Sally Lightfoot a.k.a. Nimble Spray Crab

As am I....but I also like to see good information given, and not BS like I hear at some LFS, that always seems to recommend putting in a SLF Crab in every aquarium (including reefs)...I was simply wondering how long she may have had the crab and possibily hadn't seen any of the bad effects as the crab grows older.....sorry if this OFFENDED you....but I like to see $0.02 that is worth it....and it was hard for me to read "give something a chance" after the poster already stated that the SLF got (1) fish....um..how many chances do you get....well I leave that decision up to you, how many fish/corals/inverts your willing to give up for a SLF....and it does matter, cause alot of people who have this same question, that will not post it, are looking for good answers and might use this as a resource. but this is just my $0.02.......

If you say so....you are the first that I have heard of that has any good luck with a SLF.....was your SLF young??? cause they will be ok at first if they are still young, but once the start growing...watch out. Trust me, I watched him eat my coral and go after my fish all the time... You say give it a chance, he already got one of his fish.

    Emerald Crab kills skunk shrimp.

how can you say they are 100% reef safe when you posted this thread and said it killed your skunk.... I agree, i'd stay away from crabs in the reef as much as possible.

    Bare Bottom Nano

I don't care for the look of the bare-bottoms..but I can tell you this: I have a 12G NC-QT that I keep BB due to the fact it is a quarantine... I try to keep up with it, keeping the glass clean, using turkey baster blasts, and siphoning out debris when I do water changes, sponge cleaning algae off the bottom glass etc, but it still doesn't keep the glass on the bottom nice looking (except maybe a day or two). I wouldn't want any of my display tanks to look like this and wouldn't recommend it to you... I'd go with a sand bed bottom.

Whats up Vike, How long have you had your 24G-NG, you stated that you are almost done cycling but have already added a clean-up crew and a fish... I would take the SLF out if you plan on keeping any corals, small inverts, and/or small fish.. Everyone seems to think that these are cool in a reef but if you do any research on them from real books (not on-line stores) then everything says NOT REEF SAFE. Even if you did feed them enough, if they get to liking the taste of your coral they will keep coming back for more. Just don’t see the point in have a $10-20 crab eat my $50-$100 corals. Trust me I had one, and it got a taste of my Fox Coral and everyday he would eat away a lil bit more, until I realized that I wouldn't be able to catch him (60G) without removing ~1/2 of my LR...so it was redecorating time for my aquarium....trust me, this was the beginning stages of my reefing life, every since then I do alot of research on anything I buy before it comes anywhere close to my aquariums...on a 2nd note the damsel...you stated domino, not that it matters...I would stay away from the damsels (except the clown fish or chromes) cause these guys can get real aggressive and cause problems with your other fish....just my $0.02. Later.
  7. Looks like the female got the bigger one.... (Usually the Female is the larger fish and it looks like the bigger fish on the right).
  8. That is awesome...now each clown has its own....not like mine who host a Flowerpot Coral together and fight eachother out of it when they feel crowded...

    Nano Chillers...

Mike, I heard a while ago from a friend who works with JBJ (he tests all their new equipment during production to find problems), he said that while in production they were trying to do a in-line system for the Nano-Cubes so that you wouldn't have to run a separate pump for the chiller, it would be in-line with the return pump (sounds great, but bad for flow)...I'm not sure if they scratched this idea or not but the kit was going to be setup for this type of system...not to say you couldn’t run this chiller many different ways....just thought I would share this lil bit of info... ps..I haven't talked with him lately in regards to these new chillers, but I know he does have some inside info and I will see what I can find out..He got me their new Viper lights about 1-2 weeks before they even came out.

    Gigapixels?

Check out this camera this guy designed a 1250-megapixel Camera.. I heard something about the camera being from a US Spy Plane, using special glass, and a tripod from a nuclear power plant..... Thought maybe you guys would be interested. Giga-Pixel Home Page NOTE: edited only to give a clicky link

    bubbles all over substrate, diatoms?

Well I know this is easier said then done but..don't panic... It seems that every aquarium gets a break-out of the cyano at some point... At least your tank is not that old and you should have pretty good luck getting ride of it...I've heard of the outbreaks on fully stocked aquariums (a big die-off, etc) that either almost or did take down the system cause it got out of control. Only problem is there is so much controversy on the best ways to remove (everybody’s fix is someone else's no-no). Just keep in mind if it is cyano.....cyano = bacteria not algae.

    bubbles all over substrate, diatoms?

r u sure it isn't cyano???...you might want to look into this You mentioned brown/red with bubbles....that sounds like cyano. Check out SH's thread about cyano....good info. http://www.nano-reef.com/forums/index.php?...topic=59205&hl=

    Tank Advise

I don't care for the look of the bare-bottoms (except girlz)..but I can tell you this: I have a 12G NC-QT that I keep BB due to the fact it is a quarantine... I try to keep up with it, keeping the glass clean, using turkey baster blasts, and siphoning out debris when I do water changes, but it still doesn't keep the glass on the bottom nice looking (except maybe a day or two). I wouldn't want any of my display tanks to look like this and wouldn't recommend it to you... go with an average sand bed (not to deep, cause then you will harvest unwanted inhabitants if you don't keep it really clean)...if you go with the 12G I'd maybe use around 1/2-3/4 of a 20lb bag of Live Sand, which should be fine IMO.
