I got into this hobby a few years ago with a BioCube 32 and fell in love. My tank had to be broken down after a few months, but my love for the hobby never faded. Fast forward a few years and I'm ready to get back into the hobby. I knew I wanted another AIO and wasn't committed to another BioCube until I saw one posted locally that hadn't sold in quite some time. It came with Steve's LED upgrade and the WiFi controller, so I was sold. I picked the tank up yesterday and went to work right away on my reefscaping. I'm excited about how it's turned out but unsure if I'll be going any higher with the rockscape. The rockscape was built in the tank. I have two larger caves and some arches. My original plan was to go reef only, mainly SPS, but I'd like to add a pair of clowns and a Royal Gramma at some point so I wanted to include a few hiding spots. I glued the rocks into place and went back and added epoxy. Once that cures, I'm going to be giving the tank a good cleaning and remove the bioballs still in the back. Equipment plan is heater and protein skimmer in chamber 1, inTank basket in chamber 2 (possible fuge basket in chamber 2 at later date) and return pump in chamber 3. I also may try to fit a Mean Green Machine in there somewhere.

So I am looking to raise both my alkalinity and calcium. I tested them both yesterday and my alk was 6.1 and my calcium was at 274. I have seen people use kalkwasser to do through their ATO but i know this can lead to unsteady dosing and I really am not looking to add dosing pumps to my 32 gallon biocube. Are there any products that I can manually dose straight into the tank that anyone has experience with?

Hello nano-reef friends! I wanted to write up an intro post and get into the community. I've been lurkin' for a few weeks now and thought it was time to start partaking in the discussion. 🙂 For a quick intro, I've been keeping freshwater tanks on and off for about 10 years now. I was always intimidated by the saltwater side of the hobby because of the startup/ongoing costs and perceived "complicated-ness" of it. I always thought that for a successful reef tank you need a really big aquarium (like, 100+ gallons) with a sump and multiple other products that I'd never even heard of when setting up my freshwater tanks. But then I found this forum and was totally inspired and given hope by the countless beautiful and flourishing AIO tanks that you guys have shared! I loved the idea of having one tank with a section in the back (or side, for peninsula styles!) as a place to keep everything you need. Turns out you don't actually NEED a protein skimmer, reactors, and a separate sump! Anyway, now that I'm a few weeks into my research phase, I've learned a TON and have come to a few decisions about what I'd like for my first little reef: 1. I know I want to have a system with softies and LPS corals. Some that I've really been drawn to are zoas, acans, and gorgonians. I only want non-aggressive species because I hate the idea of my corals hurting each other! 2. I want an AIO system that isn't too big, to make maintenance/water changes as simple as possible (for some reason the idea of making my own saltwater is super intimidating!). The two I have my eye on and am still having trouble deciding between are the Fluval Evo 13.5 gallon and the Biocube 16 gallon. I want something that comes with a lid/lighting built in to reduce evaporation and keep costs down on needing to buy separate LEDs. 3. I really like macroalgae - probably from the fact that all my freshwater tanks are planted and the aquascaping is my favourite part of them. Not sure if I'll include any in my first reef tank, but I'll probably want some down the line for their beautiful colours and added benefits for water quality. 4. I want to keep the filtration as natural as possible (spent a lot of time on Algae Barn's website/blog). I'd prefer to rely more on a refugium instead of a host of chemical media. 5. I freaking love tailspot blennies. Anyway - that's probably enough rambling for now (thank you for reading this far!). Would appreciate thoughts/advice on deciding between the Evo and the Biocube, or any other general advice for a newbie reefer. 🙂

Hello! Newbie here! I just bought a BioCube 32 gallon and stand that was gently loved by someone else but was moving out of state and took the tank down. It came with a wave maker, protein skimmer, and a bunch of accessories I haven’t even delved into yet. Any tips on getting it started back up?

