I would love to get everyones tank parameters. The full nine yards. I want to see what the averages turn out to be and see what parameters elicit the best coral health! Feel free to include pics and happy reefing 🙂 pH- 8.2 Nitrate- 10 Calcium- 460 Alk- 11 Phos- 0.12 Mag- 1260 (If you want to include PAR for specific corals, that's awesome too!)

So watching a bsr live last night, there was a topic on pH and coral growth. Having a level 8.3 promotes a healthy and steady growth for LPS / SPS. Personally, I haven't monitored pH for years. Question is, should I? I'm not sure, maybe. Out of interest I have an old API pH test kit (only just in date by 2 months) so decided to check it. It came out at 8.4 so just above what bsr are telling me is good.. not sure how accurate API is for pH but that's a different issue. Who cares? Do you? Do you measure pH?

Have you ever struggled with low PH? Has your coral growth slowed? Have you tried a CO2 scrubber yet? They work very well I assure you! I myself have been a victim of low PH especially in the summer and winter. You see at those times of year I have to keep my home closed up from the elements. I’d love to be able to open up all my windows all the time , but that’s just not realistic or possible with brutal Midwest heat and humidity. Let’s not even discuss bone chilling winters. Not everyone has all of the seasons I do but most of us have at least one time of the year that we can’t have our humble abodes open to the fresh air. This is exactly the time that CO2 scrubber comes in handy! So let me tell you my results with my first CO2 Scrubber. I was having a hard time maintaining 7.8-8.0 Ph on a daily diurnal swing. My coral growth had slowed, my alkalinity and calcium consumption had dropped dramatically and my tank just didn’t look right. Sound familiar?? The search was on for a solution, 😂 My mind begin to work! After some online searching I found some information about CO2 scrubbers . What’s this scrubber thing you speak of? What does it do? What’s the benefits? Well a Ph scrubber is basically a chamber or reactor that holds CO2media ( calcium hydroxide) and (sodium hydroxide). When you pass air laden with Carbon Dioxide through the reactor/scrubber media, the CO2 is absorbed by the media and fresh air continues on to your aquarium. This is generally done by connecting the air intake line of your skimmer to the reactor/scrubber. As CO2 is scrubbed out before fresh air is delivered to the aquarium your PH increases because your skimmer is no longer pumping CO2 laden air into the tank. Genius!! Let me show you a few pictures of what this looks like.😊 So we’ve gone over the basics of what a scrubber is , what it does , and what it helps with. Now we need to chat about one more important thing, the media. How do you know if the media is good? How do you know when it’s bad? How long does it last?.Glad you asked !! 😂 The media is white when it is fresh and in it’s sealed container. It won’t stay that way as it absorbs CO2. The IceCap media will turn Pink in color as it absorbs CO2. Once the media has sufficiently turned Pink it should be removed and discarded. If you leave the media in the scrubber after this point it could turn back to white, but it isn’t actually working any longer.Lets take a quick look at the media when it needs to be changed. At this point you can see the media has been sufficiently used and should be discarded.The time it takes for your to turn from white to pink will vary . Every aquarium and environment is different. Now what’s the point of all this? Well the end result of adding a CO2 Scrubber can substantially help with low PH. My PH now is sustained at 8.0-8.3 during my tanks diurnal swing. That’s a nice increase and my corals are much happier and are again growing wonderfully!

Hey, So it's been a few weeks since I set up my RSR350. I used recycled water from my old tank, which still has its inhabitants. I REALLY want to put them in their new home especially because they're inhabiting the rocks that I want in the tank and i would like to finally get rid of it. Old tank Parameters: Ph: unknown Salinity: 1.026 Temp: 24C Ca - 480 Kh - 4.3Meq/L 12.0 dkh Mg - 1800ppm Inhabitants: 2x clowns, 2x cleaner shrimp, 1x serpent star, 1x clam, 1x cynarina, 1x sleeper goby. 5-10 zoas, 5 LPS corals New tank Parameters: Salinity: 1.026 I dont have todays Ca, Mg, Kh readings but if they're really needed for this situation, I'll gladly do a test for all 3. Should I be worried about my Ph readings. I didn't really worry about it in my nano but this new Seneye sensor is reporting a problem from 7.6- 7.7 The new tank is also getting the old cycled tank water and sand Hoping to get this situation solved bc my sps are starting to bleach, from being in the wrong spot.

