Help with tank cycle not starting

Should I try to siphon the diatoms off of the sand ? And should I clean off rocks or glass?

Now on to the next “problem”.. What should I do about all the green algae growing on the rocks? Should I get a CUC? Anything else I can do?

Help with tank cycle not starting

Sorry, I’ve been busy with work and what not but I added fish(2 ocellarus clowns) 10 days ago and all is going well, they seem healthy and happy! Thank you all for the helpful advice and I’m sure my fish thank you too!

yeah , last time I was at my lfs, I was eyeing up the live rock. If I get a couple pounds, can I just add it straight to the aquarium? Will it start another cycle?

Thanks for the help all! I just tested my water and I’m reading 0 ppm nitrite and ammonia finally! Just nitrate is reading.

Help with tank cycle not starting

Alright sounds good, I am dying put stuff into the tank. Is it normal that I have no algae growing in my tank? It’s been running for 6-7 weeks now, but I am fishless so I assumed that means less or no food for algae to grow.

So do you guys think I should do a 100% change when I read 0 ammonia + nitrite?

I have the equipment to do a 100% water change after the cycle but I’ve never seen that from what I have researched, won’t that remove some of the good bacteria or is it all on the rocks/sand?

Help with tank cycle not starting

Been a few days since I posted but I did the 25% water change about a week ago and it didn’t seem like it did anything but good news !!! Today my readings are 0 ammonia, .50-1 ppm. Nitrite (finally lowered down), and 20-40 ppm nitrate. It looks to me like my cycle is finally coming to a close. Thank you all for the reassurance and advice!

Been a little over 24 hours since the change and tested nitrite, still very high, do I need to do a large water change?

Did a 25% water change this morning, hopefully that lowers the nitrite a little. It’s killing me looking at my empty tank lol

I did do it at 1/4 as well and it seemed the same, I’m going to wait another day and test and then maybe PWC.

If that’s your diluting theory is true, wouldn’t that mean that my nitrite is closer to 20 ppm.?

I even did the test diluted just now with about a third of aquarium water and two thirds distilled water. Results here: Edit: diluted even further to 1/4 aquarium water and results are same/barely noticeable
