    Crazy Algae Issue

I'd say I'm about an intermediate level reefer by now. My 29 gallon has been set up for about 16 months. By asking on this forum a while back I realized that my phosphate levels where very low. That was a few months ago. Since then I have been dosing NeoPhos for phosphate, since it kept dropping back toward zero quickly, so I would dose every day. I also started dosing some coral food with trace elements maybe 6 weeks ago. Also over the past 5 months I have added 3 fish, since I only had 3 to begin with, in hopes I could increase the phosphate levels "naturally". What I have noticed is that the corals seem to love the higher nutrient levels. Since learning how to test and dose Alk/Ca/Mg, Phosphate and Nitrate, and keeping the phosphate levels around 0.1, the corals have been doing great. I have a bonsai acro that has been in the tank for about 6 weeks or more, and has grown nicely around the base and continues to have good colors. A red monti which didn't do anything for about 6 months has finally started growing, and looks good. All the corals look good and have been growing quickly, especially the japanese toadstool and green montipora. OK, so now I'm starting to get all different sorts of algae covering the floor and pieces of live rock. I always had little specks here and there of algea, a bubble or 2, but now its like gross looking algae, and there are different kinds. Pretty sure there is some cyanobacteria in there too. I have been changing water every 3-4 days, I will continue to do that to try to control it. I am also lightening up on the nutrient dosing since I do see phosphates at the highest that I have tested ( 0.16 ), and nitrates seem to maybe be higher than 10, which hasn't happened so much before, but I never had a problem with nitrates going to zero. They seemed to stay around 5 for the most part but haven't tested so much recently. I'm afraid to stop dosing the nutrients since the corals seemed to have liked it so much, and previously i have had problems killing corals. I feel like I'm in a pickle. Does anyone know any good into regarding this algae, should I be concerned? As we can see though the higher rocks are still clean and even though there is some algae growing on the base of the hammer, it doesn't seem to mind.
  2. Hi everybody, I am soon setting up a nano reef and i would really like to grow some macro algea in the display tank but i am worried about species that "Go Sexual" and i would rather just stay away from species that " Go Sexual ". So if anybody knows any species that do not " Go Sexual " then please let me know. Thanks
  3. Hi everybody i am wanting to setup my reef with lots of macroalgea inside, However i am cautious to what species wont pollute my tank. I like Caulerpa Prolifera and i was wondering Has anybody had any problems with Caulerpa Prolifera and if so what did they do about it? Thanks Everybody 🐠

  5. So I've been doing quite a bit of research on using hydrogen peroxide and I think I'm ready to do it I've been battling green hair algae pretty heavily in my main display tank for a while now it's killed off all my smaller frags and my large colonies are starting to struggle. I feel like I've been out of point where I can't add anything new to the tank for a couple months now. I was going to use food-grade but I can't find any local source and and I see people have success with the standard 3% available. From what I gather I should start with one milliliter per 10 gallon but that really doesn't seem a lot especially with the amount of tank that I need to do. I can remove my rocks if necessary but I would really like to not do that method, mostly to not having a proper place to store the rock while doing the treatment. The store is also going to be another source of before and after so Brandon can add to his ever-growing collection of success hopefully. First let's list what I've done for the past 6 Plus months: Manual removal and scrubbing with a firm brush and toothbrush. Reducing feeding to bare minimum for livestock, which they hated as they are super spoiled. I run both carbon and gfo. Set up an install a sump and refugium. Been up and running successfully for about 4 months now Deep clean my sand bed Recently treated fluconazole, this was a double whammy as a fish purchased had a fungal infection. Some GHA got a little white but no effects that was measurable beyond that. Sadly the fish did not make it. Many many hours of tank husbandry and maintenance. Reduce lighting schedule and intensity. Sweat and Tears, though I think that's just raising the salinity... So now my goal and treatment going forward assuming I'm correct is: Kill pumps and Flow Manually remove as much as I can from area without water change. Target one section of rock with algae a day with 5ml, 45g tank+sump Maintain normal water change schedule, 15g once a week. Does this sound right guys, guru @brandon429 ? I do have an RODI system and I can make SW at home if I have to do a water change after each dose. Edit: Photos added, this is what it looks like 3 weeks after a deep scrub.

    120L DIY Scalion's tank

Hello everyone, my name is Nicolas Marion, i'm from Montréal. So sorry if my english might sound off sometime I decide to use nano-reef.com has main platform to put the history of my tank, i realy enjoy the community here and the website. Background : I had a salt aquarium 12 years ago, i enjoy it, spend too much but boy i learn some lesson ! The reason i stop back then it was because of the heat and i couldn't control the heat correctly (Metal Halide) without spending huge amount of money for a chiller, i felt so guilty to lose fish/coral and i decide to stop. So life goes on, and recently i started back with aquarium, fresh water, i love it, plants, green, is my stuff, i felt like i didn't have anymore challenge and it was time go back with salt water. I read a lot before starting and i finaly decide my plans. I will use this first message with current update of the aquarium. I just bought my first coral couple hour ago, but i didn't do the aquascape wich for me is a very big deal, i think i need some help to figure out the best visual scape possible visible through 3 side. Also my real light will come tommorow (AI Prime HD), for now i use time to time my Kessil 360 WE Tuna sun from my freshwater.