hello all, I'm new to this site so please be easy on me lol. I've been in the hobby for about 8 years now. I recently started my 10gallon Nano tank (3 months ago) its doing average I would say. the corals are growing, not fast but pretty well. I don't have much coralline algae growing so I wanted to try purple up. well I did that last night with a ph of about 8.14 and I woke up to a ton of notifications from my APEX saying it was 6.0!! I'm planning on doing a water change immediately but curious to why it dropped so much. I have a 10 gallon sump/refugium too so my water volume is around 18 gallons with all my live rock and sand.

I have had my Biocube 32 running for five days with dry rock, live rock, and live sand, I did one ghost feeding, but other than that haven't added anything. I just did my first set of water tests, here are the results. Temperature: 77.3 F Specific gravity: 1.025 pH: 8.2/8.3 Ammonia: 0.2/0.3 Nitrite: 0.0 Nitrate: Didn't test, but I assume it has to be 0.0 Other tank conditions: No visible algae growth, though there are many small hyrdroids on the glass, a small number of copepods, tiny feather duster worms, a few Aiptasia and Asterina starfish, plus some other unidentified hitchhikers. I know i'm still at an obviously very early stage, but does everything seem "normal" so far?

I have Fluval 13.5G. Water: 26-27c 1.024 kH around 8 The pH is very low - 7.6 and day (even with the open windows the pH say same) and 7.5 at night. I have a skimmer and fuge with chaeto on a reverse time cycle. I also run a carbon. Salt was Reef Crystal, but I switched to Coral Pro Salt (changed maybe 20% of water). Any idea why it low and do I need to rise it? (kalk?)

Pure ammonia dosing (no perfume, no bubbles) raised pH to 8.6

I had been trying to get some level of ammonia into my tank with fish food for a while. Nothing. Undetectable. So I resorted to dosing ammonia. Dr Tim's Ammonium Chloride isn't available in Italy. Instead I bought a bottle of pure janitorial ammonia, the bottle says "classic ammonia". No bubbles whatsoever. (The same brand had "classic ammonia" and "perfumed ammonia" so I'd assume the one I got has to pure ammonia) After dosing for a while, I finally got a good ammonia reading 1.5. I'm testing with salifert. Great. HOWEVER, my pH got up to 8.6 IN THE MEANWHILE. Anybody knows what is going on and how I can lower my pH? Cycle: Ammonia 1.5 Nitrite: 0.5 - 1 Nitrate 25-50 PH 8.6 !?!? -
Hello I've just done a set of test crica. 30 mins after a 10% water change, and plan to do one every day until my next change (1 week) to see if there's anything I can spot that could be causing my algae issues, as well as try to find out why my Duncan is sulking (has been for about 2 weeks). Ammonia - 0 Nitrate - 20 Nitrite 0 pH - 7.6 Alkalinity - 9 As you can see, my nitrate levels are slightly high, which could be causing my algae issues. I will try to stick to feeding every other day, and skimming slightly wetter to see if that helps. The main issue however is my pH and alkalinity. These are clearly slightly lower than would be considered ideal. How might I go about bringing them up a touch? I'll continue to test for a week and see if instability could be the cause of my Duncan issues. Any advice I'd be grateful of!

Hi All, I had a viewer write in asking me what an Ideal PH range is for a reef and how he could go about raising his PH. PH is one of those funny thing not many test unless they have a controller.. then some seem to obsess over it (i used to!). I ended up making a video for the guy and figured i would share it as i kind of did a brain dump on everything PH. hopefully it helps some of you guys out.

Hello everyone, I'm new to this forum and to this saltwater hobby. I have a 24g jbj nano cube with 1 blue damsel 4 turbo and 6 hermit crabs. It's been running for 2 weeks now and the Nitrites are high. I wanted to do water change on it to help lower the nitrites. I add seachem safe ever 24hrs. How much water change do you recommend for this 24 gallon tank? when I'm mixing salt , do i have to match the actual salinity in the tank or it needs to be within the range from the hydrometer? and does the PH matter every time i do WC? any recommendation on how to do it step by step? thank you guys!
