  1. Hi folks, I'm at the very beginning stages of setting up my 20g peninsula tank from IM. A problem I'm running into is finding a quality light source that is also aesthetically pleasing. A mentor told me not to skimp on lighting, and after reading some of the topics here it makes sense to spend the couple extra bucks on something that will last and also be able to go into an upgraded tank if/when that time comes. So he swears by the radion xr30, which wouldnt be a problem, but the mounting arm would take up chamber 2, where I'll have a skimmer. This seems to be my issue with the peninsula and a mounting arm (aesthetics). Any advice? How have you solved this problem? I'd like to avoid a hanging fixture if possible. Maybe something like the attached? Thanks!
  2. In the last 4 years, my 20g tank has logged more than 2,000 miles in 5 different moves, has visited 8 different states, and two of those moves were half way across the country. Needless to say, this has taken quite a toll on the tank. It's been up and running in some state for some eight years now, and finally has a permanent home now that we've bought a house. With any luck, things will flourish, uninterrupted. SPS have been back in the tank a few months now and am hoping I won't have to sell them off and move again like I usually have to do! Equipment: Tank: Standard Petco $20 20g Tall - 24x12x16. Lighting: Radion XR30 Pro (G1) with upgraded wide-angle lenses @ 45% Flow: 1x MP10 and return pump @ 100% in Yellow Mode Sump: DIY 10g Standard Petco $10 10g - 20x10x12 with 2 chambers Skimmer: Bubble Magus C3.5 ATO: Avast Marine with Aqualifter Temperature: Ranco 111000 connected to old titanium heater Overflow: HOB CPR CS50 with Aqualifter siphone and DIY float valve relay on return to prevent accidents Dosing: 1/4 - 1/3 gallon of 27.5% saturated Kalk in RODI per day. Keeps Alk between 8.4 and 9.2 over the course of about 20 days. Live Stock: Fish: 2x Percula Clowns and one Hoeven's/Melanurus Wrasse Coral: Acros, Montis, Acans, Favia, Stylo, Birdsnest, Merulina, Blastos, Chalice, Platygyra, Ricordea, Zoas, Palys Nems: Two RBTAs (mother and baby), 2x Mini-Maxis Everything has been set up for ease of maintenance and being able to run for a week if I'm travelling since the amount of time I have to dedicate to my reef comes and goes - after 8 years, I just want it to be as simple as I can get - no more experimenting with gadgets or fads, just simple, basic husbandry. It seems the only time I am working on my reef these days between work, climbing when it's warm and snowboarding when it's cold is when the weather is crappy and I'm stuck inside. FTS on 4/22/19: FTS on 2/19/19: Here's a FTS from where I am starting from, again, in it's beat-down glory 10/4/18: All things considered, it's looking pretty decent having spent more than 2 weeks of it's life packed up just like this:

    DeeCoy's 20g beginner

Hello everyone! This is my first attempt at saltwater reefing. I have spent the last couple of years dabbling with freshwater and brackish setups, and decided I was finally ready to try the salty side. I am starting with a used IM Nuvo 20 gallon, Small Solar Flare LED, wet live rock and wet live sand. I am live cycling with damsels, snails, and a couple of hermits. Wet date 1/19/19. Impatience is my problem...I am chomping at the bit to add more life to the framework, but I know it is stupid to rush things into an uncycled tank. So, sitting on my hands and wallet at the moment, testing water params every 3 days and haunting LFSs looking at frags and tanks. Dee

  6. Hey, So now that I have saturated myself with many hours of countless reading, I am ready build and manage a tank. I decided to go with this route because of equipment I already had. 10 gallon all in one setup. A very good starter read is here by steelhealr http://www.nano-reef.com/forums/index.php?...;hl=submersible the inspiration for this build and help came from lil'wrasse cool http://www.nano-reef.com/forums/index.php?...126726&st=0 I went into greater detail than most of you will need but these are questions I had when I was starting so... bear with it. Now for the pics, This is for a standard 10 gallon fish tank. The silocone will fill in the gaps so hair pin precision is not needed here. the bulkhead how it looks That is where I am for now. I will post more with fuge and siliconed. bzphotog

    Kelz 20g Hex

After a few years out of the hobby i have finally taken the plunge back into the world of saltwater tanks. My husband found this cute 20 gallon hex and bought it with plans for a freshwater tank. I offhandedly mentioned that it would make a beautiful little reef and here we are. This will be a slower build but hopefully it will be a beautiful one. Sand is rinsed. It's amazing how dirty dry sand can be. The container I mixed water in wasn't big enough so I had to make more. And finally the tank all filled. Now we wait.

