2 gallon Apothecary reef tank

I added more live rock (coral), added macroalgae, green star polyps, a Linkia Seastar, and some Pulsing Xenia over the course of 2 weeks. I was having a little problem with floating debris in the tank so I added a lifter tube for the airstone and put a bit of plastic mesh in the bottom of the tube. Its working out well. I do frequent water changes, about 25% every week or so, using distilled water.

Thanks. I had the jar just sitting on the table, empty. Then one day I thought "wouldn't it be great to have a starfish or something in that". I started researching and discovered that very small tanks are possible now, they used to say it wasn't possible. I am trying to catch up on 20 years of research as fast as possible lol. I had a saltwater tank years ago, when I was a teenager, and wasn't very successful because I had no patience and information on the subject was very sparse at the time, all I had was my local small-town library. It has only been a month, but it is doing extremely well. Time will tell if it is going to work or not.

^ that. The star won't have enough food. Sorry.

Also, I'd remove the clown too. I saw you had one in the other picture. That's not a good idea for a tank like this.

I hate to rain on your parade <not possible> because I understand how awesome starfish are and it has always been an aspiration of mine to keep one. But you should do some research on the care of that linkia <Believe me I have thoroughly researched it>, the majority of starfish are not well suited to reef tanks due to the fact they feed off of microfauna that most tanks cannot support<and other organic detritis, of which I have plenty as the tank has very little mechanical filtration>. He may survive for awhile but not in the long term <we shall see>. Also, chemical swings will be very unstable due to the low water volume, which invertebrates (particularly linkia starfish) are VERY sensitive to <very true, I have been checking my parameters twice a day and I do a 25% water change about once a week>.

The clownfish was just going to be there for a couple of weeks, until my bigger tank gets going. At any rate he is no longer an issue.

I thought this was the Pico forum, lol. I will Castiel

I am open to suggestions on the species of fish to get (and everything else for that matter). Looking like seahorses would be a good option. I wonder if Bumblebee Gobys would do well in 1.024 salinity? I somehow doubt it.

To the guy who posted about raining on my parade: What is the best choice regarding a starfish? (in case this one starts to decline and I have to take it back)

no, asterina is really your only option

Id take this convo to the pico forum for more/better answers

Yes, the asterina hitch-hikers are doing very well indeed, there are at least 5. I would like to find a mini brittle star. Yes, I will move the convo
