  1. Hi everyone This is my first try at a saltwater tank. I have been keeping freshwater for around 6 years now. I have kept a Discus tank, Oscars and other SA cichlids and now I am trying a reef tank! Very pumped and nervous. So here where I am currently. the tank has been up running for 1 week. It is a Aquatop Recipe 24 gallon AIO system. It came with a foam sponge thing in the 1st chamber, some carbon & some ceramic rings, and a cheap-looking skimmer. So far everything is running smoothly, but I'll probably upgrade the skimmer down the road and maybe change out the foam for something else. Just using the lighting that came with for now. I used Caribsea live sand and just cheap reef starter dry rock from my LFS. I added the 2 Clownfish on the 3rd day and added a bottle of Dr Tim's. Today's water test showed Ammonia of (I think) .25. It was very close on the color chart. Nitrates were at 5 PPM. Temp 79.2 Salinity 36. I know I need to bring that down, but slowly, correct? I do plan on having corals at some point. I am getting RODI from my LFS. It tested 5 TDS. I know you want ZERO, but I'll have to live with it for now. I hate the heater in the tank. The cobalt heater I ordered, which will go in the return chamber was delayed in shipping, so I had to use an extra heater I had at home. I am sure I have made mistakes already and will make many more, but I am open to any and all help/suggestions!

    Aquatop 12 Gallon Long

Starting this build thread of my Aquatop 12 gallon long rimless reef. After being out of the hobby for 5 years, I decided to get back in and combine it with my woodworking hobby by building my own stand. Which will house a DIY 10 gallon sump/refugium. 3. 8 days ago I put live sand, live rock, and a premixed saltwater into my 24 gallon tank. It has a built in sump in the back with various media and a skimmer. I have been regularly testing salinity, ph, ammonia, nitrites, nitrates, and alkalinity. PH always reading between 7.8 and 8.0 ammonia hasn’t budged from .25ppm nitrate and nitrite are both 0 alkalinity at 180 I noticed my salinity was low which surprised me since the water came from my local fish store. I played around, taking about half a gallon out and adding more concentrated mix of Red Sea salt and regular RO water. It’s at 1.0235 Per the advice of someone at the fish store I added chemi pure elite to my filtration media tonight. What am I missing here? Should I put a piece of raw shrimp in there? Am I just being impatient? I didn’t expect my tank to be cycled already, just some noticeable changes in ammonia at least. Any suggestions?
  4. Hey everyone! Newbie here looking to grow my knowledge of all things saltwater. My husband loves his large reef tank and he just surprised me with this nano tank to peak my interest. The details: we added the aragonite sand, live rock, and premix yesterday. I tested today and my ph is 8.0, ammonia is about .135ppm, nitrites 0 ppm, and nitrates 0 ppm! My husband says he thinks it takes about to weeks to break the skimmer in. So far it’s mostly filling up with water instead of bubbles. Even with nothing moving around in there, I find myself staring. I’m so excited just dreaming about all the possibilities of this tank! I think I love the fact that it’s my own responsibility and reward. Im ready to do the work!
  5. Hey guys, I'm quite new here and I've been having some troubles as to which tank would be the better buy and any recommendations of the two. So lately I have been wanting to get a new tank and as I walked into my LFS I noticed that they were setting up some newer nano tanks. This tank was the Aquatop Recife 24g tank and stand combo, it is an AIO that comes with a light and protein skimmer included for only $400. However, I have also been looking quite extensively at Innovative Marine's Fusion 25g lagoon tank AIO which is $250 but does not come with a stand, light, or skimmer, however, I would probably build the stand on my own. Now I have an Innovative Marine 10g Nuvo nano tank at the moment with a Kessil A80 tuna blue light on it as well as a fluval sea ps1 protein skimmer which I was thinking about maybe swapping over but I'm still not too knowledgeable when it comes to saltwater and the difference between some tanks. I plan on growing some corals and having fish in here as well. Any help or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all!! Aquatop PV40-UV on JBJ 28

Anyone have experience with this HOB UV? I got one for 40 bucks, and its reviews were just as good as ones that were a lot more expensive. Was also thinking of putting some kind of bio media in it, like Xport or something. This will hopefully be setup with my Remora S skimmer. Both of which are ordered but not here yet. Just doing some homework! Thanks.

    Pump reduction advice

Hello, i have ave been using an aqualifyer pump for approx 6-7 months and constantly need to clean it to keep the lift enough. I think I am topped off (pardon the pun) on my reach. I recently (after some advice of some friends) bought an aquatop 317 to use as an ato. I realize I'll have to hate the flow down to use it with my hydor sensor but my question is as far as plumbing...what's the best way and hardware required to neat and cleanly not have a giant piece of garden hose into the top of my tank since I don't have a sump?