Question about stocking my 32 gallon Biocube. Planning on having easy corals like zoas, polyps, xenia, etc)Thinking about the following fish:-1 pink-streaked wrasse-1 royal gramma basslet-1 electric indigo dottyback-Pair of bonded clownfish-1 diamond watchman goby (part of CUC?)CUC: Hoping to add 1 emerald crab & 1 blood shrimp as part of CUC with some snails. I'm also not quite sure what snails to add to make my CUC complete. I'm planning on doing 10% water changes weekly.Any thoughts/advice appreciated!

Hello all, I’ve been into saltwater nano tanks sense 2018 but due to living in a apartment I didn’t want to take the plunge. Well now I own a home and I’m very excited to start journey and document it. First I must give credit where it is due. Thank you @Jackal227for your very well documented and researched journal. It has paved the way for me. Tank: Biocube 16 gallon Saltbox: Red Sea coral pro salt Aquascape: 17lbs Caribsea life rock Sand: Caribsea Arag-Alive Fiji Lighting: Stock Powerhead: Hydros 425 Filtration: Intank media basket with Filter floss, Purigen and Seachem matrix. I plan to add chaeto when I add the CuC, hoping to get a stable copepod population. Heater: Eheim Hagar 75 watt with ITC 308 temp controller Tank mods: Removed false door in chamber #1, removed tab between chamber #1 and #2 Planned CuC: Spoke to John at reef cleaner and was suggested -10 dwarf ceriths -3 nassarius vibex -4 Florida ceriths -3 hermits -3 nerites Planned fish: -Pair of clowns -1 Neon blue goby if I can create a stable copepod population Planned coral: -Zoa’s -Primarily softies -Hammer, Frogspawn and Torch Longterm plan: I hope to use the knowledge and experience gained to set up and maintain a 80 to 100 gallon in the near future

Help! I set up my 16-gallon Biocube yesterday and something is wrong with the pump that came with it. I currently have live rock, sand, a fluval fan, and saltwater in the tank. In the back I have media, a heater, and the pump the tank came with. I was expecting a hum noise from the pump but it is very loud. To the point we have to raise our voices to talk if we’re in the same room as the tank. It sounds like a very loud buzzing noise coming from the pump. I’ve tried moving it in the chamber and playing with the suction cups on the bottom of it and the noise still persists. Any advice on what to do or other pumps to try?

Hello, long time aquarist new Reefer. I’m really wanting to set up a Nano reef. I’ve kept Fish only salt water tanks, and plenty of freshwater. But never gotten into coral. I really want to ease into it. And figured one of the All in One systems where the way to go. Plus the esthetic of it is pleasing. I feel like I’m stuck between the Waterbox Mini Peninsula 25 and the Bio Cube 32. But I’m open to other suggestions I’d like to stay right around that 30 range. Is there any major differences between the smaller all in ones that could be game changers? I'm really just looking for suggestions comments or maybe even other all in one systems I haven’t looked at.

Picked up a 32 gal biocube locally from a guy for what I consider a good deal (if not a steal). I got the tank, stand, media and refugium baskets for the back, wave maker, heater, attached grow light in back for macro and best of all, upgraded light system. It’s upgraded with the Steve’s LED turbo system with the hurricane x controller and iridescent booster. He also sent me home with about 10lbs of rock to seed the new tank with. this isn’t technically my first reef tank, I ventured in about a year ago with a 13 evo. It went great for about 6 months until I had a crash. Soon after I ended up moving across the country. The. Covid happened and just, I stepped back for a while. However this is really only my second go at it, but I’m really excited about it! I’ll take any advise offered and any input, I’m still learning so much. I’m most excited about the upgraded tank size and lights. It seems as though the sky is the limit as far as the light are concerned. I have a specific love for torches and rics. But I want to try maybe a monti, some sps in time, in addition to many softies and lps. I also intend to do another nem. I had a turquoise bubble tip in my 13 before it crashed and I enjoyed it very much. I have spent the day moving the tank around the apartment trying to decide on a location. Atm it’s in its forever location, I believe. It’s right next to my desk for optimum viewing, but also there is a fantastic side view from the couch right next to it. Hoping to create a diverse enough scape that I can enjoy it from either angle. I’ve got the tank and some supplies, waiting for an order to come in with 25 lb of dry rock (in addition to the 10 or so lb I already have). Sand, epoxy, salt. I’ve already got a second wave maker from my evo, test kits and prime. I’ve also ordered an RO/di unit that is supposed to come in the same day as everything else. Fingers crossed. My goal is to do this as right as possible this time around. at the moment trying to decide what to run filtration wise. I feel like this is such a widely debated topic with everyone having such diverse opinions. Filter floss is a given. I’ve got a chamber and grow light for macro so I feel that’s also a given. Anything beyond that is undecided. I know purigen is a popular choice. As for right now I’m also undecided on inhabitants. The only thing I know for certain is a canary wrasse (one of my all time fave) and likely a pair of clowns (how original an idea is that? 😅). Beyond that I’m unsure. I know many will recommend a Goby/pistol shrimp combo, but I’ve done that before and would like something different. I’m not rushing it. I’ll find something I like. anyways. Hello - I’m in the market for a 20g tank. I’ve come across a lot of article but no real consensus. im closely looking at the Waterbox cube. Cube style is the best for my setup. It sounds like Red Sea is the gold standard but it’s about twice as much (?). I would appreciate recommendations on what brand of AIO tank to go with. Thanks!

