my pair of leos, they breed for me every year and I hatch the babies and sell them. If a nice one hatches I'll keep it to breed it.

I've never keeped retiles before, how much did they cost you?

I am thinking about getting a pair of gekos, or maybe a Bearded(sp?) Dragon.

The female was like $80 (one on the left) I got her when I was 8 from petsmart, do the right thing and get one from a breeder or at a reptile show. The male i got at the GTA herp expo for 75$. The female has "regular" colour patterns for leopard geckos and the male is a specific colour morph (i forget the name and I don't have my ID book here). Geckos are soo cool almost cooler then my reef.

From your pic it looks like the male might be a hypo tangerine...but its hard to tell. I own leos myself that I am breeding. They are some of the easiest reptiles to keep and breed...but also are adorable and have great personalities!...and are VERY addicting... I recommend them to anyone who wants an easy reptile...but is ready for a commitment (they can live up to 20 years...) and the responsibility (they may be easy...but they still need care!).

Do these little gecko's bite or are they pretty safe to handle? They look really nice and cute.

Nice and cute :) Some will bite...but generally not hard enough to hurt...my little 5 year old neighbor got himself bit trying to get one of mine to open its mouth and said it didn't hurt...lol Mostly they don't bite at all though. They also tolerate handling extremely well...much more so than most reptiles do! I will say however, like Dan, that you should only get them from breeders...the leos at the big chain petstores come from EXTREMELY inbred lines, and even if treated well by the petstore can be unhealthy...especially hatchlings.

Oh Dan, quick question...what substrate do you keep your babies on?...if its sand, please stop putting the babies on it!...they can become impacted very easily and if they do they will likely die...adults can become impacted as well, but it is less common. I personally like to use tile as a substrate, it looks good and is more natural for them.

It's quilted towel =D. I've been keeping my adults on sand for 7 years and have had no problems, i feel dont mess with success =D

changing from sand wouldn't be messing with success...it would eliminating risk. It isn't incredibly risky for adults...but there is still a very real risk of adult leos getting impacted on sand...especially if they are fed things like crickets where they may ingest a large amount of it. I'm not gonna bash you for using it...I just dont' recommend it...definitely don't keep any babies or juvies on it though... :)

Yea, back when I had my first leo it was considered the norm to house them on sand. I guess I should just update soon. I am thinking of upgrading their tank and making it a desert vivarium. I was thinking a 40g br and buying some base rock or lace rock and using a substrate of slate slabs with some fine sand to fill in the cracks. I forgot to mention I feed my leos in a seperate tank that is solely used for feeding. Its just a 10g with paper towel. I think more people should do this, I've found it to work well. It also makes the animals more tame and mine seem to want to get handled cause they know they will get food. I'd never put a baby leo on sand, cause the babies just kind of dive mouth open at their prey. Do you have any experience with any other gecko species?

"espically if they are fed things like crickets"

I thought all these guys eat are crickets...please let me know because if they eat something else too i can tell my cousin. She feeds hers nothing but crickets. She had one before that and it only lasted 2 years because he choked on a cricket.. go figure. She had a green iguana that choked on half a peeled grape too.

Lol, you can find these a lot easier in the states then up here. Check the internet to see if there are any reptile shows or reptile specialty shops in your area. You can feed leos: crickets, mealworms, wax worms, super worms, silk worms, earthworms (some eat these, some don't), grasshoppers, and soft shelled beetles.
