So I’m participating in the contest and I’m deciding to build EVERYTHING from scratch well except the acrylic which will be pulled from the scrap bin (my ole lady said,”You can participate if you don’t spend any money.”) Aka “TEAM BUDGET” FTS 7/19/19 Proposed equipment: 1-12x6x8 (2.5 gallon tank) 1-8x3x4 hob filter(acrylic) (didn’t work as planned) 1-160gph pump(for HOB Filter) 20$ (😭) 1-2.5x7.5 surface skimmer(acrylic) 1-AI prime HD w/mount 1- custom stand (for AI prime hd) 1-controller board (I’m debating this) 1-50w heater 1- hydor nano 240gph wave maker (too much flow) 1-90gph pump 1-Hydor water deflector 1-6ft water proof warm white led string (didn’t need it) 1-24hr timer 1- auto aqua smart ATO/AWC (gift) 1- Brightwell Aquatics Xport mini cubes (gift) Total spent: -20$ Livestock: candycane pistol shrimp (pew 🔫 pew) Bristle worms cerith snails majano anemones Coral list: compliments of Corallivore Corals jedi mindtrick montipora mystic sunset montipora Blue discosoma Teal discosoma blue spot discosoma orange ricordia rainbow ricordia reverse rainbow ricordia kedds red zoanthid rasta zoanthid eagle eye zoanthid nuclear waste zoanthid bam bam zoanthid rainbow infusion zoanthid armor of god zoanthid green finger leather Brown toadstool GSP Pulsing xenia cove polyps cespitularia purple hammer The beginning picture “4/2/19” with dehydrated apple rings and cuppy cakes Here is a shot of it empty
Since joining the Old School Pico Contest I've been feeling nostalgic and looking to set up a bigger reef system like it was 1999. Metal halides, T5's, Kalkwasser you get the picture. I've been thinking about an upgrade tank for sometime now, but had a hard time picking a system that I will be happy with for sometime that's inexpensive, bigger but not huge and easy to manage. I wanted the same ease of use that I get from my EVO 13.5 but with more space for corals, fish, and more room in the rear chambers. Most of the AIO's out there didn't quite check all the boxes or out of the budget. I will be keeping this build on a tight budget, but also try and make it as nice as possible in the process. That being said I will be using most of the equipment I already have or in use. My vision for this build will be lots of flow, light, and mainly sps dominant. I think it will be cool to have a nano still running metal halide/t5/led. It will be interesting to see colors and growth from all three lighting options at same time. I'm very excited to see this build come together, here are the specs. Tank 40 gallon breeder peninsula with an AIO insert custom made by @This guy is extra salty This way I get the best of both worlds, keep cost low and get the much needed space I was looking for. Stand Petco Brooklyn stand I will make a custom skin with pvc board Lighting Floating canopy made with pvc board T5/led fixture I made for my EVOreef 4-24watt T5 bulbs with a dsuny eBay led. 400 watt radium metal halide fixture. Flow Ice cap 1k Aqamai KPS Return pump TBD This is all I have for now will update as this build progresses.
Hello everyone, First post on the forum. I have had my nuvo 14 gallon peninsula tank up and running for over 1 year. I have noticed when I get my corals from guys that keep them under radions some slowly lose their patterns and bright colors. They still grow and look very happy, but specifically reds, greens and blues change after a month. My jawbreakers, and chalices are the most important to me. I experimented with this and moved some fragged zoas in the garage under t5’s and a reef brite strip that all got brighter and better within a week (not as much growth due to it being a newer less stable tank. My Kessil a80 (15 watt) light is 6 inches above the tank with it being 13” of water top to bottom. With a spectral controller ramping up and down 5 percent color (mostly blue). 10 am 50% 1 pm 75% 4 pm 100% 7 pm 75% 10 pm 0% My question is, should I swap the light and spectral controller for an AI hd prime, Kessil a160we, or go full overkill and run a Radion xr15, Orphek, or a360 at low intensity? If I’m good with my current setup I’ll just wait it out and keep my frag racks high. Attached Ed is my tank, and a study someone conducted on YouTube showing par values similar depth of my tank. Parameters are as follows: Alk: 9 Mag: 1500 Salinity: 1.025 Calcium: 460 Nitrate: 5 Phosphate: 0.04
Been away from the form awhile.....Just wanted to start a journal about my newest nano salt tank. I combined all my previous tanks into this new one. Here are the stats:::::::::::: Tank: IM Fusion Nano 20 Lights: Left Side- Lumini Aqua Asta 120 Right Side- AI Prime HD Water Stock Pump Flow: IceCap 1k Gyre with one side Misc: Reef Glass Nano Protein Skimmer Residents: Two Clown Fish One Blue Sapphire Damselfish One Peppermint Shrimp Various Hermit Crabs Various Snails Various Coral All of this is on a handmade stand that was covered with distressed wood and with a custom swinging door/organizer. I have had the tank running for about 3 months now ( the contents came from tanks that were running about a year) My goal with this tank is to grow out the current coral I have and get it nice and full looking. Trying to keep it low maintenance right now.