Intro Hey everyone, I've done freshwater tanks for the past few years but this is my first foray into saltwater. My fiancée's father has a 120g that piqued my interest and the ongoing pandemic convinced me to pull the trigger on a new project. After considering my options, I went with the Biocube 16g for a few reasons: 1) I like the dimensions and I want to use the additional vertical space compared to other nano tanks; 2) I plan to use the stock LEDs and it seems the consensus on the forums is the presence of the hood minimizes evap so I don't need an ATO system, both of which helped me keep the cost of the tank down, and 3) it was slightly bigger than other nano options and I felt that would expand my livestock options. Just got everything set up and took a quick picture, planning to start cycling very soon. Specs Tank: Biocube 16 gallon Salt Mix: Fritz Reef Pro Mix Sand: Caribsea Aragamax Select Lighting: Stock LED hood Powerhead: Jebao OW-10 Wave Maker When I first put this into the tank it was definitely running louder than expected. I took it out, disassembled it, and just put it back together to see if that would help align things. Worth it, put it back it and it's been super quiet. Now I just have to get the right angle/power combo so it's not pushing the sand out of the corners! Heater: BRS 100w heater (chamber 1) Biological Filtration: ~1/2 liter Seachem Matrix (chamber 3) Chemical Filtration: Chemipure Blue (chamber 2) Mechanical Filtration: Poly Filter (chamber 2) Tank Modifications: removed false bottom in chamber 1; expanded chamber 1 overflow cutout I struggled with removing the false bottom, my recommendation would be to hook something like big curved scaping tweezers in the gap by the back-right corner; you can pop it out with some upward force, then pull it out with the tweezers. I first tried pulling the rails out, which not only did not release the false bottom but also scattered bits of plastic in the bottom of chamber 1, which I then had to pick out of the sand once I started filling the tank. Do not recommend. I also struggled to expand the overflow cutout without demolishing the whole thing. I ended up using wirecutters to make a vertical cut along the side, then a second horizontal cut toward the bottom to cleanly cut the piece off. While this worked better than I expected (after a few attempts), make sure your circulation isn't running when you do this, as I had the plastic go into the second chamber. Luckily it just landed on my filter floss so it was easy to remove. For sale my Biocube 32 loaded with upgrades: Replaced all lighting with a led array w wifi control with schedule and fitted it inside the canopy. Upgraded return pump to Syncra 2.0 568 gph, super silent. Intank media basket and fuge basket. 2 Koralia nano powerheads. Hydor smart level ATO. ATO pump and reservoir. Digital thermometer and magnetic scrapper. All in perfect working conditions, tank was up and running until 2 weeks ago when I bought a new RSR 250 and transferred all over. I ran this tank for 5 years not a single fish lost and coralline grow was impressive.Tank and equipment was only rinsed with water and tried to scrap most of the coralline, you can do a citric acid wash and everything will look brand new.Perfect for first tank or QT AIO tank.All for $350 obo

