Hello I’m new to this forum I’m setting up a 40 gallon reef tank it’s an all in one system that is going to be ran with light filtration I have a question regarding rocks tho I had a previous tank with some rocks that got infested with GHA and so I’ve been researching a lot on how to clean that, I ended up just putting hydrogen peroxide on them and rinsing them a ton. they looked okay but after putting them into the tank I noticed some residue. Just wondering if that’s a big deal and any further precautions I may want to take I plan on cycling for 2 months before adding anything besides CUC. Any help is much appreciated

Hello all! I'm going to start a fresh journal thread here for tracking my tanks progress and hopeful long term success, but equally any issues and failure along the way. I started posting in the cycle thread, and will continue to update there, but expect this will offer different insights. Goal is to create a GSP dominant tank....hold your laughter and comments of "....this guy" 😁, I've only ever kept FOWLR before, and that was about 15 years ago- much has changed and I want to go hardy. Plus, I'm mesmerized by the sway of a large clump of GSP. The side goal is to keep it as low tech as I can- only a heater, light and wave maker power this tank tech wise. This may change if I see degraded quality of water or life. I'll add more images of the setup and where I'm at now in a follow up post. This is at day 11, and my newly added snail crew has gone to town on the diatoms at the back already.

Is it okay for my firefish and cleaner shrimp to share their habitat? My shrimp has his own but prefers to be in the same live rocks as my firefish.

Hi is this worm reef safe? Will it harm my corals or fishes? There are 2-3 of these worms in my tank. Should i be worried?

When I first set up my tank the live rock I was sold was a piece of granite, I also got two pieces of dry rock (reclaimed coral). It has been over a year and the dry is now live. My question is, am I losing goid biological filtration or lack of minerals by having a large part of my rock granite. I have a 13.5 gal and half the rock is granite. Thanks

Hi! So I’m rather new to this and just setup our new nano reef - we are on week four (one week post cycle). Majority of the rock was added upon setup - and a few recently from the same LFS. IVE My question is, does it seem painted? I’m not as concerned about the calcareous algae as I am about it leeching into the water? The live rock tank it came from had some fish, and the rock is still covered in small sponges/live feather worms, as well as a 2 inch brittle star we found, but if I break it open it appears smooth and white. Is this still functional for beneficial bacteria? I’ve included some pics, any advice is appreciated!

First tank it's been running about 2 weeks with no fish. Tank has live rock on it. I just added Dr Tim's one and only and had the lights of for 48 hours. When I turned on the lights I noticed these white growths. Any idea what they are and what should be done.

So I’ve just set up my tank, and added live rock, there’s this thing sticking out of the live rock? It looks like it’s growing out of it.. what is this? Should I be worried?

Live rock from eBay for a pico tank. Looks like the equivalent of gas station sushi. I can deal with the aiptasia but if that’s bryopsis (see 2nd and 3rd picture) I will nuke it from orbit.

Hey everyone! Im new to this site and nanos in general and figured I would share my progress (hopefully) with you all. A little background about myself, I have been in the SW hobby for a little over five years now and currently have a 75 gallon mixed reef which is quickly becoming SPS dominate and a 40 gallon BTA tank. I have had my eye on the Waterbox AIO tanks for a while now and after seeing some of the builds on here I decided I needed to blow some money and get one for myself! 😉 This will be a new build from the ground up, but I will be moving the livestock from the 40 breeder into it once it has cycled. Equipment Waterbox 20 gallon cube AIO AI Prime HD Stock return pump (will upgrade to sicce down the road) Hydor nano powerhead ATO from 40 gallon Apex Jr from 40 gallon Getting this tread started a little late, but here are a few pictures to get started!....I may have forget to take pictures while I was building the cabinet. I placed an order for 25lbs of live rock from Tamp Bay Saltwater which I am really looking forward to getting. The supplied bioballs are marinating in the the sump of the 75 until the rock arrives. Not too shabby for a DIY stand, need to build the door....eventually amazed by the clarity of the starfire glass. Kicking things off with the good stuff!

What are these little anemone things all over my rock?
Camwolf1858 posted a topic in Pest and Disease Treatments
These little anemone looking things with white dots at the center and little fingers around it popped up all over my new live rock on the coralline algae. Anyone got an id? I can’t find anything online. -

Hello, new reefer here. I’ve had my fluvalevo set up for about four days now. It’s a stock set up for now with an aquaTOP 50w Heater. When I bought my live rock from my local fish store, one piece had some red spots on it. I assumed it was dead algae but it now seems to be growing hairs. Does anyone know what it is?

Hi, this is my first post and my first reef tank. Its been running for 3 weeks and all is good and well. I found some interesting critter living in my rock. I've been unable to identify ot on my own but maybe some wiser person might be able to help. What I know about it's behaviour: It looks like it hides by covering itself with a stoney looking plug. It has one long feeler that seems to just sway in the water column. Not much more. Thanks for your help!😁

hi guys about 10 years ago i had a 65 gallon reef that i loved! since moving to nyc i haven't set one up until now. which began as a very basic 10 gallon tank. a month in she started leaking which forced me to upgrade to something a little bigger but much nicer. so heres what i have. tank -IM nuvo 14 gallon heater-cobalt 100w lighting -current orbit marine led (light works great for the price and what i have for now) -finnex light (for refugium) filtration -purigen -chemipure -phosnet i also have the algae barn nano refugium kit. -finnex hob refugium i have about 17lbs of live rock i got from my LFS (pacific aquarium) 5lbs of live sand flow -sicce .5 silent pump (stock pump was too loud) nano koralia weekly water changes (about 2 gallons) the old tank is pictured first. i liked the rock work much more in the first tank. all together the tank is about 3 months old.

Hello everyone! Totally new to the forum here,I have a 17 gallon with around 16.5 pounds of LR, I was hoping someone could help me Id this thing,I suspect it’s a sponge but while doing research could not come across anything that looked like this,it has been on the rock since I put it in the tank,I didn’t remove it because I thought maybe it would grow into something neat, but the black on top has me suspicious that whatever it is has died, should I remove this? Thank you,I’m totally new to saltwater as you can tell

I want to redo my rockscape because I believe I have too much rock and the rock shapes don't give me enough usable surface area. What is the best way to go about doing this. Tank has been running since July 2017. I plan on keeping some of the rock but not all.

If anyone is central Maryland or DC area is interested I have ~3lbs extra real reef rock for free if you are willing to come pick up. As an aside, if anyone in the area has any Asterinas (Aquilonastra) micro starfish that you know (kinda) haven't eaten coral and clean algae, I would love to take them off you hands or purchase them for a small amount (the wife loves them).
