This is a log for my fluval spec 3 pico. Its an old tank, originally bought for BC29 QT tank. But since I have resident 3 fishes in by BC29 for almost a year, later it started housing some of my softie/zoa frags. I ran the tank with stock gears, weekly 90%WC, lighting backed by a time. Later it was upgraded use ABI 12W, LED bulb (tuna blue) and a Aqua Clear 20 HOB filter, heater.. all controlled by raspberry pi. This tank was never meant for a display tank. Things changed couple of months earlier. During christmas, I was able to finish the PWM and few other things in controller. That allows me to control kessil lights now. And I really love the Kessil A80 on my other pico (imagitarium 3.7). I decided to clean up the tank, fixed aquascape.. Almost a month before I started adding couple of zoas (from BC29), then couple of paly's. Today it now has its own Kessil A80 :-). Thought I'll share some images. Its an old tank, so it not really a build thread, but it a new beginning for this tank.. since it will house resident coral.. not guests :-) Setup with A80 Just the tank: Close up

Hello, This is my very first salt water tank. Thanks for having such rich content on the forum. I thoroughly enjoyed reading through a lot of folks journey. Specs: Coralife Biocube 29G Filtration: floss + chemipure elite + purigen, - bioballs ,Lighting: stock LR + Dry Rock + live sand (CaribSea) Stock pump 100w heater (aqueon pro). Im cycling the tank for past 1 week. I can see some tiny coraline and green/yellowish patches on the dry rock. Current water parameters are Ammonia: 0.25, Nitrite: 0, Nitrate: 0. I'm planning to upgrade the tank as time progress (1 koralia nano, aquatic life 115 skimmer,

Current FTS (photos taken under heavy blue, then white balance corrected using Camera+ iphone app) Zoa garden is already out of space, some of the la lakers have started to grow on the tank bottom, bubble coral has gotten humongous, When I turn off my mp10, its inflates even more.. and the mouth is clearly visible (i am assuming this is ok) happy reefing

Tank is humming along. No changes, since last update. Heres an FTS and a closeup of the nepthea during water change (images are taken under heavy blue and color corrected for temperature using Camera+ in iPhone) Nepthea happy reefing,

Tank: Imagitarim 3.7 G , from petco Equipments: - Removed stock filters. Return pump changed to Rio+90. AquaClear 30 HOB filter (runs for half day). - Lighting changed to Kessil A80. - Aqueron 20W heater. - Coralife digital thermometer. Corals: - GSP - Acan (Red) - 7 types of Zoas (5 are from my BC29) - Several SPS (monti, acro, stylo) .. Orange montipora and green digitata from BC29. - Green rico (from BC29) - 1 purple death paly. Maintenance: - Weekly 100% water change. Filtration: - BRS carbon + filter floss on HOB. Back chember has additional LR. I have a smallish hermit crab (Jack) and a snail (Metro) in it. No fish. I am thinking of adding a clown goby. Originally I didnt wanted to keep any fish, to keep the bioload low. But I am having so much pods now that zoas sometime stay close. Other than that, the tank is doing very good, I find it more gorgeous than the BC29. FTS: May 2017 February, 2017

Tank updates .. major self induced disaster. I killer three sps few days back while trying to get rid of sporadic hair algae on them. I soaked them in cold di water (didn’t realize in the beginning ). I feel so stupid in retrospect. One of the sps I lost was the only frag I had , the rest two have other frags , leptoseris some how managed to survive . I have reglued other sps frags at the same place. This was a major tank mishap in past one year, and a hard reminder of paying attention to temperature and salinity (should have been obvious in retrospect) You can notice the bleached montipora , I have dumped the acro It used to look like this 😞 Rest of the tank is doing ok. I am dealing with sporadic but persistent cyano issues on places where corals are fighting among each other , causing tissue necrosis this acro is almost a mini colony now Sps continue to grow on each other Microgoniopora has grown significantly as well, I worry it will fight with the encrusting lepto soon , it will be interesting to see who wins Other corals at th bottom of the tank , cyano and gha issue is present , but under control Back of the tank , green and orange capricornis, gsp on the wall and the green pociliopora that grows in any condition 🙂 thats all for now, happy Sunday

Tank is doing ok. Zoa stalks have receded in length slowly , since day ramped up light intensity . Fts have glued an orange digitata frag to check if it can grow . Grandis is coming back in full force, I guess it’s time to frag them again

Tank is doing alright. The only recent development is the nuclear green play was taken over by another play :-(. I am pruning other corals to avoid them sticking to glass. I have also glued a frag of orange digitata to see if I can grow little harder sps. I am skeptical though , since light intensity is fairly low in this tank fts Paly The other paly that took over nuclear greens Purple capricornis , limpet shells on it

    Another Chemipure Dilema

zoas can stay closed due to other reason also, like high flow or some pest etc. Not saying that the saltwater change has no effect.. just that there might be some other issues as well
  20. Hello hive minds , we are trying to use nano box 3.1 arrays with our diy controllers . I am planning to use a 3.1 array and the diy driver board , which uses led-h drivers . I can generate 5v pwm (using pca9685 ic) from our diy controller (reef-pi) . I think this should be fine, i.e. I can connect 5 channels of 5v pwm each to the pwm output pin of diy driver board( from nano box ), but I could not find any documentation on this, hence this post . i am planning to use the recommended power adapter from nano box as well.

Current fts Under blue Sps continue to grow , Macros At the bottom , blue tubs have grown in number of heads Cyphastrea is encrusting slowly Jack o lantern is finally started to encrust on the rock. This is supposed to be an easy to keep coral, so I am assuming.. probably it’s not getting enough light . There’s also cyano issue in this rock Trachy ... i think the red color for some reason pops more in the photo than in reality the other rock at the bottom is zoa Garden .... kinda Under blue Normal light The orange lepto is turning into green and yellow lepto under high light , the same coral in darker areas remained in its original color , which is orange Macro of Hammer That’s all for now, happy reefing

Current fts... kinda Rasta sunny d , growth has stalled Vamp in a drag This is the second sps in this tank , a garf bonsaai frag , in a rock with blue clove polyp , sorry for the bad image i am keeping this and a green slimer frag as a test to check if I can grow sps in this tank . They are not growing , but also not receding. I am thinking of starting reef roid and hob filter again , but before that I have to frag the grandis again

Current fts lights were off before the photo shoot, hence gsp is all closed up Grandis growing strong , even after all the nipping the sexy shrimp do Web of brittle star legs this freckled green play has become quiet a show piece The other green paly thats all for now. Happy reef keeping everyone 🙂
  24. You have already chosen the best one. Tunze is good too, just bit bulky, and has mechanical components. I would reommend smart ATO micro over tunze. There are also few rare but well documented failures of tunze

Yes. I would say make strong flow, strong light, stable water chemistry (alk, ph, calcium). You dont have to dose if you are doing frequent water changes, but it all depends upon your coral intake, and that will only be clear after you do some tests periodically
