Jaeger Controller: Neptune Apex EL Skimmer: Nyos Quantum Overflow: Eshopps Eclipse Sump: Acrylic Sump ATO: Tunze Osmolator Rock/Sand: Caribsea LifeRock and Aragonite Livestock Plans: Other than Big Mama and her carpet anemone. I plan on stocking this tank solely with Montipora. No softies, no lps. ONLY Montipora. As far as fish go, I want a blue spot jawfish, something to sift the sand, and a bunch of damsels that can stand up to big mama. Ill attach some pictures today. I still have a lot of the equipment to buy. I plan on having water in the tank within the next 4-6 weeks. Happy Reefing, thanks for looking..

    A WARNING ABOUT AQUAILLUMINATION

Three weeks ago, I purchased an AI Prime, with the Flex mount from my LFS in Montreal, QC Canada. A few days ago the Allen key screw dislodged, making the arm unstable, so I contacted AquaIllumination, and they told me to go to the store where I purchased from, and they would deal with the distributor. I went to the store , and they told me AquaIllumination considers this physical damage and would not replace it. So I would need to buy another mount. This is in no way the LFS fault, this falls on the hands of AquaIllumination... The product is new, and clearly defective, but they refuse to handle the issue. Many other people have issues with their flex mounts as well, It is poor quality, and the customer service along with it is awful. Needless to say I will not be buying from AquaIllumination again.
  10. See blue arrows for screws to remove. This is a gen 1 or 2 pro with gen 3 upgrade, your radion may very. Do not do this tear down with out an antistatic mat, if you're clumsy, and IF you're still in warranty send it back to Ecotech. Also if you're fan is Hella loud or if your unit is running hot take the time to use a stiff bristle brush and clean out the dust/salt creep.

    Piece of Paradise

Hello Everyone, Background: I have kept multiple tanks over the years. Started small and worked up to a 300 gallon FOWLR tank that was recently torn down due to selling my house. For the time being, I am renting a small town house until we build a new house. The wife said I could have a small tank....Game On. I've always kept FOWLR tanks and have been really wanting to set up Reef Tank. I have a feeling I will have a bunch of questions pertaining to reef keeping. Now on to the good stuff. MP10 or Tunze 6055?

Would a mp10 or 6055 be better for a nuvo 20 mixed reef?
  16. Started this tank on March 30, 2017 with stock pump and filter sock, koralia nano from previous tank, and 5 lb of LR, and about 8.5 gallons of saltwater to start. The tank is almost a year old now and some upgrades have happened. (will take some better pics with the camera later) Equipment -IM Ti ATO (going to tunze nano ato) -Ran a kessil a80 for 11 months before going to a radion (diffusion kit/rm -Jbj 1/15 hp Chiller with 1.0 return -Sicce 0.5 return - inTank Media rack with 2 filer floss on top, seachem matrix, bottom two filter flosses -inTank universal media skimmer -was running a IM desktop Media Reactor with carbon but since the RMS mount is fairly big i had to remove the reactor (don't mind that because its freaking study!) So in turn I have a Fudge basket that I might run with more matrix in it if the tunze 9001 doesnt work out (coming) -MP10 wQD -inTank Frag rock (2) - 5 lb LR -3 lb Sand (going to take down to less lb's till its barley covered probably -Cobalt Aquatics Neotherm 100w heater - 6.5 chemipure Live Stock: - Rainbow Acans - Duncans - Walking Aussie Duncan - Purple Tipped Frogspawn - Young Maxima Clam - Rock anemone -3 nassarius snails -3 Trochus Snail -3 Aussie young scolymia/s? LOL -Side plant is one of 3 succulents I got at a baby shower and decided to try to grow it under the XR-15 instead of my bedroom window lol, so if they switch out ever that why. Let me know if you have any thoughts on the tank! Plan on upgrading to a Lagoon 25 at some point this year I hope!
  17. Hey all, question regarding coloration/“pop” improvement with Ecotech Radion upgrade options.I’ve been running a G1 Radion for something like 6 years over my 34 gallon Solana. I’m pretty satisfied with output, and the spread is acceptable, corals grow fine, so no real “problems.” But I’ve never loved the coloration it gives my tanks, compared to what I’ve seen on other tanks with different LED’s or newer Radions. So I’m considering an upgrade. Obviously the most affordable option is to send in the one I already own for Ecotech to upgrade to the G3. And of course since I’m thinking about it, I’ve also been checking out the G4 and G4 pro. I don’t need the G4pro for the increased output, but I do like the idea of more color channels. What I want to know is: is it worth the upgrade (any of them) in terms of visual appeal and making colors pop? Will I see a noticeable difference from G1 to G3? Is G4 way better than G3 (aesthetically)? Has anyone made any of these leaps and can talk to how the corals appear under the improved spectrum? Will the G3 upgrade be enough to see that new “pop”? Is the G4Pro way better than the regular G4 in terms of color/“pop”?I’d love some first-hand experiences with this. Thanks!
  18. As the title says, if you’re getting rid of your ECOTECH backup battery, instead if tossing it in the trash. Message me and I’ll gladly take it. I just need 2 by the way. Hopefully you’re just around SoCal 92354 so I can pick it up. Thanks!
  19. Hey guys, looking for some input on people’s thoughts on lighting a 12” deep, 18” x 18” cube for predominantly sps. I am am torn between an AI prime HD and an XR15 pro gen 4. I understand that the XR15 highly out guns the prime, but I am intrigued about the power the prime HD can produce. As I said it is going to be predominantly sps frags growing out with some lps. Has anyone had any positive results running the prime hd with sps 10” - 12” below the surface using the prime HD rear mounting kit? Anyone think the XR15 is going to be overkill for the size of the tank?

  24. Hello all, CURRENT FTS: I'm new to the hobby of saltwater aquariums and wanted to share the progression of my build with you all! I've done freshwater planted tanks in the past and finally made the decision to play in the big leagues and start a reef tank! Here is my equipment list so far: ADA 60F 8.6 Gallon rimless aqaurium 30 gallon DIY sump with refugium and liverock sections Mame medium sized overflow Eshopps Eclipse Overflow Box (small) Kessil A160WE 40W LED Light DIY Protein skimmer Bubble Magus Curve 5 Protein Skimmer 36W LED Grow light for Refugium Top Fin circulation pump Ecotech Mp10 Koolermax AR-122 6-stage RO+DI Quietpro 1.2 Controlled Pump DIY float valve auto top off Jebao dosing pump Since I live near the coast in Southern California, I will be using mostly natural seawater filtered through filter floss and activated carbon for my water changes (except for after rainstorms when runoff destroys the water quality). I cant wait to have the tank up and running! There are many pictures to come so stay tuned! (Yes, I know the filter sock is the complete wrong size)
