  1. HELP!!! Xenia death

well this xenia is definatly dead! I took it out, and i nearly vomitted on the spot cuz it smelled so bad. But i think i may have identified the problem. my cousin was feedin my goby over the weekend, and she used "tap water" to defrost the frozen food. DOH! a little detail i left out. so just that tiny amount of chlorine and disgusting college station (metal packed) water was enough to fry that xenia. so, back to square one..cuz this water is full ammonia. smells wonderful
  2. HELP!!! Xenia death

more info: Ive got a watchman goby in there as well. A bunch of LR and LS. Ive got a refugium with macroalgae and LR. Ive also got a massive skimmer but its no functioning as a skimmer now, more like a aerator! The tank has about 18watts from a compact. I just dont know what could have fried this xenia so quickly! And it literally looks like its been fried! Looks even kinda black on some ends.
  3. HELP!!! Xenia death

I put a xenia in this 5 gal nano ive got. The tank has been running for about a month, and im getting zeros acorss the board on all my tests. last night i put this xenia in, and when i awoke the senia had shriveled up and turned green. All the tentacles are gone, and is obviously going to die. WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED????
  4. bioballs

thanks everyone for the "positive" feedback
  5. bioballs

what are u talking about? Thats the first time ive asked! Chill
  6. bioballs

Are bioballs a nitrate factory? Should i even bother with them?
  7. fuge substrate

some guy used red sea flora flourish...but its meant for freshwater...apparently it exploded in algae, and bred alot of copepods. Should i use just some regualr sand?
  8. fuge substrate

Iam gonna make a fuge that is half and half....i used a 5 gal bucket with it being seperated in the middle. One side is bioballs and the other would contain macroalgae. Do i need to put in a substrate for the macro side? Is it necessary for other algae to grow??

  10. Bioload

Even with heavy filtration/skimming you cant up the bioload? And also using a 5 gal bucket full of macroalgae...i figured my only problem would be the proximty of the fish together
  11. Bioload

    well thats dissapointing
  12. Bioload

are you saying there are about 200, 300 sifferent kinds of snails and hermits to put in there....i didnt think there were that many. So i guess nanos that small are mainly reef type tanks, and arent made for fish? Could i put like one clown in there and a goby? What type of goby would be good? I heard a suggestion about neons. Where can i find them beside the sucky LFS?
  13. Bioload

How much stuff can you put in a 5 gal nano? ive already got 3 snails, 2 hermits.
  14. kent micro-vert

Ive been using kent for a while now, and it seems to work great in our 40 gal. the clam, xenias, mushrooms, all seem to enjoy it. however we have to turn the skimmer off for a while becasue it will skimm it out. The guy at the LFS uses that too and hes got aquariums out the wahzoo. He says it works fine.
  15. macroalgae lighting

How much lighting would i have to have for a 2.5 gal sump containg only macroalgae? I just divided a bucket in half and one side is bio balls and the other would be macro. Would this setup work? Its gonna flow back into a 5 gal nano, with LR and LS.
