  1. If you read the title, I am not paraphrasing. I've had this duncan colony for roughly 2 years, and for more than 6 months, this coral has not opened or even come close to fully opening during this time span. The coral has been through two different tanks (a jbj 28g LED nano cube and then transferred to a jbj 45 gallon). I've tried changing light parameters, water parameters, positions, flow (all within large spans of time because quick changes can shock the coral) but I've had little results. The closest I've gotten to "open" was a slight protrusion from the skeleton, with a few tentacles showing up (Happened after a water change, so there is something in the water that is bothering it in my opinion.) I've also noticed a few aiptasia anemones appearing, so I'm wondering if one is wedged underneath the coral and is stinging it. The flesh of the coral still looks good, full neon green color. I'll post a photo of the colony a little later, and I'll list my current parameters (Currently high because I've been changing my dosing amounts in accordance with the duncan, only been doing this for roughly 3 weeks), as well as my tankmates, equipment, etc. Any help would be appreciated, and thanks for stopping by. Tankmates: 1 Bonded pair of Clownfish (Ocellaris & Black Photon) 1 Yellow tail damsel Various crabs & snails 1 large green/red trachyphillia 1 large elegance coral 2 small acan colonies 1 large kenya tree 5 blue mushroom colony 1 green/purple tip bubble anemone 1 medium frogspawn colony Equipment: 45 Gallon JBJ cube tank Radion XR15 (set to 60% max light, fast growth standard setting, primarily a blue spectrum) Aquamaxx HOB skimmer Dosing 2 Part B-ionic & Magnesium (currently changing dosing, but most recent schedule is 2ml of both calcium & alkalinity parts 3 times a day every 3 days) Basic ceramic rings, sponge, bio ball mechanical filtration. 2 - 264 gph pumps Parameters: Temperature: 78 Fahrenheit Salinity: 1.026 pH: 8.3 Calcium: 490 Alkalinity: 8.9 Magnesium: 1290 Nitrates: <.25 Phosphates: ~0 Ammonia: 0

    Leopard wrasse care

Hi all. ive been trying to plan fish for my 32 gal bio cube. I think a leopard wrasse would be awesome but some places say they’re really hard to care for. Why is that? Do they eat pellet/flake food or need live pods? Also some places say they’re listed as difficult because they struggle to survive shipping. Are they hardy once acclimated?

Acan Echinata: How fast does it grow?

Thinking of buying a decent sized colony of Acan Echinata on sale at my LFS. Does anyone know how fast this coral grows? With/without feeding? Is it hard to care for? Basically any advice? Is it ok for someone with beginner to moderate experience with corals? (I’ve been keeping Monty Cap trumpets and frogspawn successfully for a few months)

    Montipora Digitata polyp extension question

I recently got my first SPS frag, a blueish Montipora Digitata. Now, with my other corals, I could get a decent enough idea if they were happy or not concerning flow and lighting for example, because their response was quite obvious and quick (Euphyllia and Rhodactis for example). However, this being my first SPS, I am not so sure, so I figured I'd make a small thread, hoping you guys and girls could help me out. As for my parameters, I measured these this morning and the frag is in my system for about a week; Ammonia: 0ppm Nitrite: 0ppm Nitrate: ~3ppm Phosphate test kit is on its way PH: 8.2 dKH: 11.3 Calcium: 475 Lighting: AI Prime HD on a somewhat customized AB+ schedule and on an acclimation period until February 23 Flow: return nozzle and Aqamai KPS Left side view right side view Close up (crop) where the polyps seem to extend the most I am not entirely sure yet about the placement, because I see a lot of shading/dark sides on the frag, which is a result of the shape as well. I am also wondering if I could accidentally burn it, having it so high up on the rocks, that's why I put the Prime on an acclimation period though. Last but not least, my apologies for the quality of the images. They were made with my phone, yet I am looking to buy a filter and magnifier soon, because I really enjoy taking pictures of the frags and how they're evolving/growing. What do you guys and girls think? Polyp extension alright, or no? Anything I could or should change, any feedback is much appreciated! Bonus question, is it normal to tweak that much in the early stages of having a reef aquarium? I just can't seem to let it be, instead, I am wondering if the light schedule is alright, what about the placement of the frags....Flow, wondering if the return nozzle is aimed alright and the KPS schedule is decent enough....Oooh, how about the turnover rate? 🤦‍♂️ (I am really enjoying it though, don't get me wrong, haha!)

