  1. I know this thread is kinda old but I haven't logged onto nano-reef for a few years, so please don't mind me bringing this thread back from the dead. Some might find it interesting, so I will explain the story of "Eagle Eyes". 5 years ago like all you guys, I had the reef addiction and traded locally with a guy named "Salt Creep" from Reef Central for a small colony of 20 zoanthids with orange polyps, green skirts, and black centers. The colony grew to about 150 and I fragged half of it onto tiny rubble. Each with 3-4 polyps. Back then the only polyps with names were pretty much PPE's and Orange Crush. Of course being the salesman I was, I thought they looked like "Eagle Eyes" so thats the name that they were originally sold under. I sold them here on NR for $25 priority shipped, this is when NR they were far less strict about bulk sales from non-vendor members. (I'm not saying every eagle eye in existence today was from this original strain, only explaining a little about the name. In fact years later I used to buy and sell zoanthids wholesale here in LA that were imported eagle eye colonies.) I find it really funny how out of control non-scientific coral zoanthid naming has become. The name "Whammin Watermelon" gives me a good laugh. I'm really surprised NR let me post, because last time I tried logging in years ago I was banned for selling "Frag Packs" of zoanthids. Which is why I started my own small business FragPack.com (no longer exists) On another off-topic observation I can't believe nano-reef is still hosting my tank thread's original picture, and somebody is still hosting my banner.
  2. Modding the Nano Wave 9

I can't believe after all that work in modding the hood and filtration your going with a sump! I'm really intested in your tank setup as I have just bought a nanowave and have yet to fill it yet. I have a bunch of questions regarding your mods. You mentioned that the Maxi-Jet 600 with 1200 impeller was to powerful for the system and the filtration stages were backing up, was this with or without the Hydor Flow? Were you experiening microbubbles returning to the tank from the skimmer? Does the Hydor flow shoot water at the light housing as it spins around? I've never owned one but it looks like the return is to high to the water edge for a spinning head of water. Do you feel widening or making the waterway grills wider would allow water to pass easier through the filtration stages? Even though you tore off the filration if you were to do it again what gallons/hour do you thing is perfect with a Hydor flow limiting the pump? And without the Hydor flow. Basicly I'm asking because I haven't bought an upgrade return pump yet for my nanowave and am considering what options I have for the fastest, yet still efficient flow with no extra powerheads in the tank. Thanks for answering my questions in advance. I'm really excited about this new tank!

I'm really intested in your tank setup as I have just bought a nanowave and have yet to fill it yet. I have a bunch of questions regarding your mods. 1. You mentioned that the Aquaclear 30 powerhead was to powerful for the system and micro bubbles were being shot into the tank. Is this with or without the Hydor Flow? 2. Does the Hydor flow shoot water at the light housing as it spins around? I've never owned one but it looks like the return is to high to the water edge for a spinning head of water. 3. Are there issues with waterflow making its way though the filtration with the Aquaclear 30? Do you feel widening or making the waterway grills wider would allow water to? 4. Now that you removed the Aquaclear 30 and are back to the stock pump, what gallons/hour do you thing is perfect with a Hydor flow limiting the pump? And without the Hydor flow. Thanks for answering my questions in advance. I'm really excited about this new tank!

Can you post some dimensions or diagrams of the overflow box you made?

  14. Zephyr's 3.5 TruVu Journal

Sounds like your off to a good start. How do you plan on cooling your tank with the halide running? You shouldn't have airflow directly on the halide or else its color spectrum runs much more yellow than it should, also shortening the bulbs life. Do you have a UV glas shield mounted between bulb and water? What brand ballast are you running. How the heck are you fitting a 36w PC under that thing, the biggest that can fit is a 13w.
  15. Sorry coralbuff but the tank is now officially SOLD. Thanks for your interest everybody.
