In the last 4 years, my 20g tank has logged more than 2,000 miles in 5 different moves, has visited 8 different states, and two of those moves were half way across the country. Needless to say, this has taken quite a toll on the tank. It's been up and running in some state for some eight years now, and finally has a permanent home now that we've bought a house. With any luck, things will flourish, uninterrupted. SPS have been back in the tank a few months now and am hoping I won't have to sell them off and move again like I usually have to do! Equipment: Tank: Standard Petco $20 20g Tall - 24x12x16. Lighting: Radion XR30 Pro (G1) with upgraded wide-angle lenses @ 45% (Schedule: https://pastebin.com/c1PYMT4y) Flow: 1x MP10 and return pump @ 100% in Yellow Mode Sump: DIY 10g Standard Petco $10 10g - 20x10x12 with 2 chambers Skimmer: Bubble Magus C3.5, offline for months and my coral is loving the extra delicious organics ATO: Avast Marine with Aqualifter Temperature: Ranco 111000 Inkbird Controller connected to old titanium heater Overflow: HOB CPR CS50 with Aqualifter siphon and DIY float valve relay on return to prevent accidents Dosing: 1/4 - 1/3 gallon of 27.5% 42% saturated Kalk in RODI per day. Keeps Alk between 8.4 and 9.2 over the course of about 20 days., between 6 and 7 to slow down growth to make it manageable. Live Stock: Fish: 2x Percula Clowns and one Hoeven's/Melanurus Wrasse Coral: Acros, Montis, Acans, Favia, Stylo, Birdsnest, Merulina, Blastos, Chalice, Platygyra, Ricordea, Zoas, Palys Nems: Two RBTAs (mother and baby), 2x Mini-Maxis Everything has been set up for ease of maintenance and being able to run for a week if I'm travelling since the amount of time I have to dedicate to my reef comes and goes - after 8 years, I just want it to be as simple as I can get - no more experimenting with gadgets or fads, just simple, basic husbandry. It seems the only time I am working on my reef these days between work, climbing when it's warm and snowboarding when it's cold is when the weather is crappy and I'm stuck inside. Hello everyone! Decided to join and make a nano reef forum in order to keep track of my own tank progression while sharing with everyone. Hopefully I can get some great advice as well as pass some along.So far one of my favorite parts about this hobby is the seemingly endless knowledge that I have to learn and the fact that I have a piece of the ocean in my living room. A little bit about myself and my tank: I am new to the salt water community and this is my first saltwater tank. I’m super excited to watch it grow and see how long I can keep it up and healthy. I picked up my tank from my best friend who has had it up and running for many years. He had stripped it clean and just left the live rock in the water for months before I got it from him. I’m fighting the urge to let the tank grow before upgrading...hopefully will be able to last a couple years…I have SO much learning to do. Hello all, I'm new to the saltwater hobby and I've set up a 13.5 Evo tank. It's been up and running for a little over a week now. Today I introduced two clowns, a peppermint shrimp, and two hermit crabs. I've checked water parameters and everything seems alright. Everyone is settling in well except for one clown. I am slightly concerned about how it is swimming. It has been swimming vertically most of the time...almost like it is trying to reach the top of the tank. Not sure what is going on, so reaching out to the forum for some help. I've attached some pics and some videos I took (the last two I captured from my night vision camera). My saddleback clownfish hosts a condy anemone. She also hosts a bubble tip, but she definitely prefers the condy. I wasn't expecting my clown to take any interest in the condy but she proved me wrong 🙂

HOW I STARTED MY FIRST SALTWATER TANK Hello! And welcome to my first ever saltwater tank! I chose a 29G tank because it fit perfectly in my home office. I'll list more information about my tank specs at the bottom on this thread, so feel free to skip ahead if you don't need to learn from my very n00b mistakes 😄 TANK AGE: I started my tank Mar 10 2021, and added fish pretty quickly since I used both live rock and water from a local aquarium shop that did my tank installation & setup. Everything on the tests were fine, and correct bacteria dosage was added as a precautionary supplement. Tank status the morning before the first TEV: 2 juvenile Black Snowflake Clowns (was trying to pair, different sizes), 1 Sailfin Tang, 1 Green Polyp XS TANK TEVS (tank events) 1. The Seaweed Mishap I knew Tangs liked seaweed. I gave my tang Cheese a little too much seaweed. He tore it apart and it got everywhere. I didn't know what to do. I grew up in Monterey, CA. Seaweed is everywhere. Everything seemed fine. But no, this was dried seaweed. And you're not supposed to leave it in for more than 2-3 hours (I think don't trust me on this pls). This messed with my nitrate levels pretty bad. I really wanted to add another coral to my tank. I was TOO EAGER. 2. The Maintenance Day of Doom Oh boy was I so unaware of what was yet to come. I brought water to be tested at my other local fish store so that I knew it was safe to buy a coral. They told me I needed water changes. CHANGES yes, I too almost underestimated how many changes I was going to need. But more on that later, lets first start with my first ever water change. I drained 20% of the water, then added in ROI (is that the acronym? I'm hard of hearing and its so hard to hear the employees at the shop when they speak through their mask) water and to dilute the salinity and some of the nitrates. I let it run for ~ 1 hour to let all that "good-good" mix around with the water. Then I drained the tank again 50% and added more water. But I was foolish and did it by myself. And didn't use my hand. The water splashed....everywhere...it was so cloudy.. 3. Death Roe The unenthusiastic clownfish that was forced to become the male died first. He was weak because they were fighting for their first day (a couple weeks prior). A day later the female clown died. My Tang then came down with really bad ich. He died the next day as well. My Green Polyp was the only guy to survive. 3 water changes and 1 week later, I added 2 blue chromis to get some poop in there... but they died. It is because I bought them at petsmart. It was a bad batch. Don't recommend. Since then, I upgraded the filter, heater, thermometer, protein skimmer, and light. So it is basically like a brand new tank. Most of the gear is controlled by wifi automatically I love it so much. It is so worth the money if you want a low stress tank. I also got some really healthy live rock teaming with all kinds of healthy organisms from another local aquarium shop. My new fully paired clownfish are also doing very well. I have another cool coral frag that I will share about later. There is a BUNCH of tank drama around this coral at night. It is so fun to watch! Don't worry all this "drama" is literally just an ecosystem with a food chain. In the ocean, each species has its own way of protecting itself, and thats no different in this tank! The fish stay out of it, and the coral benefit from the organisms fighting over the seaweed. TODO: I will get to this things soon! Ok, so I set up my tank Jan 1, 2019 it is a little over a year old. I have had a lot of losses, but I am still going!!! I have decided to make a journal to kinda keep track of my progress. Is there any fish that can go with a pair of clowns in a 10g?

