💟 Pico Project (3 gallon JBJ Cubey)(blues wuth orange filters fts and update.)

I cant stand the frags in my 20g any more they are driving me nuts and I just dont have room right now for the other aios I have in storage. I had thought about setting up my 2.5g with a canister again but I realy wanted the equipment contained in an aio system so I ended up ordering this tank. I have a few pumps laying around one may fit this to upgrade the 40g pump it comes with. I'll have to see what one fits it. The lights are not that strong but my frags are all softies and these will support softies and some lps corals from what I understand they should be fine if not I can upgrade later. I plan to plug the bottom intake if this verson has it some of the newer ones have gone to a single overflow. I'll run filter floss and chemipure with some extra carbon In the mix. Once the frags are gone I plan to turn this into a pico reef/ rfa grow out tank for a few of my nicer rfa babies that I want to pay special atention too with a few other corals probly zoa and shroom and probly a shrimp or something and/or possibly an evota or clown goby. -
Hi, everyone! A friend of mine contacted me for help to ID these two Zoa colonies, if possible. Have any of you seen these morphs before? Any chance anyone out there knows what they're called? 😊 @Murphs_Reef - any ideas? 🤔

Hello all, I recently added some more Zoas and would like some identification if at all possible. I feel like one of them are some more Gorilla Nipples like the previous one that I purchased.

Are these zoas pissed? They have been in my tank for a week now. Everr since I put them in they've been stretched so I don't know if I should move them up higher in the tank or what. Other than stretching they've been opened and seem fine but now I noticed some of them are starting to actually point downwards... one is even underneath the rock now. My tank is only a few weeks old. Ammonia is at zero, nitrites are at zero, nitrates are around 10. Temperature is 78. I just have the lights that came with the AIO setup, so nothing special. The blues are on from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 p.m. and the whites from 10 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. They are currently about middle of the tank and get very low flow.

Hi everyone, I've decided to start a journal for my third tank - a tiny 2.6G picoreef with some vicious monsters from the deep! Background: This tank was originally set up to meet the O.S.P.R.C. organized last year by NR. However, I kept battling a persistent flatworm issue which resulted in a loss of livestock and motivation in general. It served as a betta tank for a short while, but now that I've moved my betta into a better/larger tank, I've decided to re-start this tiny aquarium as a picoreef. Most of the corals added to this tank was done via an emergency TTM, because I ran into some really nasty temp. issues with my nanoreef in the library (the water spiked up to 33'C ) and this was my last-ditch effort to save whatever I could. The pico is located in my bedroom, which is currently the coolest spot in the house, and the average temp. is between 26'C (night) and 29'C (very hot days). The TTM went over quite smoothly so far, but I didn't have any extra sand when the tank was re-set, so I went barebottom for the time being. Hi anything helps here, I’ve had my tank setup for almost two years and bought a new zoanthid frag a week ago. The tank parameters are in check and all of the other corals are doing great but a few days ago some of the polyps turned pinkish/white and have not opened since. If anyone has any suggestions to please let me know!

To be honest I neglected my tank for a couple months and the result was algae on everything. I’ve since got rid of the algae and am nursing everything back to health. My question is how far gone does a zoa colony have to be before I should just give up on it? I used a toothbrush and got most the algae off and this is what I have.

I recently got a zoanthid frag pack from WWC, I’m new to the hobby and only have one nano reef so I did not have anything to really quarantine my frags in so I just gently shook the frags in my own saltwater after acclimating them and took the chance and put them straight into the tank. I know it was a mistake I was just so eager, anyway it’s day two of having them in my reef tank and I spotted a few centipede looking bugs around my zoa’s. Does anyone have any idea what this thing is ? Is it bad? Harmless? All the zoanthids are open and looking happy right now except the one that I spotted the critters on, the skirt isn’t completely open but it’s also not closed. Any info would really be appreciated as I’m literally brand new to the hobby I want to learn everything I can possible. Thanks everyone