So... a local buyer was having a deal on a Coral Beauty angelfish. I have a 30G cube tank but now I'm hearing that it might be too small. I did do my research and many people advicated on allowing a baby coral beutty to be in there but I just want to make sure I didn't make a mistake. I'm planning on purchasing a larger reef tank (70-80G) in the next few months. I only have 1x Clown, 1x Sleeper goby & 1 Cleaner shrimp... The coral beauty I got is approx. 1in in length. There is enough rockwork to hide behind. I do have some LPS & zoas. Will she be ok in my current tank util I get my bigger one? Should I just keep her in the 20-30G long QT tank? or Should I sell her?

Hello all! Thanks for readimg, I just have a quick question. I plan on filling my biocube 16 tonight and I'm not sure what filtration to run through the cycle. I initially planned on doing filter floss on top, and maybe the matrix media for the cycle? I also have pyrogen and carbon but not sure if it should be added right away during cycle. Also, can someone tell me how the mechanical filtration goes on top? Stupid noob question lol but not sure if it goes on top of this top part, or directly under it? And finally, I removed the sponge in between chamber 2 and 3 and am planning on running some carbon there. Thanks in advance!

Hello everyone! Newbie here entering the 365 day challenge. This is going to be a 16g coralife biocube I just received from marineandreef. They had an amazing sell, and I just could not pass it up. I currently have a 54g corner tank in my living room, which was my first saltwater tank and was established 07/2019. I'm still a newbie and am hoping for the best. Even if I am not considered a finalist later, I'm hoping to meet some awesome people and gain some great advice! Reef on, my friends!

Hello all, new to this forum and the nano community. I currently have a 54 Gal Aqueon corner tank, which was my first saltwater tank. I have successfully had that tank running from July 2019 and in that time, I instantly fell in love with owning and maintaining ( weird, I know) a saltwater aquarium, its almost therapeutic. I find myself now always looking for places to put a tank in my small ish home and I decided to look for nano for my bedroom. Marineandreef had a sweet deal for the 16 biocube with stand for $269 (after discount and sale) and I decided it was time to expand ha. After convincing wifey (really just ordering and apologizing after), I found myself tracking and waiting. Fast fwd to today, I have the stand set up in the corner of our room with the nano boxed back up ( did not want the toddlers to move it around and possibly drop it empty). I am currently studying, reading the journals and ordering the necessary items needed to begin the tank and start the cycle (so much fun, bleh). Enough backstory, the following will be about the nano I decided to start a journal from the very beginning of this nano to notate what is planned and get advice. As far as Filtration, I have decided to use the included basket for now with the following in order: Poly Filter Floss SeaChem Purigen SeaChem Matrix bio-media in bag (obviously) I have contemplated so much on the filtration and am open to any suggestions. I do not think I will be doing a refug at this time, so that will not be currently considered. The Heater I have decided to go with is the Aqueon Pro 100W, which will be placed in the 1st chamber after false floor is removed. Rock & Substrate: Walt Smith Reef Rock 2.1 20lb dry purple rock Carribsea fiji pink live sand 20lb I do plan on taking some of the smaller pieces of live rock from my current 54 gal to assist in seeding nano. Wavemaker will be the Jebao SW2. This is the brand I currently use on my 54 Gal, and have had no issues and love the controllers for them. I do not plan on modifying the led lighting just yet. Also, I will NOT be running a skimmer on this nano at this time, as I don't mind maintenance and will be planning on weekly 5 gal water changes. Now, Salt.. When I started my 54 gal, I initially went with IO salt as I was not planning on having coral, but of course I was seduced by the beauty.. now I am wanting to switch to some type of high quality reef salt for both tanks. I am leaning more towards Red Sea Coral Pro Salt, I would love any input on this! As far as livestock, I am planning on having 2 designer clownfish (havent really decided on type yet) and maybe a firefish or goby, also undecided lol I will have a clean up crew consisting of a couple trochus, cerrith and maybe astrea snails as well as a couple hermits and debating on a fighting conch. I am undecided on which corals I will be adding just yet, as I want to aquascape first and see where I can place them, which will better determine what I decide on. Hey all! I'm new to saltwater, but not new to freshwater. I've kept aquariums for as long as I can remember, of all kinds of sizes. Whenever I was a kid, my mother set up a saltwater tank, long story short it didn't go so well. I hope to create something far better than that. I've been doing research for two months now and am excited to say I am now an owner of a Coralife Biocube 32. I ordered it off of marine and reef during their 15% Black Friday sale. Right now I'm just waiting for my dry rock and RODI system to get here before I get the tank wet.