I've finally got my 10g saltwater tank set up and I plan on getting a pair of clownfish and I've seen conflicting statements on if other fish are possible Also if anyone sees this what inverts yall would recomend I'm very excited about starting saltwater -

My new Mocha Clownfish has some white fuzz near his (or her) gill. i just got the pair about a week ago and they seemed fine but today i woke up with the fuzz on it. Brooklynella?

Our biocube29 redux has been going well except for a GHA outbreak. Tried scrubbing the rocks with a metal brush, 35% peroxide, nutrient control, but this stuff just kept spreading. So I tried Reef Flux on July 9. Within 10 days the GHA was in retreat. At 14 days I did a water change and added 1/2 cap more to keep levels up. Now on day 17 almost all GHA gone, just 3 patches left that are only 1/16th inch long instead of the 1+ inch long that had almost overtaken the largest rocks. Now for the unexpected part - on day 11, the large facial "benign tumor" on my over 6 year old female clown, Ilsa, was half gone. All of the white ragged portion was simply gone. I waited to see if she had somehow just scraped it off, but 6 days later just the orange ragged base remains. She began developing this 2 1/2 years ago, was treated with every medicine & combo known to fishdom, but nothing worked and it had slowly grown larger, never shrinking. This morning she actually laid eggs for the first time since the "tumor" began. Sadly, husband Rick decided to eat them instead of fertilizing them, but hey, he is out of practice. Anyway, thought it interesting. Will be watching closely to see if the lump continues to abate with the Reef Flux still in the system.

So I know this has come up countless times in the past, but I'm trying to get a little more of a gameplan... The She (about 1.5-1.75" Phantom ocellaris currently in breeder box jail): The He (about 1"-1.125" Snowflake ocellaris currently free in tank): So I am trying to get an idea of the following: Does the Phantom (bigger and apparently more aggressive) belong in jail? Or should I put the smaller injured Snowflake into isolation? How long do people recommend to keep them separated? So far it's the second day of separation. Is it better to separate for a long period and reintroduce, or do it multiple times for shorter jail time? How long do tail fins take to heal up? I imagine it would not be worth waiting that long to reintroduce the Phantom.

So my new tank is cycled and has a small cuc already. 10 hermits, 5 turbo snails, and a couple of nassarius snails. I am going to add my first fish in about a week or so. I want to get a pair of clowns (1 black and white and 1 regular ocellaris). A purple firefish. and some sort of Blenny or goby (possibly 2?) its a 20 gallon tank. (Yellow watchman, clown goby, court jester, bicolor, tailspot???) Not sure yet Lol. The pair of clowns are a must, but i am up for suggestions on firefish, blennies, and gobies. I dont want to over stock either, so please let me know what your suggestions are. I would like to get clowns first, but if its a problem then obviously not. Let me know your suggestions please, I am new to this.

Hey-Have a Cichlid tank that was doing well, so I wanted to try my hand at a saltwater tank. Not sure if we are headed in the right direction or not? Was hoping for opinions, constructive criticism or whatever just please keep it to ideas that will improve the quality of life for the tank. It's a 15 gallon tank. (I personally think the 15gal should be the quarantine tank and use the larger 40gal tank as the "Ta-da-da Tank" , the "aren't you so jealous of my absolutely gorgeous aquarium tank?" . But he thinks that is aiming a little too big, so here we are... Compromising with a 15)".I am just learning about all this; lighting, coral, flow, zooplankton, etc. So please tell me if I havethings that aren't compatible or if something else would work better.But a CoraLife T5 light, but it's just white so there is also a blue LED light.Just the regular filter that came with the tank, I was unsure if I would need a better one if I got a protein skimmer, but some have said such a small tank doesn't need a protein skimmer.The small heater that came with the tank. I live in Central CA, and the heater has kept the water 77-78.6. Check it 2x a day along with the SG which is staying between 1.0228-1.0247. I have not checked the PH, nitrates or nitrites. However, I take watersamples to the Aquarium Store and he tests the water weekly and says consistently good. Everything I have read online says to start with rock then a clean up crew so there is dry rockstacked in there. Then we added some crabs and snails. When they did good, we added a couple more and two of the most beautiful little perculas (Bruce and Nemo). I am thinking a Red Dragonette but have since been informed of their difficulty. So maybe just a scooter blenny and some coral. I have never tried to raise coral before so I think I should start with Toadstool. It's not my favorite, but they say it is hardy and if I can get it to thrive maybe a birds nest and go from there. I guess I am just not sure how many crabs, lobsters, snails and fish can go in the tank. I know not many that's why I want the larger tank I would love a Mandarin gooby or a tang. But I want tank inhabitants quality of life to be what's on the forefront, not how many differentcolors I can fit in my computer desk tank.But any questions just ask.
