Is that the standard hood? Isn't the wattage output on the standard hoods too low?

You can put a 20watt coralife bulb in the hood. And thats what he did.

Thanks for the comments The algae is actually grape caulerpa, no problems with it yet with a 10 hour photoperiod however it turns somewhat pale overnight so maybe it is a timebomb? The coralife 20 watt actually screws into the available socket in the 2.5 lots of people have done it or similar.
