So since an old knackered Fluval Spec 3 and Covid robbed me of my office tanks I set up the 5g as a Boredom Breaker. There is something about me that loves the set up stage of a tank and I did it again. I plan to have this on my desk at work. I might even build a little tabletop stand for it, who knows 1 Gallon Reef Jar, set up 13/06/2020. @debbeach13 Figure I can run my tap water test with this. Very basic and think that I might be able to just run this with lights and air stone. I do have a heater avaliable as per the photo 100G Live Sand 500g Cycled Rock 5L Kilner Drinks Dispenser (1.25 Gallon Jar) Air stone rated for 25L tanks (5 Gallon Tanks) Asta 20 LED. Will add once at office 60g Salt per 3.5Litres (1 Gallon-ish, more like 0.85) of water for 1.025 salinity. Actually surprised how quickly everything cleared up. Some bubbles have formed under the curve and I used some floss to skim the surface muck it doesn't look too bad. Had a play around in my dry rock and dead coral selection so think I can hide the air line. Seriatopa skeleton from the RSM crash

I tried and failed to use aquasoil and the mopani wood I bought was leaching sap and was therefore unusable. I quickly grew tired and took down the tank and decided to try my hand at running a reef tank. I had a FOWLR in highschool but never made the jump to coral. Huge thanks to @TatorTaco who responded to a post I made asking for feedback and was instrumental in getting the tank setup by being kind enough to send me sand, rocks, heater and a ton of other extras. Some other people I need to thank are @Clown79, @Lula_Mae, @ninjamyst, @ksadam, and @tgore for all their advice and experience! I hope to keep this journal up to date as a record for coral growth, triumphs and any failures I may (will) come across. Currently battling an infestation of Bubble algae and some red cyano as well as green algae that are both growing on the sand and the walls of the tank. No way to test for phosphates, so I am planning on getting a Hanna ULR checker soon so I can stay on top of those numbers. I theorize it coincided with reduced nutrients when stopping all feeding to try and kill off hydroids that were starting to spread. The hydroids are under control, but I think it allowed the algae to start and take hold. I am slowly sucking out the sand during water changes and that is helping to stop the spread of algae on the sand bed and might eventually try going no sand bed to allow me to crank up the flow a bit. I won't be adding emerald crabs since I have hear mixed reviews on wether they are reef safe.
My 5g pico has been running since March and I’ve used an Asta 20 on it. My frogspawn and pocillopora did well under it along with the miscellaneous zoas and other lps. The remote broke so the light is stuck at 60-80% and on the whiter side. Would this be sufficient for a BTA? I do have a 30g but it’s only been running for about a month. Most of the livestock from the 5g has been moved to the new tank and is tanking the transition well but I’ve heard mixed things about anemones in new/moved tanks so I’d probably start it in the pico. Would the current lighting work? If not, what would be a good cheap alternative or would it be alright in the new tank? Thanks!