    Yet Another IM20 Build!

Hello All. Long time lurker...first time poster. I have kept saltwater tanks for a very long time. I mainly kept FOWLR in the past. This is my second nano build. The first was almost ten years ago. Needless to say...I am back in the game! I was able to pick up an Innovative Marine 20G Nuvo tank from one of my LFS (The Hidden Reef / Outside of Philly). They had a sale on tanks. I picked mine up with the 2 stock 18w lights for $279...much cheaper than the $399 retail price that I saw online. After I set up the tank and mounted the lights, one of the clamps snapped. Thank God that I had the cover over the tank...the light would have just plopped in. I emailed IM and Brian got back to me ASAP. After sending a few pics, they mailed out a new clamp. Great customer service! Here are my plans. Equipment: Tank - IM NUVO 20 Pump - Might keep the stock...I have noticed that a lot of people replace them. Flow - 1 Jebao SW 4 - picked it up from another LFS / ARS in Malvern...Mike is great and I picked it up for cheap...$20 cheaper than another LFS...and Mike appears to keep some of the best frags locally. Heater - 50W from old system Lights - 2 stock Skkye Lights 18W - will keep for now and consider upgrading around the Holiday. (Kessel or Prime HD LD) ATO - I am researching ATOs at the moment Skimmer - I am researching skimmers at the moment Filtration - Socks and chemi-pure blue Refugium - looking at using one of the chambers for a refugium Life: 12ish pounds of dry rock / 15lbs of sand Fish (I am thinking about 3 max) Orange Spotted Goby or Yellow Watchman Goby or Rainford's Goby (leaning towards the Rainford's) 6 Line Wrasse Tail Spot Blenny - picked him/her up after the cycle Midnight or Wyoming White...just don't know yet....maybe a Domino Corals (still determining what I want) Lords Leptoseris Chalice Scolymia Favia Frogspawn Leather Leptastrea Candy Canes COC Snails, hermits, mini brittle stars (as necessary) Maintenance: Weekly 10%-20% water change Dosing (maybe) I started the cycling process 2 weeks ago (shrimp and bacteria). Ammonia and Nitrites have spiked...picking up Nitrates...taking it very slowly... A few picks:
  10. Hey everyone, I've been looking into this off and on for a while since I built this tank, but I can't seem to come to a head on which lighting would be best for me. I did skim through the led lighting section for similar tanks and looked at product details but they did not really tell me anything I needed to make a definitive decision.(they actually made me have more questions than solve) I have a 24" x 14" x 15" ~22g tank I built when I upgraded from a 10g a few months ago. without the back sump, the tank is 24" x 14" x 12" I think these dimensions are very similar to a IM nuvo 20g if im not wrong. My current lighting is two 20" finnex stingrays set to 9 hrs per day, I dont know if this lighting is really considered sufficient since at least in the FW side, it is considered a low-medium light with a par of around 30 I believe(par at the bottom of tank 14"). Well I thought I could find a light by looking at what people are using on their nuvo 20g tanks, and there seems to be a few options From what I've seen the options are; kessil a160 tuna blue 2 kessil a80 tuna blue AI Prime 24-36" current orbit marine My corals I currently keep are an acan, blasto, xenia, GSP, ricordia, and few zoanthids. afaik this is considered a mixed reef, I plan to shoot for a possible birds nest seriatoporia coral in the highest part of my tank, and/or possibly some sort of frogspawn/hammer. I would like to keep my options open so if possible I can use low-high lighting. another bit to add to this, but I notice at least with SW lighting, theres not really much attention given to red LED specifically 660nm part of the spectrum, is there any reason for this? In FW there is usually red added to the LED array for the second usable section of light by plants(440nm being the first and 660nm being the second) I dont quite understand the imbalance, do corals not use this? anyways, Any recommendations, experiences, or advice will be extremely helpful as Im still wrapping my head on this after quite a long time at looking at it. here is a pic of my tank for reference, and again thanks for anyone who can help or reply.
  11. Hey nano-reef, After a recent post asking about a recommended light to use, it seems the nanobox duo plus m is the best option for me. I wanted to upgrade my lights, but im held back from getting a new nanobox duo/duo plus m due to budget. I figured its not very justified to buy a new ai prime hd or tide if what my aquarium really would be set is with a duo coverage wise. but on that note, I am also interested in a used tide/tide plus m. I am hoping someone has one they are not using and willing to sell to me. Please PM if interested with offer, and thank you for reading the post. UPDATE: thank you those who sent PMs, I have bought a duo plus m.
