  1. Good evening, I am new to the forum but not to reefing. I am a member of Reef Chicks on Facebook, and have family members in the hobby as well. I have more experience with freshwater (about 8 years), but a year of saltwater reef hands-on experience. I am here to ask you guys humbly for frag/coral donations. Or fish. I’m located in Wisconsin. Advice on local reef groups is also appreciated! I had to disassemble my tank (Waterbox 10 cube AIO with fluval external filtration and UV sterilization) due to moving. Previously, I was getting into the hobby and am particularly fascinated by wellsos/trachy. I am currently expecting a child, but wanted to restart my tank to assist with stress management. However, I unfortunately lost my other corals due to a pest that came in with a shipment I got off of either eBay or ORA (it looked to be some sort of eunicid worms, along with other coral-eating flatworm parasites). Parameters were perfect, lighting was good, and everything was thriving, but then one day something had taken a chunk out of my clownfish’s head (I had no CUC, and two clowns and two mandarin dragonets). It was pulled toward the sandbed. A week and a half goes by, and my other fish die in the same way Needless to say, it was a bit sad and disheartening l, especially since I invested so much (time, effort, and resources). I recently moved and now have the opportunity and space to start anew. The only issue is, I’m hesitant to buy online again because of what happened. I don’t know of any local groups, and my family member just started her tank so has no extra frags. I was hoping to ask for frags/coral and any live donations. I would really appreciate it and would donate frags I grow in the future to reciprocate the donations to grow the community. Please forgive me if this isn’t an appropriate post, but I saw others asking for donations and figured it would be pragmatic to do the same. Kind regards and thank you in advance! All types are welcome. I have a Nero that can be turned on for high flow for sticks as well. Any advice is appreciated pictures of my old set-ups provided for tax ❤️
  2. So we got this little ocellaris clownfish about a week n half ago. He's about half the size of my full grown female in the tank and we were hoping for him to adjust to the tank and be ok. However just recently this week we noticed he wasn't really eating and staying in one spot. Which I've heard clowns tend to stay in one spot. But now he's got all these big white spots covering his body and if I'm looking correctly I think he's breathing heavily. He keeps hanging out at the top for a while before sinking down and hanging out at the floor of the tank. He's also just stayed floating in one spot before going vertucle with his head facing down. I'm super worried about him and I don't want him to die. Personally I know very few about fish tanks. This is my dad's tank. It's 215 gallons if I remember correctly and we've also got a blue damsel, and a blue tang along with the other clown. For information purposes there's hermit crabs, a shrimp and a new anemone in there as well. I'm begging for help on the situation. I shouldn't be this attached to this fish already so idk why I am. The second picture was him just a few minutes ago. I'm really worried. I'm pretty sure he's dying.
  3. Alright folks, I’ve got this cute little UNS 5N that I just love. Currently it has 0 inhabitants (besides pests lol) and I’d hate to break it down. What should I do with it?!
  4. So I just got a new pack of Tropic Marin classic salt. Its dKH is supposed to be 9-10 dKH, but when I mix it up it comes out to be 14 dKH!!!?!. I mixed and tossed that bag around when I first got it. Ive made two batches with the same results. I measured and used the correct salt portions: ½ cup per gallon and my refractometer read 1.025. Ive tried two different buckets. Ive used two test kits (Hanna checker and api) which both came out to 14dKH. Is there something im doing wrong? Bad batch? would appreciate the help.
  5. Help! My blenny just died today and molly a few days ago as well as two hermits. Tanks about 1-2 months old. Been moving some rocks and putting vinyl on the back. Blenny wasn’t eating last night or this morning and died today. Any idea what’s going on?