Hello everyone! Wanted to introduce and show my tank. Started about 10 months ago, first tank. Took a while to stabilize with lots of early mistakes, but now is doing well. Got lots of information from this website and wanted to say thanks! Tank Specs: Display: Coralife BioCube 16 gal Stand: Coralife BioCube 16 Stand Rock: LFS dried former live rock Sand: CaribSea Ocean Direct (used the whole bag) Lighting: Stock Biocube 16 LED Heater: none, but have Chill Solutions Chiller, keep temp stable at 79.5 F Circulation: Cobalt MJ1200 return, Small return pump (~150gph) for chiller, 2 Hydor Koralia pumps with Hydor Smart Wave controller Skimmer: nah Filtration: InTank Media Basket , stock cotton+carbon Biocube cartridges Filter Media: Top to bottom: Purigen, Chemipure Elite, Seachem Matrix Top Off: dont get much evaporation with that lid, so I just top off whenever I see one of the return pumps outside the water in the back chamber Dosing: dont dose, use Tropic Marin Pro salt and do a 1 gallon water change every Friday (regardless of parameters) Parameters: Ca = 440-460 ppm range, Alk = 7.0 – 8.0 dKH, Mg = >1400 Salinity = 36 ppt

Hi all! I'm new to saltwater aquariums but not new to freshwater. I've been keeping freshwater all of my life, from 150gals to having 10 tanks at once. Now I live on the third floor of an apartment complex with a 20gal long planted tank filled with shrimp and a betta. Basically I'm trying to say I have a good amount of knowledge on basic stuff. I've been trying to decide on what aquarium I should get for saltwater reefing. I've been looking at the Coralife Biocube 32, as I found a kit that comes with an ATO, protein skimmer, and wavemaker, all for around $700. So this would still allow me to buy all the other essentials like heater and ro/di system on my budget, and possibly upgrade the light if need be. But I have been told it's not the best tank because of the curved glass, which often cracks. I've been recommended innovative marine tanks and red sea tanks. The innovative marine tank that is 30 gallons is a lot longer than what I was wanting, and it with a stand costs as much as the biocube kit. So I would still need to get the protein skimmer and all of that. Now the Red Sea Max E-170 is absolutely gorgeous. It comes with a built in protein skimmer, and comes with amazing lights. It has two filter outputs, so I don't think I would need a wavemaker. But the tank and stand is $1,365, which is WAY more than I was planning on spending for the tank alone. So my dilemma is: is the biocube good enough? Should I save up for the innovative marine or red sea tank instead? Do any of you have experience with these tanks: good or bad? Hello! I recently decided to start my very first saltwater tank. Growing up I had a few freshwater tanks, but they were your “average joe let’s go to PetsMart and get a tank” tank. I grew up on the water and have always had a deep love for the ocean. So much so that I have it tattoo’d on my entire left arm 🤗. Since I’ve never cared for a saltwater mini ecosystem before! I dove into the internet and a few few books to learn as much as I can. It is through that process that I found this site and learned the most. I realized that experience is the best way to learn, but maybe my experience with this can help someone else kickstart their adventure. I ended up going with the BioCube 16 because I love the all in one package and the programmable lights. I would’ve preferred the 32, but weight restrictions with my stand kept me at 16......for now. 😬 Tank:. I was wondering if anyone could give me some advise or anything actually that will help me with an old Oceanic Biocube. The tips I keep finding are very old so I just wanted to know if those are still acceptable or if there is new information I could use?
