  1. 4 month update after lighting upgrade to stock hood: May 13, 2018: SPS growing really nicely! Thicker & better coloration too! Compare these pictures to the older ones. Update: January 22, 2018: Upgrades: - Aquamai KPS Wavemaker - Current USA 12" Truelumen Pro LED bars (x2) and 10" LED strips (x2). This is in addition to the stock Fluval light. Total wattage 40.2 watts - Current USA Single, Dual and Dual Pro Ramp Timers - Smart ATO Micro Auto Top-off System - Aquatic Life 115 Protein Skimmer - inTank Chamber 2 Media Basket - Inkbird Aquarium Dual Stage Temperature Controller + NTC Sensor - Hydor Centrifugal Pump 300gph (it's not much stronger than stock pump, although smaller) - Green Killing Machine Mini 3W UV - Fluval Edge 25W heater (The room is fairly warm all year so don't really need much heating) Filter Media: Purigen, Matrix, inTank Poly Filter Floss --- March 4th, Day 1, tank goes live & cycling: April 5th, one month after: It's been a bit over a month since I setup this tank and it's my very first reef tank. I've been in the freshwater world for over a decade (currently have a 55g Discus tank) and decided to take the plunge and setup a reef. I'm running the stock lighting for now and it seems pretty decent. Even my SPS are starting to show new growth although the coloration isn't too good. Here are the additions/upgrades I've done so far: - Fluval P2 Protein Skimmer - Hydor Koralia Nano 425gph - Hydor Centrifugal Pump 300gph (it's not much stronger than stock pump, although smaller) - Green Killing Machine Mini 3W UV - Fluval Edge 25W heater (The room is fairly warm all year so don't really need much heating) Filter media: Purigen and Phosguard I got 17 different corals (mostly frags) right now including quite a few SPS. Cleanup crew consists of 5 snails, 3 hermit crabs, emerald crab and a blood red fire shrimp. And an acid rain bubble tip Anemone!
  2. New to nano-reef and looking for some advice from anyone with experience using the Current USA Orbit Marine IC Pro Dual LED 24-36 in. I’m in the process of setting up an IM Nuvo Fusion 20g. This is my first tank after taking a +10 year hiatus and my plan is to start out and keep easier to maintain soft and LPS corals, no imminent plans to keep SPS, but maybe in the future. In researching this light, which includes 2 fixtures, it seems to have PAR ratings that would be more than adequate and the coverage would be ideal for the footprint of this tank since almost all of the 24 in width would be lite (https://current-usa.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/Orbit-PAR-Measurements-1.pdf). In addition to providing a decent light source that will grow LPS corals, my other primary goal is to reduce light spill. My tank is going to be in a main room and I have 2 small children, so I’m a bit worried about having a light mounted high above the tank with the little ones looking up at it. This is where these lights also seem to be a great fit since their included mounts place the light directly above the water, while still covering the full tank. Most of the reviews I’ve seen seem to be focused on older and less powerful models from Current. These seem to have the power and PAR needed to grow any LPS and probably some SPS in the top half of the tank. Downside is that the controller is just Bluetooth and not WiFi, but I think I can live with that. I like the AI prime HDs as well, but to get what I want I think I’ll need 2 of them which is going to be way too much power for a tank of this size. Also like the Nanobox Duo, but not sure it will cover as good as these when mounted a couple of inches above the water surface. Anyone have success with these? What am I missing? Is the disco effect terrible on these? Any thoughts are appreciated. Thank you in advance.

    Need help with my lighting

In short my issue is that do I have enough lighting for my tank? Here is what I am currently using: Tank Dimensions: 12w x 12h x 36l Current Orbit Marine LED 36-48"Â Model: 4102 Â Specs:Â Â How the light sits on my kitchen counter: (blue square, is my tank, and red thin strip is my led light) Par data: Â So currently my par is pretty week as far as the low stuff on the floor is concerned, though I don't have anything at the 21-24" range. Most of the stuff I have sits roughly at 12-18" in the water. Any suggestions on me installing more light without having to get rid of this current (no pun) current one? Â Or should I just scrap the whole clean/thin design and mount a kessil or something? Â

  15. So upgraded the stock lights on the Fluval EVO 13.5 to Current USA Orbit Marine LED. I was then thinking if it was a good idea to run the stock Fluval EVO lights as well (maybe just on blue). The EVO has 31 LEDs at 16w and the Orbit Marine has 72 LEDs at 18w. I did notice that the Fluval lights are much brighter (Not sure what this means in terms of output). The EVO measures 22", 15" deep, and 11" wide. I currently have the Orbit about 4-5 inches from the surface. The stock EVO light used to sit about 2-3 inches from the surface. These are the PAR rating for the Marine Orbit. I couldn't find PAR readings for the Fluval EVO stock light from the manufacturer; I did read a post on another reef forum where someone measured the PAR around 225 at the surface. Has anyone tried this? This is just stuff that I am thinking about.
