Sissy Posted May 30, 2005 The furry things on his shell are a hitchiker. Maybe he found his current shell in some well cured live rock and the shell was growing goodies too. I think it is a type of sponge. . .I had something similar on LR in my old tank. Quote Link to comment

genuck Posted May 31, 2005 thanks for the ideas, the growths are hard and don't seem to grow much. one spot had some new growth and the hard part inside was white with the maroon hair. hmmm... Quote Link to comment
diatom Posted July 12, 2005 The growth is diatomal blooms, phytoplanktonic colonial cyanobacteria, and they are also autotriphic ie. they photosynthesise in the presence of chloroplasts and form part of your gram positive base, they are a good thing to have! Quote Link to comment