    Hammer Coral not opening

Hello All! I recently purchased a 2-headed hammer coral frag from a local LFS that I thought would be a perfect addition to my tank. I've had poor luck with hammer corals in the past, as a frag I purchased months ago died within the first 48 hours of purchase. My parameters and every other coral in the tank were fine at that time, so I thought I was just dealt a bad hand. With regards to the frag I want to talk about in this post, I've had this frag for roughly 5 days, and it just doesn't want to open. The flesh doesn't appear to be deteriorating, but the mouths of the coral are agape and just doesn't appear to be in good health. Any help with regards to possible insight and solutions would be greatly appreciated. Tank specs and other inhabitants listed below. Thanks everyone! Tank: JbJ 28 gallon LED nanocube Flow: 2-266 gph pumps (connected to wavemaker that alternates pumps every 30 seconds) Light: 25W of 14K LEDs w/ 4W moonlight LEDs (meant for low-moderate light specs) Parameters: Salinity - 1.026 P.H - 8.2 Calcium - 430ppm KH - 170ppm Nitrate - 0 Nitrite - 0 Ammonia - 0 Phosphates - between 0 and .25 ppm (All parameters except salinity were measured with API kits) Fish: 1 Percula clownfish & 1 Photon Clownfish (Bonded) 1 Male Mandarin Goby 1 Yellowtail Damselfish 1 Purple Dartfish Coral/Invertebrates: Toadstool Leather Elegance Coral Red/Green Trachyphyllia Kenya Tree Coral Pink-tip green bubble anenome various polyps and zoanthids (honestly don't know all of the names) green-tipped pocillopora (hitchhiker frag with green-star polyps, has grown well) I also have a few photos posted of the tank itself and the hammer coral in question

    Dwarf Seahorse Care Questions

Hello. I'm very excited because after years of grueling reaserch I think I've finally found a dwarf seahorse design I think will work for these guys.Tank: tall ,10 gallons with a sponge filterFood: Baby brine shrimp (enriched) Hatched daily out of 4 soda bottle hatcheriesDecorations: Sand, ?macroalge and artificial decorThe enite tank will be treated with panceurI was thinking about getting 3 pairs of DSH's and some type of clean up crew. I'd appreciate advice from an expirenced dwarf keeper in regards to what type of clean up crew works best.I was thinking probably narcissus snails.I'd of course do everything very slowly and cycle my tank. Thank you for your imput.

    Am I doing this right?

Hi everyone new to the hobby been in it almost 2 months now. SUper excited and im obsessedddddd. Recently got a bunch of coral over the span of 2 weeks and everything is doing AWESOME. But I have a couple questions... Salt hovers around... 1.025-1.026 Water temperature hovers around... 78/79 usually 79.2 to be exact. Lights... Radeon XR15W Pro Gen 4 running the Coral Lab template SPS PHX 14 with greens and reds at 5% from 9AM to 6PM Corals I have are.. Trumpet Coral Favia Acan Ricordea Zoas Blastomussa Kenya Tree Discoma mushroom Alveopora And some type of encrusting coral Im currently spot feeding all my corals every Wednesday/Sunday with all pumps off. Their diet consist of.. A half a tablespoon reef-roids mixed with gut loaded bring shrimp, I squish it just enough for the coral to eat. (Spot fed using 11ML syringe) 5ML of Aquavitro Fuel Red Sea Reef Energy A/B 2.5ML (Just started it today) Poseidon Fury (3,000) OceanMagik Live Phytoplankton (4 species) Nano Brine Live Baby Artemia (500) Not sure what else im missing... Edit: I have a Nuvo 40G, I added refugium into one of my chambers with Cheato, and live rock. Hopefully the Copapods do the dirty in there and replicate! Edit:: Refugium has been going for 2 weeks. Today I added the Copapods. (Cheato is growing)

    AquaOne Nano 40 Stocking???

So, Recently my 6 line wrasse unfortunately died thanks to a spike in my nitrates... This has all been sorted now and many more precautions have been taken to ensure that this is not something that is likely to happen again at all. However, I now have no idea on what I actually want to stock this tank with? I am not a new hobbyist, and I have been keeping marine fish for about 4 years now, with many different tanks.. So I am rather stumped on what to add to this tank... So far I have some Xenia, Hammers, Duncans, A Featherduster & some leathers (Kenya Trees & Toadstools). I am looking to add quite a bit more coral wise to make the tank look like a little reef. But don't know what fish to add! Any advice or comments are appreciated.

Is my Hammer Coral healthy and happy?

Hey! l have had an ORA Wall Pink Hammer Coral for a couple weeks now and I have had it in two locations: on top of rock work with more flow and now I have the hammer on the bottom of tank with low flow. l am new to reefing in general and do not know how to tell if my coral is happy and healthy, since every coral is different. Some of the smaller tentacles on my hammer have small curls in them and l am just concerned. Also, the hammer coral’s tenticles look spread out instead of compact like other hammer’s l have seen. Please give me some feedback. The hammer comes out everyday and never stays retracted, which makes me feel he is just fine! l will be upgrading to a Kessil 160w light eventually. Thanks!! For my tank details: - 20 gallon - Dual Marineland biowheel filter - 500 GPH power head - Clownfish, damsel, chromi fish - Frogspawn and Zoa Coral - Live sand - 2 Marineland LED Lights Tank was established and cycled until levels were at zero before adding anything. Cycling took 21 days before anything was added. l cycled with the product Stability and my water is tested every day. Water temp is kept at 74 with salinity of .022. The tank has been up for almost two months now.