8/2/19 7/16/19 6/12/19 5/8/19 Hello NR! I’m excited to be joining the old school pico reef contest. My plan for the tank is a ‘boneless’ setup… so all (or mostly) soft corals and nems. On top of this, the tank will be set up at my high school, Whitney Young, as a part of my club, Eco Club, which focuses on animal stewardship and environmental education. I will be the one managing all maintenance on the tank. My main goal for this project is to teach other students about coral reefs/marine habitats and for them to be able to become active in their protection and conservation. Since I’ll keep it at school I won’t be there to take care of it every day, so I’ll try to make it as bulletproof as possible (why it'll be boneless). Let’s get down to the setup list: The tank I’m using is a UNS 3N, very seamless, clean look. Aquaclear 50 power filter. I’ll get into the filtration below. Kessil A160, supplied by the club. Kessil Spectral Controller, supplied by the club. Aqueon 50W heater. ACKE horticulture/refugium light. JBJ ATO, cheap and ugly... I'd like a Smart ATO micro in the future because the JBJ is reeaally bulky. Now we’re getting into filtration: The filtration is going to be mostly biological. I converted the AC50 into a refugium by putting the light on the back and taping the sides to keep the light in. I’ll be putting chaeto in there along with 3 marine pure spheres- I considered caulerpa but the possibility of it going sexual and nuking the tank outweighs the pros. The other biological filtration will be from the sandbed and live rock. I have a small bag in with a tbsp of carbon and a few pinches of GFO as well. I have a strip of filter floss next to the intake in the filter for mechanical filtration. Jumping into the aquascape plan: I wanted to give this its own category since I planned so much about it. Just to give you an idea of how long I spent on it, it took me over 10 minutes to wash the epoxy and super glue off my hands after I finished it. I designed an arch to be able to let a few corals grow up the sides of it while leaving enough room on the sandbed for other corals. I’ll try to find some tall corals like leathers, kenya tree, xenia, or photosynthetic goniopora to put on the back of the arch to give it more depth. I’ll get cloves, GSP, zoas, mushrooms, and some other softies to grow over everything and make colorful. It's mostly zoas though. Then on the sandbed I’ll keep RFAs to put some more colors in there. Moving onto the stocking list: So the only real things that I will stock in the tank will be a clean up crew and a few crabs. Right now I have a purple porcelain crab, a halloween hermit, two trochus snails, and a few hitchhiker stomatellas. That about does it, I’ll try to pump out as many updates as I can for you all.

does anybody have any idea what the name/kind of zoanthids these are? thse are the best pics I could find searching through my camera roll from a couple months ago. I bought them from my LFS and they didn't have any specified name. I know in the third pic there's some radioactive dragon eyes mixed in there with another one, maybe two types, of zoas. and a rough guess that those are spiderman zoas in the second? I have no clue what zoas those are in the first pic. any help would be appreciated

Hi all, and hi to the Nuvo 10 community! For the past year or so, I've been wanting a reef of my own, and I'm now addicted. I decided on the Innovative Marine Nuvo 10 for the compact size and transportability, given that I plan to take it to college eventually. As of the moment I am writing this, I currently have put the rock and sand into the tank, after cycling the rock for about 3 weeks in a 5-gallon bucket using Fritz Turbo Start. The sand is Fiji Pink, and the rocks are Walt Smith 2.1. I have the tank on the 10 gallon white JBJ Nano Cubey Stand, which looks really great with the tank. Equipment List IM Nuvo 10 Tank 10 Gallon White JBJ Nano Cubey Stand AI Hydra 26 HD (Modified AB+ Settings) Cobalt Neo-Therm 50 watt heater (best heater on the market) Sicce Syncra .5 Return Pump Vortech mp10wqd inTank Media Basket (Running inTank filter floss, 2 chemi pure blue nano packets, and 1 marinepure cube) Tunze Nano ATO (Not running a skimmer, I'm running 4 MarinePure cubes in the second chamber) Aquatic Life 100gpd RODI unit Tropic Marin Pro Reef salt (mixes extremely fast) Tank as of August 16, 2019. No light or ATO yet. Tank as of October 2, 2019. Hydra 26 with diffuser has been added. Snails, hermits, and goby have been introduced. No corals quite yet.

