  1. Considering options for a nano tank setup with a pair of clownfish, bubble tip anemone and CUC. My current idea is a 16 gal Biocube with light upgrade (Steve’s/NanoBox LED). Saw a few post that may suggest this is too small. What do you all think?
  2. I purchased a used biocube 14 and have had it up and running for about 4 months now. As of right now i have a few snails/ hermit crabs, a cleaner shrimp, a clownfish, a few beginner corals, and a BTA. I’ve had my bubble tip for about a month now and he was doing fine until about a week ago. I live in texas so it gets pretty hot here, so even w the AC on my tank was getting up to 83 degrees. It took me a few days but i was able to finally control the temperature. My BTA anemone started to look like he was about to die but once i was able to stabilized the temperature it seemed like he was starting to look healthier. I did some maintenance on my tank and i ended up moving a rock he was on a a little bit & i adjusted my wave maker and it caused him to move again. For the past 2 days he’s been moving every night and looks like he is about to die. I know if they die in a tank it is very bad for the water and you must get the BTA out immediately. I really don’t want it to die, and i don’t know if i’ll be able to be around to get it out in time in case it releases any toxins that could kill my fish/ coral. Any advice on what to do about my bubble tip? For my tank, all my parameters have been normal and stable. My fish and coral are doing fine again, but my BTA is not looking too good.
  3. Hey! Anyone in the Milwaukee area looking for some healthy livestock check out my craigslist. I'm in college right now and Im about to intern out of country for a conservation project an cannot take care of these fellas. Just need a good home for them. Im asking 180 but Im willing to work with the right respectful buyer  Also here is a video I shot of the tank on 1/11/18 for some more views of the livestock.  Thanks!   https://milwaukee.craigslist.org/for/d/looking-for-home-for-corals/6446016679.html  Â
  4. I'm Batman

    BTA Splitting?

So I purchased this green Bubble Tip Anemone from a fellow reefers about 8 months back. In my old tank he grabbed foot right away and stayed there for about a month. He lets loose about every other month and then finds footing again a couple days later. Each time time after he lets loose I try everything I can to keep him from getting sucked into the intake, but once I think he's grabbed footing at 4am I finally get to bed then wake a few hours later to find him jammed up in the intake or powerhead. This is a whole other thread all together... I met up with the guy I bought him from and told my story... turns out, this is particular anemone is a split from his most favorite anemone he's ever had that splits about 3-4 times a year. He he says it lets loose and then splits a day or two after. Well I was up (not quite till 4) Monday night after he let loose again trying cohearse him back to the rocks and decided to let him do his thing. He developed this light pale whitish mark on his side last night after he grabbed footing. This evening climbs back behind the rocks and it looks as if he's splitting.... pics attached... I'm wondering if all the other times it let loose, he was going to split but got thrown off because of the intake/powerhead trauma. Last night Today
  5. 4 month update after lighting upgrade to stock hood: May 13, 2018: SPS growing really nicely! Thicker & better coloration too! Compare these pictures to the older ones. Update: January 22, 2018: Upgrades: - Aquamai KPS Wavemaker - Current USA 12" Truelumen Pro LED bars (x2) and 10" LED strips (x2). This is in addition to the stock Fluval light. Total wattage 40.2 watts - Current USA Single, Dual and Dual Pro Ramp Timers - Smart ATO Micro Auto Top-off System - Aquatic Life 115 Protein Skimmer - inTank Chamber 2 Media Basket - Inkbird Aquarium Dual Stage Temperature Controller + NTC Sensor - Hydor Centrifugal Pump 300gph (it's not much stronger than stock pump, although smaller) - Green Killing Machine Mini 3W UV - Fluval Edge 25W heater (The room is fairly warm all year so don't really need much heating) Filter Media: Purigen, Matrix, inTank Poly Filter Floss --- March 4th, Day 1, tank goes live & cycling: April 5th, one month after: It's been a bit over a month since I setup this tank and it's my very first reef tank. I've been in the freshwater world for over a decade (currently have a 55g Discus tank) and decided to take the plunge and setup a reef. I'm running the stock lighting for now and it seems pretty decent. Even my SPS are starting to show new growth although the coloration isn't too good. Here are the additions/upgrades I've done so far: - Fluval P2 Protein Skimmer - Hydor Koralia Nano 425gph - Hydor Centrifugal Pump 300gph (it's not much stronger than stock pump, although smaller) - Green Killing Machine Mini 3W UV - Fluval Edge 25W heater (The room is fairly warm all year so don't really need much heating) Filter media: Purigen and Phosguard I got 17 different corals (mostly frags) right now including quite a few SPS. Cleanup crew consists of 5 snails, 3 hermit crabs, emerald crab and a blood red fire shrimp. And an acid rain bubble tip Anemone!
