  1. Anybody recognize this skimmer?

Yeah, that is definitely what it is! Thx man!
  2. I picked this skimmer up the other night and was wondering if anyone recognized the model or manufacturer.
  3. I've been looking for a discussion about how reefers are setting up their retro fits to no avail. So, I will start one. I installed my kit in January this year and so far I really like it. I'm not in love with it though. I am still trying to finess my tempature to my liking. let me start with my set-up. I went with 8 clear whites, 4 natural whites, 8 royal blues, and 4 blues. I have all my blues on one driver and the whites on the other. The blues are set at 900 mA and the whites I just lowered to 900 mA as well. I had my whites at 1300 mA but I think the kelvin was to low. I like how the colors pop with them both running at 900 mA. Running my drivers, I use the Rapid LED DDC-01 PWM daylight controller currently set at 60% intensity. Here are some pics of my cube. Lights set at 60% intensity. Picture doesn't do much justice for the actual colors. Here is a better picture of the color my green birdsnest has. I wish I could get brighter color out of it. I am currently adding omega-3 to my tank to try to get more color. This is a picture of the two LED moonlight kit from Rapid LED.
  4. Why is my KH lower?

Thanks Mcarroll, that makes perfect sence. I did not know that about alk. As for the two part, I think I have in my mind that the two part was to be administered in equal doses. Are you saying that I should be dosing based on the needs of each individual parameter? I do use reef crystals and do a 5 gallon w/c each week. On my BC29 thats >20%. My spread sheet didn't transfer well into the forum so I made a Jpeg of it. You can get a better understanding how I monitor my tank. Jfarabaugh - I use API test kits far all except Mag, I use Salefert for that one. This is my spread sheet I use. I monitor the time I do the tests as well as att the other parameters you would expect.
  5. Why is my KH lower?

I tested my water today and everything is where it normally is, except my KH. it is down to 6. My Calc seems to be pretty stable. I don't dose, but I have some B-Ionic 2 part. Should I dose just the alkilinity to raise it? One question I have is, I just added some new SPS and LPS corals on 2-10-12, if I lowered the lights (I have a BC29 with Rapid LED retro fit) to aclimate my new corals, would that have an effect on my perameters i.e. lower calc? One more thing, I don't dose magnesium, but it is always up near 1500. I use reef crystals. Is that normal mag levels for RCs? Here is my spread sheet for the last few months. Date Temp Salinity Time PH Magne. Calc KH Phos Nitrate 1/16/12 78° 1.025 2100 8.2 x 440 ppm 7 x x 1/21/12 5 gallon water change. 1/28/12 5 gallon water change. Set the day light intensity to 75%. 1/31/12 78° 1.025 1430 8.2 1470 ppm 420 ppm 8 0 ppm 0 ppm 2/8/12 5 gallon water change. 2/10/12 5 gallon water change. 2/10/12 5 gallon water change. Added new corals, (Pink birds nest, candycane, eagle eyes zoas, orange monty, orange ricodea) lowered the lights to 10%. 2/15/12 5 gallon water change. Raised the lights to 25%. 2/18/12 Raised the lights to 50%. 78° 1.025 1715 8.2 1470 ppm 460 ppm 9 0 ppm 0 ppm 2/21/12 5 gallon water change. Raised the lights to 60%. 2/29/12 5 gallon water change. 3/8/12 5 gallon water change. 3/15/12 78° 1.025 1516 8.2 1500 ppm 460 ppm 6 0 ppm x This Picture is taken on 3-10-12.
  6. JBJ ATO and BC29

Do any of you find running filter floss in chamber two influences the level of water in chamber three? I notice in my BC29, if my floss goes a couple of days my water will lower in chamber three. My concern is if this can cause my water to lower, the ATO will kick in and ultimately lower my salinity.
  7. To dose on not to dose?

    Shoot... Thanks anyway.
  8. To dose on not to dose?

I placed my order today B-Ionic 2 part, 160G IORC, salifert magnesium test kit and Kent tech-m magnesium. I went with tech-m cause I hear that is the best bet for battling the gelidium. Bocalvan, Thanks for all your quick responses. I valued your opinion
  9. To dose on not to dose?

Do you have any experience with C-balance from two little fish?
  10. To dose on not to dose?

I do have LPS's - frog spawn w/ 10 - 15 heads, hammer w/ 10-15 heads, leather coral, ~30 polyps and shrooms. They seem happy to me, but they shrink at night. I think that is normal though. I only asked cause I am placing an order for IORC, tech-m and mag test kits. (I need to do some experimenting outside of my display tank to deal with some gelidium.)
  11. To dose on not to dose?

I am looking to see if I should be dosing my tank with a two part additive. As of now, I have only been doing weekly water changes. My Alk is ~ 8dKH and my calcium is ~ 420 - 440ppm. I use API test kits for both. My tank has been stable at those levels since May to present.( My tank was set up in January '11) Will I benefit from a two part additive, or should I keep with the weekly water changes?
  12. How much alk/cal should I dose?

  13. The Biocube Resource Guide

As far I know from this thread it does. Its one I am considering, the other being the RIO hf6.
  14. The Biocube Resource Guide

I am looking to order a Koralia water pump. Is anyone using the 750 on a BC29? Or is that too much water flow? Should I stick with the nano 425?
  15. The Biocube Resource Guide

Thanks uwwmatt! I love your resource guide and your passion to help out beginners. I share your opinion on swing arms. I too have used them for SW tanks in the past. This is my first tank I plan on keeping corals in and didn't want to skimp on my setup cost. I would prefer to get the essentials right away and then as time goes by, add corals etc... My next step is to build the stand (hopefully the new one is not defected) and get it cycling. Then add a nice custom crew from reef cleaners. Pictures to come in the future. I plan on using a deli srimp to start the cycle. How long should I keep it in the tank?
