    DIY acrylic V2.501

So I’m participating in the contest and I’m deciding to build EVERYTHING from scratch well except the acrylic which will be pulled from the scrap bin (my ole lady said,”You can participate if you don’t spend any money.”) Aka “TEAM BUDGET” “Dino flatulence” 5/10/19 FTS 5/25/19 Proposed equipment: 1-12x6x8 (2.5 gallon tank) 1-8x3x4 hob filter(acrylic) (didn’t work as planned) 1-160gph pump(for HOB Filter) 20$ (😭) 1-2.5x7.5 surface skimmer(acrylic) 1-AI prime HD w/mount 1- custom stand (for AI prime hd) 1-controller board (I’m debating this) 1-50w heater 1- hydor nano 240gph wave maker (too much flow) 1-90gph pump 1-Hydor water deflector 1-6ft water proof warm white led string (didn’t need it) 1-24hr timer 1- auto aqua smart ATO/AWC (gift) 1- Brightwell Aquatics Xport mini cubes (gift) Total spent: -20$ Livestock: candycane pistol shrimp (pew 🔫 pew) Bristle worms cerith snails majano anemones Coral list: compliments of Corallivore Corals jedi mindtrick montipora mystic sunset montipora Blue discosoma Teal discosoma blue spot discosoma orange ricordia rainbow ricordia reverse rainbow ricordia kedds red zoanthid rasta zoanthid eagle eye zoanthid nuclear waste zoanthid bam bam zoanthid rainbow infusion zoanthid armor of god zoanthid green finger leather Brown toadstool GSP Pulsing xenia cove polyps cespitularia purple hammer The beginning picture “4/2/19” with dehydrated apple rings and cuppy cakes
  2. Starting my build thread on Nano-reef since I just downsized but upgraded to an Innovative Marine Nuvo Fusion 40. My old, and first ever, tank was a 36x18x18 non-drilled tank that I had a HOB overflow box with a wet/dry sump that was very noisy and very low quality. Since I was unhappy with my Frankenstein set up and I wanted a tank that would be easier to move by myself since I am graduating college soon. I opted for an IM Nuvo 40 since the LFS I work at had the peninsulas and they seemed to be quality tanks. Many online forums had good reviews for the tanks as well so I ordered one. I then switched everything from my 50 to the new 40 in one day.... I had created a small cave with some epoxy and old live rock for my eel then the rest of the rock was taken from my 50, I bought 40 lbs of Fiji Pink sand since I did not want to mess with my old sand. I put the water, rocks with coral, and fish into a garbage can while I took the 50 off the stand and put the 40 on. Equipment: 2 x AI Prime HD+ (coral+ lighting schedule) Eshopps Nano Skimmer Seachem Matrix Chemipure Elite Marinepure shperes Eheimm titanium heater *IM media reactor (Aquavitro Biogen 4/21/2019) Fish: Dwarf Fuzzy Lionfish Snowflake Eel (Mac) Melanurus Wrasse Cleaner Shrimp 3x white hermit crabs 3x blue leg hermit crabs 2x turbo snail Coral: Caribbean gorgonian Yellow finger gorgonian Torch 3 hammers Toadstool Sinularia Christmas favia Zoas (don't know the trade names) Chalice Pulsing Xenia GSP Orange acan Samacora Plate coral Monti Cap
  3. Got a few pics of my tank running the hydra26 and also glued my new WWC frags on the rocks.
  4. Need some options on of this looks safe mounted on my glass. I ended up buying a hydra26 today because apparently prime hd’s are sold out and aquaillumination is not shipping any to stores..... maybe they are working on upgrading the primes??? Well I ended up getting the hydra knowing it’s a bit much but hey I will be getting a new tank this year and it will carry over. My concern is if this mount is safely installed on the glass, it’s a heavy light and the gooseneck is also heavy. I just don’t know if it could break the glass from to much stress or if I’m just over worrying. Hope some one can chime in.

    AI Hydra 26HD Mount Options

Hey Everyone! I picked up (2) AI Hydra 26HD's and am trying to figure out best mounting option. My DT is already full and running so mounting anything to the back of the stand is not an option. The two options I am considering are the DIY TV mount or the HMS Multi-Light Kit. I don't want to spend a fortune to mount these lights and I am worried the HMS setup will sit too high above the water level. Does anyone know if these can be adjusted? If anyone has any DIY mounts they want to share, I would really appreciate it. Again, I cannot mount anything to back of stand as tank is full and operational. Also, if you have done the TV mount option, I could really use some good pictures showing how its connected.
  10. Introducing the Nero 5 Pump from AI Brains and brawn!
  11. Hey guys, looking for some input on people’s thoughts on lighting a 12” deep, 18” x 18” cube for predominantly sps. I am am torn between an AI prime HD and an XR15 pro gen 4. I understand that the XR15 highly out guns the prime, but I am intrigued about the power the prime HD can produce. As I said it is going to be predominantly sps frags growing out with some lps. Has anyone had any positive results running the prime hd with sps 10” - 12” below the surface using the prime HD rear mounting kit? Anyone think the XR15 is going to be overkill for the size of the tank?

    First time sps

Have a biocube 14 that has been running for about 2 months now. In the middle of a red slime algae bloom right now. I have several softies that are doing good except one other coral. A superman montipora that I bought back when I had the stock pc lighting. Since then I bought a corallife skimmer and an ai prime HD set to 13k at 60%. I also keep with 20% water changes twice a week, so I figured not to worry about trace elements. The monti bleached with the old lights, but the polyps are still there and colored. I want to buy other sps corals in the future, but don't want them to die. Picture of monti is attached.
