darncoyotes Posted December 21, 2012 I actually tried an experiment with this tank; the lighting is a 2 (bright)l.e.d. strip I bought at Lowes for $15 bucks. It's meant for under cabinet lighting/work lighting. I read a forum somewhere else where someone asked if those units would work, and I decided to test one. I've had decent growth/reproduction of multiple soft corals. I recently did add a 13 watt CFL, Feit Electric "Black Light" party bulb (also from Lowes or Home Depot), which is actually "black light blue" and pretty much an actinic bulb. The "black" bulb is in a Architects lamp positioned over the tank, ( I like the look with my home decor,)and was added to balance out the manufacturers intentional "incandescent yellow" of the LEDs. The room of the tank is moderately bright, but everything has worked pretty well. Quote Link to comment
GHill762 Posted December 21, 2012 looks browned out to me... and I think the white encrusted coral looks like star polyps of some sort that have lost all color.. Quote Link to comment
darncoyotes Posted December 21, 2012 Again lighting experiment, not necessarily meant for cosmetic appearances. Growth has been good, no color deviation in any of the corals from when they were obtained. All of the corals were given to me by a local grower for the experiment, all were/are bland colored to begin with... Not convinced on the star polyp I.D., haven't seen any that resemble the polyps on that guy. Quote Link to comment
GHill762 Posted December 22, 2012 Really? Looks just like star polyps to me... other than being white.. you should post a thread about your experiment in lighting.. I think a lot of people would be interested in the results.. wasn't trying to be rude.. saw someone with zero post count with an underpowered setup.. assumed noob.. lol.. Quote Link to comment
