  1. Hi everyone, thanks for visiting my journal. 🙂 I got started in the hobby to take my mind off of work stress back in February 2018, and set up my Biocube 16 on 3/3. I was immediately hooked and started my second tank, my IM Nuvo 10, on 6/16. I really appreciate all of the knowledge and support I’ve found here. This hobby, and the community, got me through a tough time in my life, so thank you for that! I’ve learned so much in the past few months, and I’ve enjoyed the beauty and wonder in everyone’s tanks. 💛 Recent full tank shots: Biocube 16 (stock LED lights), February 28, 2019 Daylights Beauty Lights Blues Nuvo 10 (AI Prime) Favorite Pics: Biocube 16, Taken 4/23/19 Biocube 16, Clowns & Kenya Tree, Taken 5/17/19 Current Biocube 16 Setup, as of 1/26/2019: Light Schedule, Stock LED Lights: LC1 11 am - 9:00 pm LC2 10 am - 9:30 pm LC3 6 am - 12:30 am Chamber 1: Coralife skimmer, temp probe, false floor still intact, tab between chamber1 & 2 still intact (I recommend keeping the tab intact as it supports the Coralife skimmer if you ever want to use one) Chamber 2: Stock media rack, filter floss, Chemipure Elite (for up to 25 gallon), 2 sacks of matrix media Chamber 3: Cobalt Neotherm 50W heater, Chill Solutions chiller pump and hoses, Purigen (for up to 100 gallon) which is sitting in the spot where the small black sponge filter was (if you take out the sponge, save it in case you want it in the future) Original Journal Pics, from August 2018: Equipment Ideas for Beginners: When I first set up my tank, it was difficult to figure out what I really needed to run my tank, so I thought I would post my suggestions here to give people a nice starting point and maybe help you avoid the trial and error process I went through. Captive Yellow tang

Hello Nanoreefers, i thought i should share this video on this forum because i think it's a very important step in our industry and the future of Reef fish keeping. When i was at MACNA in 2018 i saw the boot of Biota, i talk to them and by now with the title/thumbnail you probably know what it's about :P. I do not recommend at all a yellow tang in nano aquarium of course, but it's such a Iconic fish in the reef community. I remember last year when i was in a reef pet shop, i guys arrive from the airport and he was selling yellow tang in he's luggage (yeah literaly), he was trying to push me to buy even when i told him i had a 120L (33g). Let me know what you think of the video, i don't do much interview, you will notice it lol - Nicolas
  3. Hi all, my LFS got a bunch of gorgeous captive-bred Mandarins from Biota. According to them, they readily eat flakes and pellets and frozen and would be fine without widely available copepods. I love these fish, but my tank is pretty new (3 months) and I didn't dare to get a Mandarin thus far. I probably would wait for a much more mature tank with a bigger refugium. Now I am wondering whether the captive bred Mandarin's would really be that easy to keep. The $90 price tag would be a good investment relative to $30 in pods a month or so 🙂 Now the real question: Do you think that the Mandarin's would thrive on dry food and frozen, with only limited copepods that wouldn't fully sustain them alone? Thanks!

    Rey the Biota Mandarin

Just got the call that my LFS got in the tank raised biota mandarins! Running there really fast to have first picks! Meet Rey!(Star Wars name as I speculate her and Poe Dameron may get together in the movies, just like my mandarins hopefully will!) In Tank Day 1  My plans for this thread are to showcase Rey as she grows from the pipsqueak she currently is, hopefully all the way until she's a healthy fully grown wife for Poe!  She is now eating pellets!Â