    Wavemaker Placement

Hi I'm new to the saltwater hobby (coming from 4 years in freshwater experience) and I need help with the placement of my wavemaker. I'm planning on getting corals in the next few months and I want to ensure they have the best environment I can provide. So far I've made my own reefscape with dry rock and now I'm wondering what kind of powerhead I should be using and where to position it? I have a 20 gallon tall aquarium and only has a clownfish and blue legged crab. My main concern is where to place my wavemaker and whether or not I may need two.
  7. Hello, I am semi new to this hobby. I started a few years ago when I purchased used aquariums in Hawaii. The cycling process had already been completed and I just had to learn to maintain the fish. This time I’m starting new. Years down the line after I had let go of the tanks and move with the army. Now I’m back and I want to learn all I can about cycling my tank. I have a 32 gal coralife BioCube. I thought since the sump was already built in it wouldn’t be too much of a problem to get started back up. So far the tank has been put together with carab sea arag live-sand and life rock. I have done lots of research on what’s best to help jump start the cycle. I also added This Fritz-Zyme turbo start bacteria. The only thing is I’m still confused on what media I’m supposed to use. I seen a bunch of in tank videos and love to watch BRS. But I feel like they only tell you about what to use after the cycling is complete so what type of media do you use? I’m pretty sure the media I am using is for after the tank is cycled. Right now I have chemi-pure elite and Purigen in media bags my sump I also bought a comline doc 9000 skimmer but I’m not running it right now. What should I use to cycle with and do I keep my skimmer off like I have been doing? My parameters have not really changed except for my nitrites which went up to .50 and it’s been about a week. PH Range 8.2 Ammonia .50ppm Nitrite 0 Nitrate 10ppm
  8. I am pretty new to this. my tank in cycled ammonia, Nitrite, 0. and Nitrate 1-5. I had tiny black worms in my tank, they looked as if they were just sitting on the sand maybe dead. They were a bit thick and only about a 1/4 long. I am not sure what they were I just vacuumed them all out so I dont have a picture. Any idea what they are?
  9. TL;DR Two of my six year old fish suddenly died a week apart for no apparent reason in my three year old reef tank but all of my snails, crabs, and corals are fine. So I have a Nuvo Fusion 40 that has been running for almost three years now. The tank’s inhabitants include astrea snails, banded trochus snails, blue leg hermits, a scarlet skunk shrimp, a royal gramma, and a snowflake clown fish. About a month ago I added a total of eight frags of LPS and SPS to a frag rack on the left wall of my tank to acclimate them slowly. I did dip them all in Coral RX Pro (and then in a cup of tank water to remove any dip residual) prior to adding. I don’t know if its worth mentioning, but it would appear that some small brittle starfish made it with the coral, as I’ve noticed a number of brittle starfish peaking out from within my live rock that I defiantly did not have before. I also added a pajama cardinal that appeared healthy and ate regularly. Two weeks ago I noticed that my royal gramma did something very odd. For the last three years my RG slept between two pieces of live rock in the back left of the tank. The clown fish for the last three years slept near the RG behind the rock structure but more near the center of the water column. Always. Two weeks ago however, the RG burrowed out a little hole in the sand underneath an overhang of live rock at the front of the tank. The RG subsequently slept there every night since. A week ago (01/18/20) I found the RG dead and being eaten by my hermit crabs in the corner of the tank. Additionally, the pajama cardinal suddenly disappeared. I checked the rear compartments of my tank, the surrounding floor and all over my display area to no avail. For the last week (after the RG died) the clown fish suddenly started sleeping in the RG’s new sleeping spot at the front of the tank. This morning I saw my clown fish looking perfectly normal before I left for work. When I got home today, about eight hours later, my clown fish was dead on the floor of the tank with hermit crabs crawling over him. He looked freshly dead when I removed him, with no bite marks. I checked the clown fish and I did not observe any signs of sickness or damage that would lead me to believe the fish had died by a physical attack or obvious disease. Additionally, my parameters have been pretty stable- aside from an algae outbreak I’ve been dealing with (only by scrubbing/blowing off the rocks each week with a water change- I never use any chemicals). My parameters have been pretty stable overtime, and my current numbers are as follows: Magnesium: 1360 Calcium: 440 Alkalinity: 8.79 PH: 8.28 Temp: 77.8 Salinity: 34 ORP: 260 (which is normal for my tank) Ammonia: - Nitrate: - It should be noted that my PH/Temp/Salinity/ORP is monitored/measured by an Apex system, my Mag/Calc is measured with a Red Sea Pro kit, and my Alk is measured with a Hannah checker. I also have a Aquamax HOB-1 protein skimmer thats been running on the tank since it was started. As for ammonia and nitrate, I unfortunately ran out last week and have two kits on order; but I sincerely doubt I currently have a dangerous amount of either as I do regular 30% water changes every two weeks (and even did a water change four days ago). I also have a bag of Chemipure Elite and a premade bag of purigen in a rear chamber of my tank (which are the only two things I've ever used). I never use any candles or sprays near the tank, and I only ever wipe down the tank glass with RODI water and a clean paper towel. The tank is also next to a rear glass slider (which has a screen door), so periodically it gets fresh air from outside as it has for the last few years (nothing new). I am currently baffled as to what has caused two very hearty fish I’ve had for six years to suddenly die a week apart for no apparent reason (and a third new fish to disappear). Especially when all of my hermit crabs, shrimp, snails, and corals appear perfectly fine. My inverts and roaming around the tank doing their thing and my corals are open, colored, and appear happy. The only possible thing I can think of is there is some sort of predator I've missed that caused my royal gramma to suddenly change its sleeping spot and then make the clown fish change too- but I have no idea what on earth that could be. I've seen no such animal and I've heard no weird clicking noises. Has anyone been through something similar or have any ideas as to what on earth could be the cause? I tried my best to answer any situational questions but please feel free to ask if there's a detail I missed.
  10. I bought a tiger pistol shrimp and I can’t tell if he is dead or not. I acclimated the shrimp for 3 hours and followed all the necessary steps. My PH is at 8, nitrate 0 and ammonia at 0. The shrimp was perfectly fine all day but it got scared and went on it’s side. He seems to occasionally move his underside but I can’t tell if his dead or alive.

    Is my coral happy?

I just got my first coral, it’s spotted mushroom from live aquaria. I’ve read their instructions on placement and water flow, but I’m wondering, how do I know if these corals are happy/doing well? How do I know if I should move them to a different place in the tank?

    Cant setup Nanobox light

Bluefish app will not configure light . Just keeps spinning and times out with error. I saw Dave mention the 2.4 ghz router thing but my comcast router has not such 5 or 2.4 choice on it. Light is a paperweight right now
