  1. My Steve's LED cooling fan is too loud (50-60 dB with all other equipment turned off). Does anyone know of a "how to" for replacing the fan with a quieter PC fan? Also, my stock lighting did not require a fan for the temperature to stay under 80 degrees, does Steve's LED run hotter than the stock PC bulbs? If not, does anyone know how to just turn off the power to the cooling fans? I am about ready to go back to the stock lighting if I can't resolved this. Thanks!
  2. Tidal 75

    Tidle 75

I haver 3 tidal 75 and they have working well for about several months now they are all on planted tanks and recently one started to make noise like it was holding back and then discharging waster with a whoosh sound. I took is apart and cleaned the impeller and all the insides I use the blue foam pad that comes with it usually a bag of Purigen and a bag of bio bits then top it with a sSeacham polishing filter. after cleaning it seemed to work fine but the audible whoosh sound is back and one of my other ones is starting as well any ideas??????? to much filter media? impeller not working properly? I can't figure it out any ideas help would be appreciated Frank
  3. Ok everyone I have been looking to replace my MJ1200 return pump for a silent one. We recently moved to a new studio apartment and noise has become an issue with it. I was looking around and there isn’t that much information as to what pumps fit comfortably and silently into the return chamber of this tank. the MJ1200 is , of course, discontinued, but the dimensions according to BRS are Dimensions - 6" x 3" x 2" it has been running for two years but we had a larger house before where the tank sat in a different room to where we sleep ...now here we are. the IM Mighty Jet (326gph) seems like an obvious choice, but it is $109. Not a problem but you do have to take a step back before you just dish out a hundred bux. I haven’t been able to find anyone using this pump in this tank, except for one snippet of a video on YouTube (scroll to 0:46) that shows it put into the tank, but only for a second and the pump looks like it doesn’t really fit except for an awkward placement where it is touching all the walls of the chamber.... doubt that will be very silent. But who knows...? The sicce silent line is pretty convincing but there are many mixed reviews out there. Some say it isn’t silent, others say the opposite. at this point, it isn’t the cost that is the issue, it’s the silence that I desperately seek. The tank has a Vortech mp10, so all I really need is to push water back into the tank, I would guesstimate ~200gph should do the trick...
  4. Help! I set up my 16-gallon Biocube yesterday and something is wrong with the pump that came with it. I currently have live rock, sand, a fluval fan, and saltwater in the tank. In the back I have media, a heater, and the pump the tank came with. I was expecting a hum noise from the pump but it is very loud. To the point we have to raise our voices to talk if we’re in the same room as the tank. It sounds like a very loud buzzing noise coming from the pump. I’ve tried moving it in the chamber and playing with the suction cups on the bottom of it and the noise still persists. Any advice on what to do or other pumps to try?
  5. Reefing009

    Aqamai KPS Powerhead

I just set up my Fluval Evo 13.5 and been upgrading the equipments right away. I bought the Aqamai KPS pump. It’s a nice little pump that have many programing flexibility. However, every time the pump speed up or turn on an off for the wave mode, it produces a loud humming noise. Is everybody pump the same? From the review I’ve been reading on these pump it’s supposed to be near silent. Did I get a dud? Thanks for reading!
  6. Hello, I've been a long time lurker and this is my first post. Let me explain my situation, I am a drummer (and a guitarist). I play the drums almost everyday, and let me say "a drumkit is a loud instrument". Once in a blue moon reaching around +100dB (around that of a firecracker), with an average volume of around +80dB (a very loud car or saw). I also am interested in getting a nano-reef aquarium. I would keep the tank in the same room as the drumkit. So, I was wondering if the loudness of my drumming may impact my fish in a negative way? Any info would be super helpful! Thanks, Luxembourg (I should also mention that the loudest part of the drums are the cymbals, which have high range frequencies. And I mute my bass drum, so that in comparison, it is not that loud. So I really only am worrying about the mid-high range frequencies.)
