  1. So, after finishing brushing off my macros and doing a half gallon water change (I was bored...) I've decided that I need an official tank thread instead of just sorta asking a bunch of questions in different threads around the site. Hopefully this'll do the trick! Basically, this is a standard 10 gallon tank that's currently housing my macroalgae and my Valentini Puffer. I'm using this tank as a QT tank (dead rock, cycled filter media) as well as a holding tank for my macros as I move tanks around to make room for upgrades. This entire system will move up to a standard 29 as soon as the QT period is over (and as soon as I finish repairing the 29), and the plan is to slowly gather equipment in the meantime. I'm working in an Italian restaurant until classes start, and hopefully I'll be getting something better. For now, I'll basically be funding my aquarium hobby (addiction?) with a portion of my paycheck and tips, so progress might be a bit slow. Progress is progress, though, right? Equipment (as of 6/15/2019): Standard 10 Gallon Glass Aquarium AquaClear 50 HOB Filter Preset Tetra 50W Heater 2 Daylight PAR 20's in a janky fixture Livestock (as of 6/15/2019): Fish: Valentini Puffer Inverts: Blue-legged Hermit Crab (for hunting purposes) Macros: Codium sp. Dragon's Breath Caulerpa Racemosa Pel. Caulerpa Mexicana (?) Mermaid's Fan (?) The next thing I'm upgrading is probably going to be the heater (to a 150W Aqueon adjustable heater), as the current heater keeps the tank around 75. Not the end of the world, but I'd prefer the tank to run between 78-80. After that, I'm looking at lighting, as the PAR 20's are a bit weak. I'm getting growth and color, just not as much as I'd like (and this light won't cut it for some of the macros I'll be keeping in the future). So, I'm looking at using two of these PAR 38's over the 10 gallon (https://www.amazon.com/Philips-LED-Non-Dimmable-PAR38-25-Degree/dp/B01CAL1FEQ/), and then maybe upgrading to 4 of them over the 29. I'm going for medium-high light, so three may suffice; not sure yet! Those upgrades will be coming in the next few days/weeks! FTS (6/15/2019): Sorry for the crooked pic - the way that tank is currently situated makes it next to impossible to get good pics.
  2. I was inspired by Totm winners on nano reef forum and that drive my desire to set up a nano tank. On the other hand, I dont want to spend a ton of money. So I decide to go cheap by doing some diy. I bought an ADA knockoff tank made by Yiding, a chinese manufacturer rumored to be OEM of ADA tanks in the past. The tank dimension is 45cmx 30cmx27cm which approximately hold 34 liter of water. Here is the current tank info. I will keep on editing this as the tank develop. Tank – Yi Ding curve glass ( 45x27x30 ) cm around 8.5 gallons ( Net volume – 7 gallons) with DIY compartments and loc -line return nozzle. Return Pump – SOBO 600L/hr Light – DIY LED ( Cree XTE 12000k x 6, Cree XTE 450 nm x 4 ) driven at 650ma & (Philips Rebel 470nm x 6, Cree XPE 450nm x 5 ) driven at 300ma Skimmer – Bubble Magus NAC QQ Wavemaker – Jebao RW-4 Refractometer – BRS refractometer TDS Meter – HM TDS-3 TDS meter Salt – Marinium Reef Sea salt Salinity – 1.025 @ 28 C Temperature – 27-28 C Top off - manual 300ml daily Soft Corals Pulsing Xenia Zoas ( Zoanthus sp ) Toadstool Coral ( Sarcophyton ) Discosoma Mushroom Rhodactis Mushroom Green Star Polys ( Pachyclavularia sp. ) LPS Brain Coral ( Lobophyllia ) Button Coral ( Cynarina ) Torch Coral ( Euphilia Glabrescens) Flowerpot Coral ( Goniopora sp. ) SPS Forest Fire Digi ( Montipora Digitata ) Pink Birdnest ( Seriatopora Hystix) Radioactive green Birdnest ( Seriatopora sp. ) Cauliflower ( Pocillopora Damicornis ) Fish & Invertebrates Bangaii Cardinal x1 Tailspot Blenny x1 Trochus Snail x2 Full tank shot ( 6 Dec 2017)
  3. So I have decided that I would set up another Pico tank on my desk at work, mainly because I do like to have a back up plan in case my original idea crashes. Last week I picked up a Fluval Spec 3 (2.6G), knowing full well that I would need to replace the light and stock pump, the tank was a grand total of £10.00 and included a Nano 50W adjustable heater. So i got to rummaging through my spares bins and pulled out an old Mini 404 Pump. I also noted that the existing Output from the pump to output nozzle someone had made a series of cuts to dampen the flow from the pump (Probably a Betta Fish house at some point) so I cut a new pipe from suitably sized air hose and re fit to the pump and output nozzle. So on my lunch break I nipped down to my LFS for some more pre mixed water (this is now my Monday Lunch Time Task), picked up some more live sand, approx 0.5KG (which I "sprinkled" over my dry sand) 0.5KG as well as took a hammer to a really ugly bit of Live Rock again another 2KG ish. I have stacked this randomly in my Spec 3 with Saltwater and letting the Cycle start. I will most likely not test this again until Thursday/Friday at the earliest. The smallest Frags of this live rock were donated to my Contest Pico once i had super Glued the Macro to it. The rest I piled into a double "Tower/Island" with two smaller outcrops taking up the space in the front and rear left corners. I also added some Egg Crate to the back panel and far side (furthest from me) as I have seen some gorgeous tanks with Xenia and Green Star Polyps climbing th tank walls, I figured that Egg Crate would allow this process to take place faster? My Desk also occasionally takes a knock from time to time so the Egg Crate will also aid protecting the Glass from any potential falls. All in all I have roughly 1-1.5 inches between the Glass/Back Walls and the Live Rocks. Softies I want to Try Pulsing Xenia (Have purchased 2x Frags) Kenya Tree Green Star Polyp Toadstools Mushrooms Zoa's (Zoe Garden on rock with Xenia/Green Star "background")