Hey everyone - wondering what could be the cause of this spot on my zoa frag. When I purchased the frag late last week, there area without polyps was there, but just recently has turned white. As you can see in the photo, it is almost like little white spores. Any idea what could cause this and how I can treat it?

Does anyone know why my zoanthids are not growing well. Is algae growing on them? If so how do I stop that.

We've got some trouble in paradise. So as some background, my most recent water change was this Saturday, three days ago. Ca was at 440 and all other parameters were fine (don't have my own test kit so I got my water tested at the pet store when I went to get more saltwater. Waiting for a good one to go on sale). Before doing the water change, all of my new zoas were acting up (Radioactive dragon eye, eagle eye, and utter chaos). They were all closed up or half closed, not fully opened and pretty. At this point, all of them have been in my tank for about a month; the UC was always open and it was the RDEs and the EEs that were giving me problems. On the advice of another zoa keeper, those two got a peroxide dip. Nothing had happened in the tank other than a hermit crab knocking my Fat Head Den on top of my UC; even then it was still open though. Following the peroxide dip, my UC polyp starts acting up, Mind you, it was fine before and didn't receive a dip. Now after the water change on Saturday, UC still has not opened up and the polyp looks likes it regressing? At the same time, my Monti cap (which was also fine on Saturday during the water change) has started bleaching?! The Monti has also been in my tank for a month and was totally fine. Its mounted on a magnet so I have it at the surface of the water where the par is the highest. It's directly across from my wavemaker so it's getting good flow. And, I feed the tank a mix of benepets and Reef Chili so there is food in there small enough for it to eat. I've been checking for flatworms on both but I see none or any eggs. Any clue as to what's going on? I don't want to lose either of these corals!

hi, i realy want some zoanthids, jet my parents are afraid of the palytoxins. I wont frag the zoas and wont be rough with them (the main reasons they release it). They say im to "young" to handle these toxic corals my LFS is selling a nice piece of zoa rock with alien eye zoas about 60 polyps for 30$. a good sale. Any way i can convince them so i can buy zoas. (i been stuck with mushrooms, xenia, star polyp and leathers for softies)

College Reefs: How my Clownfish are on their way to a degree

OK, well they might not be getting degrees but they are for sure helping me get mine! I am currently a Junior at a small school in Ohio and I have something no one else has, a pair of badass clownfish! I have been keeping reef tanks for about 7 years now and after all that time I finally feel like I'm avoiding rookie mistakes. I originally brought a 5 gallon tank to school my second semester of my freshman year and my whole plan was to make everything as simple (and cheap) as possible. Anyone in the hobby knows where this is going. I went too simple and too cheap right out the gate. I went bare-bottom, no mechanical filtration and even skimped on the live-rock. Long story short that tank did not survive past spring semester. I tore it all down and swore that I was done! Fastforward a year and my obsession with the hobby had been rekindled. I spent the last summer researching how I can make this tank 1) thrive long term, 2) personally enjoyable and 3) informative to others. As the only person on my campus to have a saltwater tank I felt like this time around I had to keep the up for myself but also for the people living with me. 5 months into that journey and people still come up to me and ask "you're the one with the fish tank in your room right?" Tank Specs Display: 10 gallon glass aquarium Lighting: 2 Par38 Rapid LED bulbs suspended using Coral Compulsion clamps Heating: Eheim 25W heater Circulation: Ecotech mp10 (OG model) Rock: Reel Reef Rock (10lbs) Filter: Aquaclear 20 w/Chemi-Pure Blue Substrate: Carib Sea Arag-Alive Reef Sand (-12Lbs.) Current Livestock A pair of Ocellaris clownfish 2x Sexy Shrimp 2x Nassarius Snails 2x Scarlet Hermit Crabs Soft Coral Green star polyps Radioactive Zoanthids Hulk Zoanthids Anemones Red rock anemone All my livestock, besides the female clownfish (bigger of the two), came from vividaquariums. I highly recommend them! It is the second time I have gotten shipments from them and they are world class and very professional. I ordered a pair of clownfish but one died within 12 hours and they were great about refunding me the next day! If you cannot tell, I love photography so if you're looking for a thread with some cool photos, stay tuned for more. I will be trying my very hardest to post every ~2-weeks about how tanks journey.
