Nano with Regal Tang

MAQUARIUM
 Share

This is my 5gal nano-reef. There I have a feather duster, one anemone, one three stripes damsel, one clown fish and one 6 month old nano reef grown regal tang (1 ½ in). I have waited 6 month to put this post and the regal tang hasn’t grown any more. So if you are one that says that you can’t put a regal tang in a nano reef, you're wrong...

Many well known aquaists don't recommend this, not just b/c of water quailty, and etc. It can also lead to serious problems aggression. If you take the time to learn and research you would known about some reef fish defend and protect large amounts of terriorty. Also I don't believe in keeping sea annemoles in small nano-reefs, due to the size they obtain, and waste it can produce as it grows. If your not going to take the time to setup and research, find another hobby. I don't mean to sound like an a**hole, but if your not going to due it right, then don't do it at all.

It's not that it is physically impossible to put that tang in your tank... It is definately possible, but it will die. Those tangs can grow to over 1 foot in length... Just because it hasn't grown in the past 6 mos. doesn't mean that it won't ever get bigger. There is a reason that people get pissed when people do this... just because you can do it doesn't mean that you should. Do your research so that you can provide your fish with the care necessary to give them a decent life. Disappointing.

It's physically possible, but you shouldn't do it. Tangs need a lot of space to swim.

I would think it was a cool nano if it just had the clown and the feather duster. Is that live rock or just decorative dry rock from a LFS bin? Is the anemone still alive roughly a month after this picture was taken?

It's possible to keep a human alive for years in a closet also, no problem. Would you like to live in a closet though? Bring the tang back to the store or get a WAY bigger tank for it if you care 1 bit about animals.

All i hav to say is that regal tangs in the wild grow to over 1&1/2 feet, what happens when this fish is put in such a small tank, is its life span greatly decreses, so from a fish that can live to be from about 10 - 20yrs, that tang will only live about 1 or 2 if ur lucky, no offence, but dats a bit cruel! jokes ur perogative (like the pun @ brittney).

BTW, too all you people who are saying, to "take the tang out, it will get 1 1/2 ft long" i agree, but you catch more flies with honey than vinager, so, be gentle and edgucate(sp?) the poor guy, dont scare him off.

Dude, I just converted to a salt tank and after doing research isn't it supposed to be 1 inch of fish for every 2 gallons??? This pretty much means you can only have 1 fish in a five gallon nano not all that shiat you have.
