Reddish orange one is a Helm’s Deep paly from Unique Corals. Was a single head back in early April! Green and Orange one was a random LFS pickup.

Helms Deep  = Gobstopper if you ask me :-)

Still, one of my favorite Zoas of all time. When happy (like the pic) they grow very large but are also well behaved. They grow in tight, ball like clusters, but don't sting other corals or engage in chemical warfare. They will however crowd out less aggressive species, and the cluster to the right is likely to meet this fate.

I had a single head grow into a grapefruit sized ball in less than a year once. I actually got sick of fragging them. Along with Sunny D's they are perhaps the biggest, prettiest, and fastest growing of any zoanthid / paly. With their large mass they also are a good nutrient sink.

All these names for corals are kinda ridiculous, but you got to call them something I guess!

Good info, thanks. The green ones to the south have been growing, but the Helm’s are outpacing them for sure and are almost on their rock. Whatever happens happens.

I am worried about a Styloconiella I have north of the palys. Think they’ll grow around my stylo or will they smother him?
