Plate coral in distress

I am trying to save this guy but, I need to identify two items.

1. Look at item 1 on the picture. Is this his mouth?

There are tentacles that go in and out of it and the opening closes from time to time.

2. Look at item 2 on the picture. Can you identify what this is? It looks like some sort of absess.

I thought the mouth was in the center of the coral, true?

1. this is a barnacle, leave it be for the time being... the mouth is at the center next to #2.

2. I have no idea what a absess is so I have no idea what you're talking about. I would suggest just putting the coral in medium flow and light area and leave him be. don't even feed it in my opinion

Put him in good light, dose calcium to help him. And in my oppinion try feeding his mouth a piece of FREEZE DRIED not frozen krill. He will gobble it up and he will get big. Try feeding him like once a week

when distressed these guys will form little clones called anthocauli.. you might be seeing the production of mini plates that will eventually detatch and become free living individual clones of the original. why stress on freeze dried?
